  1. Hi I believe that the rav4 have an electric power steering. I have experienced it twice where the power steering did not operate when I started the car. This was definitely not the steering lock as the steering wheel turned as I drove forward but I had to hang on the steering wheel to turn. The only way to engage the electric power steering was to turn the ignition off and start the car again. I asked my Toyota service centre to check it out and was told that they saw some errors logged by the computer but they were not concerned as it must just be a " small computer error". I am however concerned that this may happen at speed. Have anyone perhaps experienced this before. Regards
  2. Thank you for the information. I will make sure I have some back up when hitting the sand. I assume the diff lock on the Rav4 when manually enabled will operate up to 40km/h whether forward or reverse.
  3. Hi All I am in the same situation. I have been driving my Rav4 2007 model for the past 3 years and wish to join friends for a fishing day on the beach. I am no expert by believe the new Rav's drive train through their front wheels and if you stuck I can engage the diff-lock which is hydraulic connected. It will stay engaged up to 40km/h from where it disengages. I am uncertain what all this techno info mean and how it will work on sand. Does anyone have any experience to share or advice? I fitted some Cooper tyres which appear to be reasonable off road tyres. I saw numerous demonstrations on U-Tube with Rav4's on sand but I am uncertain whether they have permanent 4WD capability. Thanks H
