  1. I always use a torque wrench only cause I'm old fashioned, the TRD rims are expensive to replace and rattle guns hammer the nut home...Very important on aftermarket alloys as they can distort easily...

Also I would recommend is a dab of copper based never seize grease on the thread as fine threads can seize (thread lock)

  2. Beware of exhaust modifications on twin cams...I've spent 25 years in the exhaust game...

Rule of thumb unbolt and save your original exhaust parts...

Why??...The modern day car is thinly built and all these flashy shiny "boy racer" bits that look cool generate noise, lots of it and it comes straight into the interior...Plus they sound like ****...

So when you can't handle the noise anymore bolt the original parts back on and increase you resale value...

2nd rule of thumb is If you want your 4 cylinder to sound like a cool V8 add another 4 cylinders...

    G’Day Tony,

    well written mate.

I am 64yrs and still love the trill and interest of trying to make an already well engineered car, perform better.

yes it is a notable improvement with the new bush kit, both with crisp sharp steering over the original factory set up.

The new wheel alignment set up will stay in that new position over the factory alignment position as you now have a double offset bush setup.

As for tyre ware, you will have a lot better tyre stance on the road surface, as your tyres thread will sit more flush to the surface of the road.

this performance bush kit gives positive castor on both sides of your car, which in hand gives perfect geometry through your steering.

    cheers, mate 👍

Take it from another old timer (63 years old.)..I own a 3500SL TRD and if you want better handling from an Aurion ...learn how to push/force a Front wheel drive car into and out of a corner...It's all about throttle and brakes to keep the the weight on your driving wheels...I've had a late model BMW chase me up Dorigo mountain and he followed me into the next servo to find out WTF I was driving...

    Want better km's per dollar?

Put 91 in, and use the savings per tank (compared to using 95) to put more 91 in and you'll see more km's.

Using expensive fuel to save money, is roughly the same logic my dad used when he paid a 20k premium on his diesel Mercedes over the petrol versions to "save money on fuel"

Rubbish...False economy...I have to use 98 because I own a TRD...But my previous V6 Vienta went further and performed better using 95 than 91...Ridiculously better than any ethanol fuel...The workshop I worked in had all our regulars on a premium fuel and those customers never had a fuel injector problem...

One regular customer had a v6 six Camry with over 300 thousands k's from new on it using premium only and apart from normal servicing we never had to touch the engine....

Good oil...change oil filter each service and premium fuel....

My yard care equipment refuses to start/run without 95. Lot to be said for being old school.

Mmmm??....I have a honda powered brush cutter, a honda powered edger, a 9hp honda powered trencher....a 5 hp B&S powered thatcher, an 8 year old B&S powered mower, a 3.5hp B&S powered cultivator....All on 95 and I have never had a problem starting any of them....Yeah, there is a lot to be said about old school....

I think it's stupid to remove 91 entirely. I am getting sick of Governments removing our choices and mandating as they see fit. Enough already I reckon.

We're supposed to be a Democracy, living in a free world...

Personally I don't care....I'm an old school motor mechanic, been out of the game for years and I won't even put 91 or ethanol fuels in engines of my yard care power equipment or my old motorbike...I only ever use 95 in them....

When you start reading about fuel quality in Australia, it is lower quality with more permitted sulfur content.

It explains why we do not get the latest generation Toyota engines which require better quality fuels.

Eventually in the next few years, unleaded 91 will not be available.

Also, I was of the belief that the additional power output of 203 or 204 KW was based upon 95 octane.

They've been talking about the demise of 91 for years....The problem seems to be the fuel companies are resisting the additional infrastructure investment that would be needed because of the Australian market size....

Thanks Stephen for the info, As most Aurion owner will say yes you do nitce the power difference on the 98 and even 95 octane fuels, Personally I never run it on E10, I tend to use 91 90% of the time, and about once every 2-3 months use a tank full of 98 or 95 depending on the prices at the time..it is very clear when that is in the tank the boost it gives..I am not saying E10 is bad..as many use it all the time and the engine is designed to run on it well..I am just one who prefers to use a better grade of fuel if possible..Hopefully as the prices are down and if the nutjobs do the right thing about COVID we will all be able to get out on the black stuff and enjoy a good long run again..miss getting out with the my lady enjoying our wonderful country

    Keep Safe Keep Well

    KAA

Cheers....The reality is the more refined the fuel is, the cleaner the burn....The cleaner the burn the less throttle ya need....Plus your engine and ya injectors will luv ya....

My girlfriend was working at a Toyota dealership when the Aurion was released,

She said that they (Toyota) gave 2 different power outputs for the Aurion, one for 91, and one for 98

Using 91 Octane the power was 200 killer wasps

Using 98 Octane it was 204 killer wasps

    Ya missing the point....

4 of ya killer wasps means nothing compared to the difference in price between 91 and 98....

95 and 98 is more refined and burns cleaner....In a lot of European country's ya can't even buy 91 (funny enough even when ya can still buy leaded fuel)

I will have to keep your results in mind as a benchmark.

My 13.5 year old Aurion with 218K on the odometer needs a lot more servicing to get better fuel economy. Getting all ready for an interstate trip later this year assuming QLD-NSW border will be open at that time. Oh what interesting times we are now in.

Who wants to go to mexico anyway??....😉

I have a 2011 Touring with 154,000 kms on it, I only put 98 premium petrol in it, and I keep the services up to it at the scheduled times.
I use the cruise control on the highways and consistently get about 7.6L/100kms on long trips (about 8.2L/100kms on the freeway during the 40min trip the Central Coast to Hornsby) and driving around the Coast it's about 9.0L/100kms and I'm very soft on the pedals. Car still takes off about the same speed as the other cars.
Very happy with my 8 year old Aurion.

I consistently can get 8.1 to 8.3/100klms on the highway, a/c c/c on and I don't hold anyone up if you know what I mean....😉

I totally agree. If you have a sympathetic right foot and drive gently, especially taking off, great economy can be had. The V6 has a beautiful, silky smooth nature to it and you don't need to bury your foot to get it going. Just a gentle tap and it's off. Let the torque do the rest.

Burying your foot in a TRD Aurion is waste of time anyway....If the traction control doesn't kick in, the torque steer is uncomfortable....

Wow, 1000klms..I doubt my car would get that as it sits now..but I will do as you have advised and see what happens. Thanks Campbeam for your opinion..

Also, I have tried using Caltex 98ron, but got worse results..strange. I thought it would have run leaner with 98..never mind, I don't bother with 98 anymore, and stick with 95ron all the time..

    Cheers

    Mike

Fuel economy has little to nothing to do with what type of fuel you use...That's a wallet problem ....The more bang you pay for the more bang you get for your buck....And modern day air conditioning uses next to nothing...

Simple fact of life...It's application of your foot that counts....

A higher horsepower well tuned car will always achieve better economy if you don't use all the horses....

A small horsepower car will drink a lot because ya pushing it....

It's the old story....I sold my V8 and now have a 4 cylinder that uses more fuel to get from point A to B....

I have found the actual Paint codes for the S and SL Paint Accents on the front and rear Bumper.

    SL = AP24

    S = AP25

Unique colours for the TRD Aurion,  and propriety of PPG Paints,  so you will need to find a panel beater that uses PPG Paints to mix it up.

    TRD#184 - 80,000 klm

I ended up taking it to a paint shop and they used one of them paint analysers.

Ordered paint pens according to the codes from BCS auto paints and they were fine.

Admittedly it was only for a couple of small stone chips so any small difference would be hard to notice.

Anybody running your trd on e10 fuel? can i share some experience? I realize  that will lost some pwer, but that is not the issue for me due to i just use the car travel to work. thanks.

Ya might want to rethink that...False economy...Consider...Less millage...Less power = increased throttle application...Dirty fuel injectors...Put your TRD performance car on the market and buy a corolla....

I heard that you need to provide proof of ownership of a TRD for them to even talk to you. Really ??

Vin no. and Rego no. I was after the silver/grey metallic colour of the grill surround and front spoiler....They got back to me about 3 days later and said it was 1D7 which turned out to be for the wheels and totally different....

The ex had more finesse with the accelerator than myself so could get better fuel economy which I could not match. Guess that I am too impatient to get up to the speed limit. .

Certainly have to agree about that trap of using the cruise control on hilly roads. I have learnt to override the cruise control with the foot on the accelerator.

Currently have 95 ULP plus some Fuel Doctor additive in the tank to help clean the fuel injectors and the fuel economy.

Personal choice....95 ULP is already a more refined fuel....

I never bother with cruise control. Seems unnatural to me.

Wifey informs me that she filled up with 98 this morning. Good for her. She's starting to get the message lol..

95 should be all fine for a standard Aurion...98 might be overkill...I'm no expert...Just try to avoid standard unleaded...

Mmm. That would definitely be around town, stopping and starting. I won't criticize your right foot application as I don't know you, but that figure is what my wife achieves during the course of her weekly commute. I know that it's a combination of traffic AND her right foot application. She hasn't the finesse of accelerator application that I do and so when it's my turn to drive it around town, I always achieve low 10's. She's too used to the Corolla where the 4 cylinder needs that right foot partially buried compared to the magnificent torque of the V6, which only requires the slightest dab to get it off the line. I can only explain it to her so many times. The rest is up to her I guess..

Similar with my wife's driving style, no finesse of accelerator application...Another trap that people do that effects economy is using cruise control when driving on hilly winding roads....
