don't they have a diagnosis plug on these'surely if they have it would show the fault.My other son had a magna which continuously cut out after a new battery was fitted and ultra tune rescanned his computer and all was fixed. I don't know if this helps you just an Idea

Well all is well this car is back on the road.the biggest problem was the wreckers not being willing to check for part numbers so if a under dash wiring loom fire happens to any one else. FIRSTLY the part number is not the ones that are easily visible near the fuse and junction boxes,THIS PART number is found by reaching up under the dash above the brake pedals,it is TAPED to the loom there. Also by contacting peter kettle toyota and city holden here in south australia,I was able to find out that this loom was used from 7/1995 till7/1997 on csi camrys and on jm and jp apollo gs models. Under dash loom was the same on wagon and sedans. So anyway I found the loom myself,thankfully just wrecking toyotas and dry creek auto dismantlers allowed me to search for the numbers myself and I was successful at dry creek. I would have found it at the first wreckers if I had not been told the wrong place to look for the part numbers to start with. So if this happens to anyone else consult your toyota dealer and find the years the part number or part was used and in what form eg csi or csx vienta etc sometimes as in my case there will be crossover to gmh apollos Thanks for the input from other members cheers

thanks I will try the insurance again yes the lighter was damaged but it has melted the loom all the way to the fuse box.I dont know if the electricians have tested the computers the car was still running when my son shut it down because of the smoke. Toyota australia have joined the hunt for me even checked japan,but japan keep no stock of foreign made parts.This loom was made in oz,toyota tell me the sdv10 loom is not compatible and I have to find the right part number and as it shows as an NZ part number I have been emailing NZ wreckers the complete part number is 82131 yc250 there must be some of these in wrecks in oz.One wrecker wants 500 for a loom pay up and if it's the wrong part number I am out of pocket.I wonder if I could get a wreck and take out all the wiring and computers and change over.Other thoughts are maybe another loom will work just dont use all the conections my sons car has no ABS and no airbags.I feel RS about this I found the car and encouraged him to buy it

As a new member I am seeking information to help my son who is about to start uni. his pride and joy is a 1997 camry sxv10 wagon'beautiful car was reliable and affordable to run and insure.Problem arose the week before xmas when his cd player wouldn't work so I replaced the fuse all was great he off he went to band practise Less than a minute later I get a phone call help dad the cars on fire,thankfully when I got to him lots of smoke no flames Raa towed the vehicle to a repair centre and 100 bucks later problem diagnosed fused cigarette lighter and badly melted loom and fuse box what had happened was the back of the lighter came loose and shorted across the wires five weeks later still off the road as the car is an sxv10 made for export to New zealand not an sdv10 What I need to know is if the wiring looms are compatible it is a 03/97 build wagon A helpful toyota parts man from northpoint toyota here in adelaide was able to tell me that loom was used for the period 5/96 till 7/97 part number yc250 repair people have drawn blanks finding a part and have given up and left it to me a google search tonight gives me the impression they are the same car anyone who knows where one of thes is being wrecked or has the parts an email or any answers via the forum would be greatly appreciated cheers The real sting in the tail is insurance says it is mechanicle failure not fire so check your policies
