  1. hi fellas,

is it just me or my shock absorbers (or something else) are starting to fail... :(

the ride and the handling are not as good as before...roads feel bumpier and there's too much body roll

    (i think)

    tyres look ok

tyre pressure is OK (front 36 psi rear 32 psi)

any thoughts / comments would be appreciated :)

  2. hi everyone,

just wanna know what you think about the future of petrol cars particularly since we all know that petrol prices are not getting lower and petrol engines are polluting the air that we're inhaling

and now we hear everywhere how companies/governments are already developing alternative fuels and engines/technologies so that they will no longer be dependant on oil

i mean, what will happen to our petrol cars (market value) when that day comes? and how much longer you think it is?

  3. i wouldve refused a repair.

if they sent you back in a cab that means something major has been damaged. even replacing or repairing it wont return it to its original integrity.

dont get t-boned on that side again.

    hi terry,

how's your camry since the repair.... :)

  4. Hi fellas :)

I just had mine serviced for 15K and it was $245

When I got there the guy explained that the base 15K service would cost around $210 and he also recommended the wheel alignment and the tyre rotation for $65 more. I thought about it for a few seconds and then I asked him whether they were absolutely necessary or not.

He said they were optional and offered to do a "check" to determine whether the wheel alignment/tyre rotation is necessary or not.

I thought why not check so then I said yes.

When the service's done and he presented me the invoice, it says the wheel alignment "check" cost $30

I wished he had told me that the "check" would cost me $30 :( Oh well :P

  5. hi fellow camry sportivo owners :D

i'm sure we all agree that the stock horn is not loud enough and its pitch is too high.

does anyone know where to get the louder lower-pitch horn, how much it would cost and how to install it?

mine's part number is ND-012.......i'm sure there's something else out there that's louder and got lower pitch.

    thanks for your help!

  6. i dont know if he has been charged yet, or whats happening with him...

not that id really care, thats his problem now

anyway, im with NRMA and so is he.

he admitted to NRMA that it was his fault...

so my car will get fixed under insurance either way.

im taking it to the nrma inspection place in a few minutes...so ill find out whats going to happen about getting it fixed etc...

sorry for what happened to your camry, terry

i'm sure we're all glad that nobody was hurt although you must still be in shock

    and guess what.....we're next-suburb neighbours :D

so the side airbag didn't deploy, i hope it's because there's some sort of weight sensor in the passenger seat and there's no one there at the time of the side impact, and not because it was malfunctioning in the first place?

otherwise we should start firing away questions to Toyota about this.......i'm sure NRMA would like to do the same thing

  7. nah i couldnt install it myself, if i had airpowered drill, i probably could have

the endlink bolts were on too tight for just a ratchet to remove...

so i had to get mechanic to do it :P

oh btw, the extra horn was practically plug and play, except for grounding wire, and mounting it of course ;)

im not 100% sure, but the wiring for this extra horn should be there for all the Gen5s i believe.

i see......so how much did it cost you to install the rear swaybar?

and wouldn't it affect your warranty?

about the horn, my reason for wanting to "modify" the horn is because the standard horn is a bit too high-pitched for me. adding another horn would make it louder twice as much and it would also lower the pitch, right? :)

may i know what to ask for (the horn), how much it cost you and where to get it from?

hmm.......now i'm really thinking about doing these two things :D

    thanks, mate

  8. i picked up and installed my Whiteline Rear Swaybar today :)

there is definately a difference in the way the car handles

i can feel that it reduces bodyroll and understeer really well

like i can take a corner at higher than normal speeds and it feels much more stable than before B)

got it for $169 at Autobarn (Product Code: BTR39) ;)

i'm glad it's working well for you, Terry.

did you do the installation yourself? you sound pretty mechanical

i would never be able to figure out how to install something like this. i suppose you need some sort of training.

like the time you installed, what was it, an extra horn? i would love to be able to do the same things on my camry................

  9. Hi I had some problems with my car when new.

A clunk in the front suspension which needed a tyre rod replacing or something like that, Handbrake was stuck on one wheel and the bushes were twisted on the rear suspension (this was picked up over the pits in WA when I changed plates in the state)

I think all new cars have a few niggles but as long as they fix them up that’s the main thing. The frustrating thing is that you pay for a dealer to go over the car when you buy it and don’t expect too much wrong after that.

My VW had similar problems and that was built in Germany so its not inherently a Toyota issue. :P

    As  for your fuel consumption…..

If its new it might not be warn in yet,  try some injection cleaner, mention it to Toyota at a service.

As for the tyres I have not looked at the manual or tyre placard. But the only car I know of with different tyre pressures front and rear was some 1960’s Renault, they did that so it had some form of handling. ;)

Most motoring people, car clubs and all that recommend going a little higher than stated. So maybe 2-3 PSI higher. Better cornering, safer and better fuel economy is the outcome. Slightly increased tyre wear is the downside. I would be surprised if there were different inflation recommendations front and rear.

    Hi everyone  :P

    New to this forum

    I own a 05 Camry 4cyl Sportivo as well

    About 6 month

Fuel comsumption is about 12-13L/100km......

And also fix the car about 4times as well

1st time: fix the paint quality of the body kit.....

2nd time: fix the head unit as it will goes security by itself

3rd time: fix the noise from the front

4th : fix the noise again....

    and.....

5th: fix the body kit again as it bend out  (waiting for parts now)

and probably 6th: found water in the boot  :o

And this might help: If the squeaking noice you guys having is happen when u turning (especially audible when turning and slight braking at the same time), it might be a dust ring at the crank shaft is losen and contact with the brake, I fix this noice twice  :(  hope this can help u guys solve this problem B) )

    hi PERTHCAMRY

    so my 05 camry sportivo 4cyl and whitecamry's are about the same......about 13L / 100km

if i'm understanding what you mean by "it might not be warn in yet" correctly, what you're saying is we're getting 13L / 100km because ours are still quite new. am i right?

    i'm not sure how many km whitecamry's 05 camry sportivo 4cyl got.......but mine's got about 10,000km now

in your opinion, when do you think i should be getting the "normal" fuel economy?

    thanks

  10. Hi guys,

    I have a 03 V6 Sportivo and i have also had a few problems:

    1) Squeaky noises when turning from sterring - Was fixed when i replaced the springs and the car was lowered

    2) Front driver window sealer is deformed which is goin to be fixed in near future

    3) Hand brake at one stage wouldnt work, the car just kept rolling

I also have an issue with filling my car with fuel - Every time I fill up the fuel keeps clickin as if the tank is full when its not therefore i have to hold the trigger half way which takes ages to fill up!!   Can anyone shed some light on this for us please?

Apart from that everything else is fine and my fuel economy im getting 8.5L/100km  :D

    Thanks

    G'day Perthcamry,

Springs are awesome for the money i paid went with Eibach pro kit! Money well spent.

Yeah i was very surprised as well, but because i use the cruise control 24/7 this i think helps alot and also because i only hav one pt left on my licence and therefore dont want to be flashed  :P

    hi SPORDEANO,

i'm still trying to digest this......

    you've got the V6, you're getting 8.5L / 100km

    i've got the 4cyl, i'm getting 13.5L / 100km

am i the only one who thinks it should be the other way around? <_<

and just how exactly you use cruise control 24/7?

    thanks mate

  11. There was definitely a difference in fit-and-finish when I compared my 03 Camry to a Japan-built 05 Corolla.  I can only guess that QC in Australia is lower than in Japan!

As for tyre pressures on my 4-Cyl Camry:

    Front: 40 PSI

    Rear: 35 PSI

I also notice that the window sealers on the outside are misaligned and it is common to all Gen 5/5.5 Camrys even if they are brand new at the dealerships - difficult to describe this one...  where the door panel means the window frame, there is a rubber strip that 'scrapes' against the window.  One end is always wedged opened by the external window frame.  One can only hope it does not corrode anything on the inside!

I too am getting rattles somewhere - seems to be coming from somewhere forward of the dashboard...

    hi M_LUKE

if you don't mind me asking, with 40/35psi front/rear, what sort of fuel economy are you getting?

    cheers

  12. well i cant say ive had that many problems when i got my car new....

but nevertheless, i did have some minor problems

    scratched Climate Control panel, replaced.

    missing A/C Vent labels, replaced.

rattling noise from drivers door, fixed.

also at the moment, there are some slight rattles around the radio panel, but i used my ingeniousity and blutak to fix it, or at least soften it

as for fuel consumption, all car companies say their cars will use so much petrol, and in reality they always use more...

its a marketing ploy if you ask me

and 'Silver', the rattling noise your talking about from the door, is it almost like a jingling noise when you go over bumps?

if it is, then it is a door clip loose, same problem i had, Toyota fixed that up.

so it's a door clip loose.........thanks for the info

i might ask you about tyre pressure as well, should it be the same for all 4 wheels cause the label suggests different tyre pressures for front and rear tyres.

what's your tyre pressure? mine is 36psi front and 32psi rear.

  13. hi everyone

i thought i should make some comments on the build quality of my 05 camry sportivo 4 cyl.

i bought it brand new, so everything should be perfect, right? WRONG!

it drove fine for about 500km and then things listed below started happening.

    1. squeaking noises coming from the front right side of the car (driver's side)

    2. thumping noises coming from the left rear side of the car

    3. moisture inside the right headlight

    4. rattles coming from the front left door

    5. squeaking noises from the steering wheel (turning)

    6. fuel tank door misalignment

the squeaking noises were annoying not to mention embarassing (imagine this happening to you with 4 people inside the car).

the problem was fixed by replacing the front right suspension.

the thumping noises were quite serious and embarassing too. it was as if the rear left suspension was not working at all.

the problem was fixed by replacing the rear left suspension.

it was the first time i'd seen moisture inside any headlight.

the problem was fixed by replacing the right headlight.

even now the rattles still exist. any road irregularities would create these rattles that come from the left front door.

whenever i turned the steering wheel, it would go squeaky.

the problem was fixed by replacing the steering rack.

the 2nd time i filled up the fuel tank i noticed that the fuel tank door didn't really shut. it's still like this.

so in about 3 weeks after i drove it out of the dealership i've had the following replaced:

    1. front right suspension

    2. rear left suspension

    3. right headlight

    4. steering rack

my fuel economy is also off by 3.7 liters per 100km (specs says 9.8 liters per 100km but i'm getting 13.5 liters per 100km). i don't even drive aggresively.

    in summary: DISAPPOINTING build quality

any comments you might have would be appreciated. now all i want is for my NEW car to run with no rattles and with better fuel economy (even 11 liters per 100km would be heaven!)

  14. Wow, 13.5/100? Do you drive at high speeds all day? Not necessarily hard acceleration, but the higher speeds make an SS/XR8 more fuel efficient than a 2.4L Camry  :(

    hi cosmo

that means my camry sportivo is using 13.5 liters of petrol per 100 kilometres of distance traveled, or in other words i'm only getting about 7.5 kilometres per liter.

the specs (attached) says i'm suppose to using only 9.8 liters per 100 kilometres!!!!!

so my camry sportivo is using 3.7 liters more petrol per 100 kilometres!!!!!!!!

    yikes!! help!!! :)

  15. I get about 10l /100k in my 2.4, the tyres are at 38psi.

My mate gets around 8.5 around town being gentle.  :o

With the a Sportivo muffler, K&N air filter, some Fitch added (I know you don’t agree with them) and finally a custom tune Haltech tune hopefully on Monday I hope for closer to 8.

    Will let you know

    hi perthcamry

    i've got a 2.4 (2005) as well and right now i'm only getting 13.5 / 100

i know for sure that it's way off (i don't drive aggresively), know what i mean?

but at the same time, i'm not sure what to do about it........any suggestions?

and when you say "tyres at 38psi", does that mean front and rear?

i'm 100% sure the recommended pressure is 36psi front and 32psi rear (label says so)

    i would REALLY LOVE to get 10 / 100 even 11 :D

    thanks
