  1. ... Filled up in Cranbourne, next fill was West Wyalong (spelling?). Stopped over night at Coonabarabran...

Off topic... since I would assume you went that way, how did the Kluger absorb the bumpiness of the Newell? I have sworn to never again drive that road if I need to get to Melbourne. My poor shocks.

... Only saw 1 roo the whole trip, although I had to brake hard once to avoid an emu that stepped out infornt of me!

Emu... now that's a first. I've seen roos (some lying on the lane next to me luckily, some that I've had to avoid... both alive and dead), foxes, and rabbits, but definitely not emus. I have hit a bat of all things though.

The only part of the Newell that was terrible was the stretch between Moree & Goondiwindi. It's a national disgrace. The Kluger handled it OK though.

As for road works, I had to stop 3 times fully for about 5 mins each time.

  2. I bottomed the front end slightly today and bent the bolt holding the right side of the plastic under pan or what ever its called. Havent taken it apart yet as all my tools are in transit. Does anyone have a factory manual I can download so I can guess what damage has been done? It looks like the bolts bent back and the plastic has hole in it with metal showing through. I'll get a pick tomorrow. I wouldnt mind a manual though!

  3. My VY V6 Commodore would average mid 7's on the long hauls @ 110km/h I could get nearly 900Km out of a tank. hahaha I dont care about fuel economy so much anymore. If I did I would by a prius. Pft. Just fill her up and pay. Thats what happens when you live in the country and fuel gets to $2 bucks a litre. You stop caring. Specially when you go on the trips and get bargin fuel $1.40 per litre

I just did the Melb to Brisbane run, did anout 1,600km used average 8.6l/100km. Generally sticking to speed limits, plus the odd shoot to 160km/h to get around those pesky road trains. Filled up in Cranbourne, next fill was West Wyalong (spelling?). Stopped over night at Coonabarabran, 1,000km day is easy in this car (I was by myself), I probably could have done the whole trip in one go I reckon. Only saw 1 roo the whole trip, although I had to brake hard once to avoid an emu that stepped out infornt of me!

  4. Hi all,

I am a newbie to this forum. Gained a lot of knowledge from the various posts. I have booked a 2010 built Kluger KX-R 2WD, 7 seats in Graphite with mud splats, floor mats, window tints and rear parking sensors for 43K driveaway from Penant Hills Toyota. You guys think this is a good price?

Dont buy it. Klugers are heaps of crap.

  5. did you not test drive the vehicle before you bought it?

the vibration is normal, it would have been present in the car you test drove.

from my understanding... the Small vibration you are noticing is the torque converter under load while you are on the brake/ebrake. just about every automatic vehicle does this to some degree.

blaming for toyota for not testing this? are you serious? these cars are so over tested its not funny. if toyota deemed the small vibration in your 50k POS to be un satisfactory they would have rectified it.

i sense buyers remorse. if you are that unhappy, yes, sell the car. buy your korean cheapy, and be done with it.

Dont make me laugh. I have owned a lot of new cars over the years and never had 'remorse' as you say. I have also driven many models of cars like most other people probably have on this site over the years and I have never experienced this before. Therefore, it is my opinion that this is abnormal, and certainly would not have been designed to operate in this way. I am a commissioning engineer by trade and when I come across these problems I would ensure that the supplier would investigate and rectify - which I will. And if they say its 'normal' then they must sign off that it is not detrimental and will not affect the operating life of the vehicle, not for just '3 years'.

I definately wont be buying another toyota, very poor quality.

(In addition I noticed a grinding noise coming from the steering while I was turning left. Toyota is a joke. I'm gonna flog this POS off in a year to some other poor sap, cut my losses and buy something decent).

  6. The vibrations are unacceptable in a 50k car, and should have been engineered out during development of the vehicle. I would have expected better from Toyota, so I dont think I'll be keeping this POS. Should have just bought the Santa fe (my previous car was a Tuscon, great car no vibrations or any trouble at all. thanks Hyundai). Thumbs down to Toyota.

  7. Is this with your foot on or off the brake?

How cold are we talking about? Within the first minute or two? If so, you would find that in the first minute or two on a cold startup, the engine runs at a higher RPM than when warm. This can result in extra vibration being felt, but shouldn't be anything over the top. Just one possibility.

Yeah, it happens whenever the enginer is at ambient, and for a few minutes. I'll have to ask the dealer about it.

  8. G'day.

I picked up my FWD Kluger last friday. The thing I have noticed is that when the engine is cold and I stick it in reverse or drive, a lot of vibrations enter the cabin. When the engine warms up the vibration are no longer apparent. Anyone else notice this?

  9. Yes indeed!

I have been driving my RX7 allot recently, just have the POS Toyota parked out in the sun since this oil line scandal/saga.

Will have a break over Christmas and more than likely put it up for sale in new year, then go buy the V6 twin turbo diesel VW I originally test drove (in hindsight for a little more money it was a much better motor car *if not as fast*).

Why not go for an X5 then. Only a little more money.

  10. Welcome WKD !

You'll love it when you pick it up and start driving it...

We picked ours up about 2 weeks ago and we still fight over who is taking it for the day.

Such a pleasure to drive and all things considered, pretty darn good on petrol, too.

There are plenty of worthwhile topics/threads here which are worth reading and will certainly help to wet your appetite :)

Good luck with the waiting process....

    Dave

Hey Dave, are you breaking it in like Rice Racing did? Or are you just driving it normally.

  11. It appears that they screwed up the spec for the original rubber pipe. My guess is that the new rubber pipe would last much longer. I dont have anything against using a rubber oil pipeline provided it is guaranteed to last the life of the engine. I dont think it would though. Perhaps what they might do is grant anyone who requests a solid metal pipeline just that, and those who dont care or kick up a fuss, just the up-speced rubber one. IF I was the Toyota dealer I would do that to keep my customers happy.

  12. Well, finally picked up our Kluger on Friday afternoon, and we're so happy with the car.

Took it for a drive to Geelong yesterday and it purrs like a kitten.

I was so excited I woke up early Saturday morning and at 7am started washing, claying, polishing and waxing the car (which took about 4 hours).

Now the paintwork feels just like the example they showed me in the dealership (which had the $1K+ paint protection on it)...

So far our average L/100km is around 9.7....with about 300km on the clock (this includes a bit of stop-start driving through the Melb CBD), a bit of suburban driving and some open-road driving to Geelong and back.

Very impressed with the mileage thus far.

Now just need to wait another 2 weeks and we get our Alpine DVD roof-mounted player installed :)

Will put up a couple of photos in due course.

Such a great car to drive. Even better than I remember when taking one for a test drive !

Mine is due on the 16th. Glad your happy with it.

I think the Alpine DVD doesn't play divx or xvid?

  13. That was $48,900 drive-away, no more to pay. 09 model kxr awd 7 seat. Doesnt sound too bad.

Take $5K off that price and that doesn't sound bad (for a KX-R 7-str without any extras).

As per my post earlier, I very recently negotiated $46.5K for a 2009 KX-R 7-seater inc. nudge bar, sidesteps, tow bar, mats, front & rear sensors....so $48.9K seems VERY high.

Note: this was for brand new stock (which I'm still awaiting delivery for)...not for a car that has been sitting in the lot taking up space.

Is yours a 2WD? Remeber, the one I'm talking about is AWD, which would add 4,500 rrp.

  14. mate, knowing how it works... if i was the Sales Manager i'd do anything to clear an 08 plate, to a customer in 09.

it does make a difference... its no wonder you got a big discount. Its all about maximum return for retail space. Old cars, take up space for new cars, that can turn a higher price.... simple as that.

anyone looking at 09 plate cars.. in 09... will need to expect to pay a higher price, of course we can discount to a certain degree, but it all comes down to the deal you do on the day. One thing people seem to forget is that car salesmen, like myself.. are here to get you the best deal possible on any given day, ultimately its up to our sales managers who can say yes or no to an offer.

  16. They pulled the old "Now that we know you want a Kluger you can have blue or sage in December" so I told them that's no problem, I can have a captiva now and wouldn't wait. Miraculously they found a Silver one within 2 weeks.

Picked it up a week and a half ago, I'm so happy it's not funny. Family loves it, wifey loves it, just quietly I love it.

Even set my blackberry up through the AUX plug on the stereo for music and faux handsfree :)

Mum is looking at a Kx-r AWD for 48,900 drive away, just including car mats.

    Good deal?

    5 or 7 seats?

    7 seats.

  18. Well I am up to 22100km on the Kluger and she is running sweet, due for its 3rd service.

Have been driving her to and from town with odd highway trip thrown in and its averaged 9.8lt for the last 3480km. Overall I'd say its a win and happy to report it does not use any oil between changes either so I got a good one from the factory lucky dip :D of engines ;)

I'd say you got a great one from the lucky dip :)

Notice mine's been feeling a little sluggish and using more fuel since the last service when I changed to Mobil 1 Super Syn 0W-40. I woulsn't think the oil would be the reason for the change.

Yeah? I don't know. In my own case coming up for service I was going to switch to a cheaper oil but I think I will stick with the same its had from the 1000km mark being Mobil 1 0w-30 *the ultra expensive stuff*. I would not think engine oil would make such a big difference but hey all I need to do is re read this thread where I listed it all day by day and when I changed the oil the car measured a big difference in performance

I seem to think another member posted how he noticed a difference (noticeable less power and worse economy) when he changed from the ultra expensive Mobil 1 to a lesser specification but I could be dreaming?

    Hey Rice,

Is it better to do your break in procedure quickly? For example, 500km per day and finish it on the second day. Or is it better to let the engine go down to room temp after each 200km milestone? Thanks.

  19. Dont forget to keep an eye on this in your car.

"I live in Canada, and I recently took my 2005 Avalon in for an oil change. While performing the oil change, the staff at the dealership identified and advised me of a leak in the VVT oil line. They also advised that the line could burst, draining the engine of oil and possibly causing engine damage. I was advised that I should not drive the vehicle, and left it at the dealership awaiting replacement parts and repairs.

Several days later, I'm still leaving for a timeline to obtain the parts and repairs. The vehicle has just under 32,000 km on it.

This may be a bigger issue than just myself, as it appears that Toyota issued a Tech Tip TVI2310 in September of 2008 identifying the condition and recommending replacement of the oil line. According to the Toyota document, Toyota models affected can include the 2005 to 2009 Avalon, 2007 to 2009 Camry V6, 2007 to 2009 Sienna, 2008 to 2009 Highlander, and the 2006 to 2009 RAV4. "
