if you have a full day where you dont need the car you can do a really good diy job for under $50.

I bought some headliner/carpet glue or somethin like that 2yrs ago and took the current material to a fabric shop and got pretty much the exact material and colour for $15 for 6 meters (epic cheap), $20 for the glue (online) and $12 for ultrathin foam (not sure if you need it if the material your using is thicker)

Pretty much remove the rooflining board thingy, be careful not to break it when taking it out of the car, clean off the rotted existing foam, spray on the glue(sprays out reasonably thick so one even coating should be enough, lay on new material and use a ruler or something flat to flattened it out so you dont get loose patches and your done.

Its a pretty vague description of what i did but rest of the stuff is common sense as your doing it youll know what your doing.

Dont do it if you need the car a few hours later or something as it might take longer than you think and taking as much time as possible will get the best result.

Owner sold the car a year after i did and it still looked factory new

before i gave my laptop to relatives overseas i used to use photoshop every now and then

but now im using a 15yr old no brand laptop from china, 128mb ram has to be plugged in to work etc essentially its a piece of crap but thought id give it ago anyway and see how far i get before it dies

my chops are kept fairly simple and mainly JDM style i suppose

oh yeh also realised i went from 5 stud to 4 stud lol

love the "grill" area its similar to the look ive wanted to achieve on other cars where it looks like the cars going to eat you or somethin B)

this morning when i was driving i was looking at every car to see if i could find the same one, was goin crazy

May I ask islander, why exactly are you collecting bumpers?

haha not really collecting bumpers but i was at my friends house(mechanic) and he said they were going to be chopped up and thrown in the skip and saw that they were in reasonably good condition so i took em and thought i could make a couple of bucks to go towards the car, as you can see in the pics i got a whole bunch of parts sitting there which i dont really need but sometimes you cant help collecting random crap

i know what you guys are getting at by the vt/vy commo thoughts but im still sure its off a newer car.

The grill area is just the backing for the grill not the actual grill like on vt bumpers.

Also apart from the newish looking fog light surrounds and the centre lower grill area it has parking sensor holes (i think) at the bottom of the bar

definitely not VT i think, and dont think its a VY either, vy has the fog lights directly in the bumper by itself with no surround/grill, i reckon its off a fairly new car max 4yrs old

and addy287 - haha never used ebay to sell anythin and doubt i ever will as long as there are forums etc around, so much easier but yeh plan was to make a couple of bucks because its in pretty good condition just needs a clean.

can someone explain to me the square cut out bit?

at first i thought it was for some sensor insert as ive seen same size square inserts in the front/rear of other cars

i have some pretty wacked up ideas in regards to the bumper and an angle grinder but it would be a waste imo

Hey guys, i picked up this front bumper off a mechanic friend and just wanted to get it specifically identified.

Firstly i thought it was off a gen 5 camry but half of them on the road i saw had a different type so i wasnt 100% sure.

If it is from a Gen 5 which year and model variant would it have come from (ateva, altise, etc)

Thought this would be the best place to ask :D

Hey guys, i joint up last year in the hope of learning more about camrys and hopefully getting some mods done over time.

When i joined up i was driving my mums Gen 4 - 1999 Camry CSI Sedan (Dark Blue) but a few weeks after joining up and making about 20 posts on the forum i ended up purchasing a S13 Silvia and essentially left the forum

But now im back after relatively doing most of what i wanted to the S13, i now want to make the camry a bit more individual (have a few ideas lurking in my mind) and have built a decent contact list for nearly everything car related since i left.

Ill start up a members ride thread for the camry and possibly the s13 in the coming weeks.

Thats my life story :P but hopefully i can stick around for sometime and get to know everyone

welcome mate, im new as well and the info on this forum is great and almost every question you will have is answerable i reckon by at least 1 person on here, my rides a 99 camry as well but mines 4cyl stock :(

finished the engine bay and also tested sound system , on to do list for 2moro - look for some cheap kenwood speakers for the doors and replace them, also need some cabling to be replaced, also saw that the roof lining is getting worse day by day so will have to do that soon(hopefully its a DIY job),

been experimenting with door trim designs , the sketches look alright but ill be taken em into photoshop, most likely it will be a plain dark coloured design with camry stiched into it in either dark blue or grey or maybe silver depending if it looks too tacky or not

also relocated my amp and gave the engine bay a bit of a clean until the weather got too hot

I was wondering where i could get a hold of a gen 4 camry grill as i wanted a spare one to modify instead of risking the original one incase i need to replace it later down the track when selling or something. Ive looked online and cheapest i found was $40 but im more looking for a used one for under $20 hopefully.

I mainly need the frame of the grill so badge doesnt matter or would there be a way to make the surround bit? not sure what materials i would use.

yeh i need to learn manual as well since my parents only drove auto when i was learning, im on my greens and a mate offered to teach but he is pretty busy, also i dont really mind autos but admit they are boring as hell with a stock engine (4cyl) and im pretty sure my dad would want to drive it since his probably gonna help out with some money

do you think i should a start a new thread regarding more questions related to camrys or it doesnt matter if i keep replyin in here? questions such as common problems to look for, amount of kms and all that because on this forum ive actually gotten information that is useful from you guys lol compared to a few others i use.

Ermmm... depending on how bad it is will depend on whether it's driveable or not. Quite honestly I wouldn't go anywhere near a car with a blown HG or anything like that.

Gen 4s are ok... the 1MZs didn't have the HG problems like the 3VZs off the Gen 3.

I'm still a Gen 3 fan - they're build more solid in my books. After stepping into an 01, I hated it. It just didn't feel right... but ya get that.

yeh i just like the look of the gen 4s, they seem to look more in proportion compared to the gen 5, probs just me but everytime i look at it it looks sorta squished up??? lol, gen 3 was on the mind but was thinking of just getting a model newer since ill be keeping it for a while(that is if i end up getting it)

also the amount of things ive managed to fit into the gen 4 is unbelievable which is another reason for choosing this model

if you guys have any suggestions to what would be good , in the end ill decide myself anyway but ive been pretty one minded about this

also doubt im gonna bother with the headgasket stuff and just get somethin decent

yeh i suppose im not really a mechanically minded person which is the problem. $800 for car, $800 for someone to fix it then $1600 plus rego and all that

it'd be worth it if the car was something special ill have a look online and see whats there

i want a 4th gen camry but really need somethin to get around in now so 3rd gen looks pretty good

also wanted to know if the head gaskets blown is the car still driveable or not.

Like if i wanted to just check out the transmission etc or does it have to be towed and get fixed
