  1. Had an uneven rolling sound at the front of the car and suspecting it was the tires i changed them.

The problem remained and frustrated i took it down to Pedders for a 28 point safety test .

The result : Drivers side Front bearing needs replacement.

Called around for the bearing .

    Toyota : $150

    AutoPro : $167

    Bursons: $115

    Supercheap : Dont stock it.

    Autobarn : $85

    Supply and Fit :

    Midas $320

    Ultratune $300

Does anyone know if the ZZE122 and ZZE123 use the same wheel bearing?

Cant get over the Autobarn price unless its not for the Sportivo and is for ZZE122 .

To avoid ordering the incorrect part i need help in knowing if they use diff bearings .

Dont trust pedders 28 point safety test, it was on Today Tonight as a big scam.

  2. Hey guys im planning to get a CAI for my 04 stivo, im tossing up between Injen and AEM, i have had a look through some of the older topics on CAI's but it hasn't been as helpful so im hoping you guys can help share your views. I was interested in Injen and AEM because from what ive read they both seem to increase low end power, for those who have had either installed share what they think. I was also wondering if the part numbers in the stick are for the corolla sportivo prefacelift and where would be best to get either of these intakes, thanks alot guys your help is much appreciated.

Why not try a CES CAI,tried and proven performance, easily available, heaps of people on TOC swear by them, like me.

  3. I have purchased a 2nd hand Corolla Sportivo 2005 and it has a CAI intake (I believe it's a TRD CAI but do not know for certain).

The car has a problem of spluttering and stalling at low revs/ neutral/ pulling up to the lights. When the car is behaving itself the engine will idle at about 1k rpm. But when it is being temperamental it will idle very awkwardly anywhere between 750 and 500 rpm or just stall. More over the problem comes and goes, i.e. some days the car will be fine and other days it will stall as I am changing down gears.

There is also another persistant problem, which may be related, of having very low power at lower revs, i.e. taking off from 1st. The car is fine at higher revs (between 3k to 5k) but again, it's the lower revs that is causing problems.

Is the problem the CAI or is it something else?

Thanks in advance for the help!

Also, I'm new to owning a rolla, so please be patient :)

My car does same thing when cold just needs a coupple of minutes to warm up then fine.Usually happens more when weather is cold.

  4. I bought a 2002 Corolla a few weeks ago & I have a couple of quick questions:

    1. How can I tell if my Corolla's fitted with ABS brakes or not? I have a Conquest. I know ABS didn't come standard on this model but the previous owner told me it was fitted with ABS & EBD. Is there something in the engine bay I should be looking for?

    2. Were certain Corollas fitted with white speedo dials? Mine is but all the pics I've seen online have been of black speedo dials. The previous owner may have fitted them. Just curious.

    3. Where's a good place in Sydney to get cheap 2nd hand Toyota parts? I'd like to get a replacement centre console trim as the mounts on the little cover above the ashtray, just below th AC controls, are broken on mine. One of the mounts on the flip cover near the hand-brake is broken too, so it doesn't open or close properly.

    Any help would be great.

Read owners manual like everyone else.or

When you turn on key, ABS will light up on dash for a few seconds

  5. Hi,

The electrics on my 1991 Seca worked fine until a few months ago, since then they've been pretty odd.

    1) Battery keeps going flat (down to 4 volts charge), I was about to replace it when my mechanic said it was an old generator fan belt slipping & not charging, so that was changed. No improvement. Total Russian roulette on starting the car.

I've ditched the 1st mechanic (too many bad things there). A separate one checked the current from the generator to battery & pronounced it fine. So getting a new battery next week.

But there are other things I wonder about.....

When the car is idling it sits at 600RPM and all electrical systems are on half power. It wasn't like that before a few months ago.

Often when left on its own it will cycle between 600-700 RPM and the headlights, radio and any other electrical system will go closer to full power at 700RPM.

But these are only basic electrics like running lights, interior light & radio.

If I rev the engine over 700 RPM then all systems run at full power, including the headlights, electric windows etc.

There doesn't seem to be enough juice being supplied for even basic electrics below 700RPM. This is certainly even before bringing in a real heavy like Aircon, that saps everything and even slows down the engine noticeably while driving. Aircon used to be a fuel guzzler but didn't affect engine performance appreciably (no ageist jokes pleez! ;) ). But anyway haven't been running Aircon for weeks, that's not a major issue here.

All these changes in the electrics happened after there was a service done where the ignition lead set and cap were changed, along with a new set of plugs installed, again, some months ago by the original mechanic.

The engine has run fine since then but the electrics have gone to hell along with the battery which is about a year old.

Sounds like a stuffed alternator.A new one should fix electrical problems.

  6. Hi,

Thought I'd share another successful task on my Sportivo!

Decided to changed the transmission fluid, and used the Castrol Syntrax 75W90 and Nulon G70 as recommended here.

At first, getting that bloody fill plug (10mm Hex) was nearly impossible, but got it off with a couple of good hits with a hammer!

At first, I was a little disappointed, as the gears weren't quite as smooth as I was expecting, but now after doing a nice long trip from Syd to Canberra, it feels a hell of a lot smoother.

If anyone wants to know more about it, let me know. Happy to lend any assistance.

Overall, I'm quite happy with it!

I have the same fluids in my sportivo, the combination works well.Much smoother gear changing.

  7. I want to add some "safety" features to my 2003 ZZE Corolla Seca Ascent.

First I want a passengers airbag, then ABS and also that warning thing about the seatbelt on the passenegr side.

I know that when my parents bought the car, there was an option for the "safety pack" at a cost of $1500 or so which would include these features on the Ascent.

Now I'm wondering if it can actually be done... because with the passenger side airbag, I'm wondering if I need to get a new dash shell as well? because I can see ripples on the area where the passenger airbag is supposed to go so i suspect that area has to be cut out to put an airbag in?

As for ABS, I think the brake lines need to be re-routed? I just hope that all the appropriate wires are there already...

Anyway, what do you guys think? can it be done?

never heard anyone doing that before prob cheaper to sell and buy one with safety pack

  8. My aircon smells funny perhaps because I've got it on re-circulate most of the time. A friend advised me to chuck it on fresh air every once in a while except of course for when you have a falcadore in front of you running LPG thus making you suck rotten egg fumes for breakfast, lunch and dinner ....

I did as advised and noticed some improvement. Went to the extend of spraying Glen 20 in the vents close to the engine bay and in the car as well. Help it a little bit more but not much....

Saw an aircon dude. Charges me $60 bucks to deodorize. I needed a refill anyway cause aircon isn't as cold as it use to be anymore. $180 all up i think. Still has that hint of dodgy smell occasionally and was also told that this symptom are common is almost all Toyota aircons which are i think is Denso like most Toyota parts?

Thoughts and necessity? I think i got scamed ... which is most probably true ...

    :lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

    :P :P :P :P :P :P

Is injector cleaning a scam Guni cause i was going to get it done next week $180 bucks

  9. Hi everyone,

I'm soon due for my 80,000km service, but know how damn expensive it is, as my partner just paid $500 for her service. I seriously refuse to pay that much, considering 3/4 of the stuff you can do yourself.

    Basically, i've done:

    Oil and Filter

    Spark Plugs

No need for air filter as i've got a CAI

Brake fluid - changed when I upgraded to Slotted Rotors and stainless steel braided brake lines

Balance on wheels - recently done

Tyre rotation - can do that myself

So, basically all I need are the fuel filters (never done them before so I'm not sure how to replace them or where they are - could always search the forums/ask so no biggie), and also all the inspections.

Would Toyota or anywhere stamp/sign the log books if i've already done have of it, or will they be required to do everything in order to fill in the log books? And, how much do you think they would charge?

The car is second hand and not under any warranty either.

Oh, and next question, are log books even really that important if your doing all the servicing to the 10,000km schedule, or sooner as a lot of people do?

$500 is about right, mine cost me $520

Fuel filter is under back seat

Log book servicing is important for resale you will get more when you sell and pretty much any mechanic can stamp log book but they wont stamp it if you have done service yourself

  10. hey everyone,

i've been driving a 94' (carby) dualcab hilux since i first got my license, i've got a fair bit of experience in the minitruck scene, and 4 years down the track im absoloutely sick of them!

so here i am, looking to upgrade into something with a bit more guts and handling ability, but still keen to stick with toyota.

I'm pretty sure i want a sportivo corolla, i just have 2 questions for any corolla owners out there:

1 - I ride mountain bikes a lot, im guessing it would be possible to fold the back seats down and fit one it, but can anyone confirm that?

2 - what are you guys doing for more torque? I've been reading through and CAI's seem to be the most popular mod on here. having never owned an EFI i'm going to ask - can chips/remaps help shift the power curve to providing more torque? forgive me if this is a ridiculous question, i'm not very learned in this area :D

oh, and while i'm here, at home this forum works fine for me, but for some reason when i'm at work i can only see the first post in a thread, and all the replies appear as little links underneath the first post, and i have to open each one individualy. does anyone know how to change that?

i've provided a screenshot to show you what i mean.

thanks for reading my life story! :)

    tristan

If you want more torque go the ported headers it helps with the torque hole between 4000-6000 rpm

  11. Hey kizz,
