  1. Yesterday I was next to a Ford Focus XR5 at the lights, gave it some around the corner (2 lanes turning) just to see what they'd do, they gave it some. Ended up stopping at the next red light. A couple of trucks turned left into my lane, but there was still room to do some testing before getting to the speed limit. It was pretty close in 1st gear, actually pulled in front a little at redline, sloppy change into 2nd, still pretty close before I backed off as the back of the trucks got closer.

166kw in them apparently, not sure if it had any mods. Happy with the little standard Sportivo.

Ah, that's still street racing by definition, over the speed limit or not...

Back on topic, surely some well placed piping and a good enclosure limits heat issues with the CAI?

  2. They aren't the Speedy Cheetahs as they dont have the design on the outer lip of the rim.

I've been doing some searches and can't seem to find these in 4 studs, has anyone got a link or something for rims that look nearly identical and have a decent offset, without changing the accuracy of the speedo so I won't cop fines or defects or whatever, of the Sportivo?

    Thanks guys...

I have sent an email to one of my contacts for you today. Should have a reply in a couple of days.

  3. They look a lot like the Warwic Premium Mesh.

They come in 18x7.5, 18x8 and 18x9. Not sure of which offsets they come in or whether they are available in 4-stud, but a quick call to Tempe or one of the many other resellers would answer that.

In terms of 5-stud onto a 4-stud wheel, thats a case of square-peg-in-round-hole. You can re-drill wheels, but you wouldn't. Just buy a 4-stud wheel (specifically you want a 4x100) in the first place. The offsets available are most likely +45 or +40 in these wheels, or thereabouts. The standard offset on the Sportivo is +45. Very basically, the lower the offset, the further out the wheel will sit. ie slightly lower than standard = looks tougher than standard. Massively lower than standard = stupid looking and generally quite illegal.

If you ran an 18x7.5" +45 wheel for example, (bearing in mind that standard is 16x6" +45), you stick the outside of the wheel 19mm further out, and you get 19mm LESS clearance on the inside, ie closer to the strut. If you chose an 18x7.5 +40 wheel, they would be 24mm further out, and 14mm less clearance on the inside. Hope that helps a bit.

Then you have to choose a tyre, ie 215/35 R18, 215/40 R18 or 225/35 R18. So many choices...! As I understand it, larger wheels and tyres = slightly heavier steering, potentially slightly larger turning circle. Having your speedo accuracy change comes down to tyre choice, and getting your rolling circumference as close to standard as possible (standard is 620mm).

Shoot me a PM if you want some more help with this, as I did this kind of research before buying my 17s. Be mindful of the legalities of various aspects of changing wheels, like offset (which affects track), rim diameter and width etc. You will also need to consider whether your car is lowered, and any guard-rolling that may be required etc...

So much to think about...

  4. Car thieves don't do that. And they don't steal 2008 Corollas to "do jobs" (eg armed robberies etc) very often.

I meant what were they doing with paint and sand, heading to a work site? ; )

But yeah, malicious intent, not cool. Good thing you had insurance.

Ah, now I'm with you! A couple of disgruntled labourers, disenchanted with the lack of work recently because of the rain... :whistling:

    Hurray for insurance.

  5. Very sorry to hear about all that damage mate. However as previously stated, it smacks of someone who is not quite best mates with you. Car thieves don't do that. And they don't steal 2008 Corollas to "do jobs" (eg armed robberies etc) very often. Have you ****** someone off recently?!?!?!

I would suggest the insurance company will write it off.

Which leads me to think: next project.... :yahoo:

  6. Thanks mate! Raw times weren't of massive interest to me, I am more worried about getting as smooth as possible. Heel-toeing is an art, and it takes practice. Me = still perfecting it. I have only had the Sportivo at Wakefield once, so it was a good first hit out. Next week should be interesting, and my brother is coming too, just to add some spice!

  7. Will be down at Wakefield on the 1st of July. Lap times were a fairly tardy 1.19 or thereabouts. 1.19 seems like an eternity, especially when everything else there was marked, EVO, WRX, and even a ZR1... :o

  8. Bridgestone Silverwater

See the RE002 thread in the wheels/tyres section for prices

I am very well acquainted with the Old Pacific Highway, but I also enjoy the Blue Mountains and Putty Road...

Got a trip to Wakefield Park coming up though.

  9. 215/45 R17 in the RE002 fitted today. Got quoted everything from $195 to $235 (thru 14 different places), and even some eejit who wanted $299ea...

Out of interest, I got quoted everything from $265 to $340ea for the S001 in the same size.

Will be posting some impressions real soon.

  10. RE002 officially on the Bridgestone website. http://www.bridgestone.com.au/tyres/treads/RE002.aspx

Hmmm, I was holding off my purchase of the RE001s to get the RE002s instead. However, I am no worried that they will not be available in the 205/45R17 that I want.

On pricing, I was having a chat with one retailer last week, and he said he couldn't see any pricing in his system yet. When I asked whether they would be running out the RE001s he said they may do that, or, they may actually price the RE002s lower than the RE001s in order to get them into the market quickly - get them out there. He said availability would be from 1 June.

4 quotes in now on the RE002 in 215/45 R17, ranging from $230-$250 per corner. Same size RE001's are between $195-$220.

    This article:

indicates that 205/45 R17 will be available, hopefully in the correct load rating.

PS. I want to buy some of these tyres... :yahoo:
