  1. I would recommend anyone looking at a diesel prado consider the 4.0 v6 pertol instead. I recently purchased a petrol one 2008 120 series after doing some thorough research on the injector issue. Yes Toyota know its an issue but here in Australia they refuse to acknowlege it. I get excellent results from my pertol model and it tows like a dreram. Plenty of power etc. with no downside to 4wd ing having the petrol. Service costs are cheaper too and service intervals longer. They are also slightly quieter inside.

  2. Milo 10,

This is a very easy unit to install. There are no wires to cut and the steering wheel controls still operate as normal. The unit is Australian stock located in Melbourne. It is a perfect fit as it is the same dimensions as the original unit it replaces. It also has the option of connecting a USB connection ans also a i-phone charger wire. (these wires come with it and you dont have to connect them if you dont want to).

I have a dashmat on my Kluger so i placed the sat-nav receiver under the dasmat at the front of the windscreen. It is totally hidden from view.

The entire fitment only took about 1 hour. The hardest part is removing the dash fascia panels to get to the original unit. You must start at the top near the air-con air vents first. Make sure you use a piece of strong thin plastic to remove them otherwise you will damage them. Once you have removed them the rest is quite easy.

I also changed the colour of the LED lights for my air-con controls by removing the small green rubber boots when I had the unit removed to install the GPS unit.

Again, very easy to install and use. It is one of the best looking units available on ebay.

    cheers

  3. I just fitted an aftermarket satnav/bluetooth to my 2009 KXR. Purchased on ebay from Dig Options in Melbourne for $499 delivered to my door with I-Go mapping. This unit is a plug nad play so steering buttons etc all work and no need to cut wires. It fit straight into the original stereo hole. Highly recommed this unit. I will try and arange some pics of it as it looks like a genuine unit when looking at the dash.

    cheers

  4. I recently went down the same path when looking for new rubber for my 2009 kxr. Only got 25000km out of the original dunlops. I opted for the Bridgestone D683. Got em for $310 each. Noticably different feel to the car. It steers more positively and is quieter by far. They have noe done 6000km since being fitted and are still looking brand new on the tread. B)

  5. I went the merlot red. Originally wanted the tidal blue but theree were none avail unless I wanted to wait for several months. Found a merlot one at a dealer interstate (Melbourne) already fitted with factory side steps, nudge bar and roof racks. Got these in the deal for $1500. Very happy with the merlot. Our other car is a carribean blue 2007 camry ateva. And yes....the red ones do go faster!!!!!

  6. Hey, Wilscat...

I tried today to remove the panel around the computer/airvents but did not have any luck. There is not much to grab hold of with my fingers and I didn't want to pull it too hard in case it broke. If you could supply some pictures it would be much appreiated by me and anyone else who may wish to remove their panels to upgrade thier audio system.

  7. Hi, all. Does anyone know how to remove the facia panel surrounding the factory stereo unit in a KX-R Kluger. I dont want to start pulling at it and break it. Im sure someone out there has had experience with this on their Kluger when repllacing their stereo. Also if anyone has any pictures could they please share.

    cheers Dazz.

  8. This is why the japanese leave our local manufacturers for dead when it comes to build and quality. Just look how clean and modern the plant is. Here in Australia Holden and Ford make do with plants which date back to the 50's and 60's. I'll buy Toyota any day.

  9. post-14949-1257219767_thumb.jpgHas anyone done any research on this gps unit I have located on the net. I have been looking for that long now I am getting a little confused. This one states it is for the Highlander (which is the US version of the Kluger). Any thoughts would be appreciated as I can get one to my door for $550 AUD. It is through a company calledIP mart. Here is there web address for a look. www.ipmart.com

  10. Sat_Nav.pdfHas anyone got any info re pricing etc on the factory type GPS for the Kluger which fits directly where the factory cd/radio unit fits on the KX-R and KX-S models. I have read the forum posted on this site but it only covers the unit for the Grande style. I have attached the PDF file from the Toyota Aust web site. Also if anyone knows where an aftermarket one which will fit in place of the factory unit can be purchased.
  11. Good choice. I have a KX-R 2wd 7 seater in Merlot. Has all the same factory options as you have listed plus front and rear factory moulded mud flaps. I reckon they really make the vehicle especially with the side steps. You wont be dissapointed with your choice of vehicle. Enjoy and start counting the sleeps......

  12. Hi Guys, there was a request to photograph and document my steering wheel removal (Taka!). Here it is.

Edit: The purpose of removing my steering wheel was to add a new switch assembly (indicator stick) that includes the dial for the fog lights. The first part of installing the fog lights is here; Fog Light Install - the base model Kluger has ALL the wiring, fuses and relays already installed for fog lights. You just need the lights, bezels for the bumper, and a switch. (either a switch assembly or a switch for the dash somewhere)

Please note, if you follow what I did below, YOU DO SO AT YOUR OWN RISK. Im not responsible for any mishaps or omissions.

My steps are below, but I strongly recommend getting the following two documents off the Toyota tech info site - doc id; RM000000UW801VX (Steering pad removal) and doc id; RM000000WAD015X (Steering column assembly: removal) You wont need to remove the whole steering column, but it shows the procedure for taking off the wheel.

IMPORTANT: First thing to do, is remove the negative cable on the battery and wait 90 seconds. This is to prevent air-bag deployment.

You need a torx socket (T-30), a flat and phillips head screw driver, and a socket wrench with a 16mm socket.

    1. First step is to remove these covers;

    DSC00617.jpg

This can be done by using an electrical screw driver with some tape wrapped around it. (to prevent scratching)

    2. Next is to loosen the T-30 torx bolts

    DSC00618.jpg

They'll come out to a point and stop against a plastic holder (in other words, they just loosen, not come right off)

    3. Carefully take out steering wheel pad. It has the air bad connectors and the horn wire connected to it.

    DSC00620.jpg

The air bag connectors are weird, you have to pop the yellow tabs up with a screwdriver

    DSC00619.jpg

    4. With the 16mm socket, take out the centre nut holding the wheel in place. You also have to unclip the wires up top (think they're the wires for the button controls from memory)

    DSC00621.jpg

    5. Wheel off! Next is to remove the centre piece. If you're careful, this can be done without removing all the wires.

    DSC00622.jpg

    Steering pad to the right

    DSC00623.jpg

    6. Unhook the wiring connector shown to the right, this will clip into the new switch assembly. (this is the wiring for your lights)

    DSC00624.jpg

At the same time, unclip the wiper assembly to the left, this will also go straight onto your new switch assembly.

    7. Nothing left but the switch assembly. Taking that off was really tricky and took about 20 minutes. You need a pair of pliers, and need to grab a metal ring up the top, when you squeeze the ring, it loosens sufficiently to pull the switch assembly off. This was the hardest part of the whole exercise, the assembly wouldnt budge, i thought perhaps id missed a clip or something, but eventually it wiggled free.

    DSC00625.jpg

    End result:

    DSC00630.jpg

One thing that really irked me, my local dealer said it would be $85 to remove the wheel and put the new swtich assembly in. Thats fine, but the guy looked me in the eye and said they need 45 minutes to 'repack the air bag' - an out and out lie. The air bag is inside the steering pad, I never even saw it in my removal.

The whole operation took nearly two hours. This is mainly cause I went very slowly and carefully.

  13. Does anyone know where to get an aftermarket leather gear knob for a 2008 Kluger. I believe they are the same on the Camry and Aurions. I contacted the parts department at my local dealer and was quoted $150. I thought this was a bit rich. I am after one that is the same as the factory one but just in leather as on the ks-s and grande models.

  14. I'm under 25 and I paid $2300 for just car insurance........09 Kluger KX-S

    ouch

$670 in brisbane metro with NRMA, over 30's drivers only, garaged, full no claims bonus. 08 KXS AWD

it was actually the same insurance cost for a commodore wagon SS-V which is crazy as thats a V8. I drove the kluger first then went for a drive in the SS-V. Difference in overall quality was noticeable straight away.

Pity the Kluger doesnt come in a V8 though. I would of bought the territory if they had a V8 version.....

Paying $480 per yr for 2009 kxr 2wd thru mutual community. low km nominated driver in adelaide
