  1. Thanks The TOYOTA book says 3.7 L with the oil filter. You are correct with the 2ZZ-GE, it is 4.3 L.
  2. Good day Has anyone with a 1800 Corolla found that the amount of oil that comes out is more than the 3.7L that it should have. I have the 1600 (3ZZ-FE) Corolla, though it is the same as the 1800 (1ZZ-FE). I drained the oil cold and the dip stick showed perfectly full before draining. Yet when i drained the oil I found 4.3L of oil (double checked). Then when I put the new oil in, the dip stick only showed full after putting in about 4.2L of new oil. I have not had a chance to take my car to TOYOTA yet.
  3. I have just finished putting the new oil in. I noticed though that the old oil almost filled the 5 litre container that I used. It is also strange that I used well over 4 litres to fill the engine with the new oil, yet the Corolla book says that it takes 3.6 litres. At no stage prior to or after the change has the oil ever been over the full mark on the dip stick. Has anyone ever had this. The engine is the 3ZZ-FE -> same as the 1ZZ-FE. Thanks :o
  4. Good morning :) I have decided to try The Toyota oil - R150.00 buys a 15W40 oil that Toyota saya is mineral. I have decided against the 5W40 Castrol Edge (R240.00) just incase the 5W is too thin in the morning. Many people say drain the oil at operating temp though if the car has stood over night, surely the oil is all in the sump and one will drain more out. At operating temp the oil is sitting all over. Which is best....... Thanks :D
  5. Hello Corzza Apparantly the 95 takes longer to burn and will require that the timing changes. It is Caltex, few and far between though and costs about 15c more :o What octane do most Corolla drivers use in Australia ? Thanks :D
  6. Good morning :D In South Africa we have recently had 95 Octane ( unleaded ) introduced at altitude. Will my ECU change the timing automatically or will Toyota have to do it? I have the 3ZZ-FE engine - same as the 1ZZ-FE engine except for the displacement. I have been using 93 octane and have only done 6000km with the engine. Any noticable performance improvement ? Thanks :)
  7. Thanks No one large drives the car It is a Corolla 160i GLE, and though it is not available in Aus, it should have the same components as they are all assembled in the same place. I would have thought that Toyota would have inspcted all the other components - what other components could it be?
  8. Good day :D I noticed the other day that my suspension on the right hand side of my new Corolla was +- 20mm lower than that of the left hand side. I took it to Toyota and they feel that it is a faulty coil spring on the front right side, yet it is the back right side that has dropped the most. They have ordered a new coil spring and they have said that that should fix the problem. Has anyone experienced this or anything similar on their new Toyotas of late ? Thanks :) Oh yes, I also asked them about my alarm problem and they found nothing wrong. They reset my system and cleared all error codes. It seems fine thus far.
  9. Wow - I find it amazing that here the Corolla even comes in a 1400 varient, yet in Australia you only have the 1800, which probably costs the same or less than our Corolla 140i
  10. Merry Christmas :D I am from Johannesburg. Yes the Toyotas are expensive here, inspite of being produced in SA. I believe that the 3ZZ-FE (1600) engine is the same as the 1ZZ-FE (1800), exept for the difference in displacement. Are there no Corolla 160i's in Australia So - does anyone have suggestions regarding my alarm debacle, since your cars are essentially the same as mine :)
  11. I am from South Africa :) The alarm comes with central locking, though with the keys not switching the alarm on or off, neither will work. It is strange how the alarm comes on if I lock the doors Manually with the keys and then when I open the door with the key, it makes a huge (alarm) noise, and I can not switch it off. Any ideas. The 160i Gle has the 3ZZ-FE engine. Thanks :D
  12. Good day :) I have a Corolla 160i GLE 2005 model. Yesterday the alarm and central locking would not work and I tried both keys. The problem is that as I lock the car manually with the key, the alarm arms itself and as I manually unlock the door, the alarm goes off. Then I have no way of stopping the alarm once it goes off as it does not respond to the remote in the key. Has anyone ever experienced this and how can one switch the alarm off if it is faulty. The car starts though. I will have to wait until Tuesday to take it to Toyota Thanks
