  1. Oops, Pedders made a whoopsie.

Make sure your invoice reflects that you purchased the lowered spring (part no. 2358/2359) and then go back and get them to sort you out properly. Gun for some freebies or something too :whistling:

I chucked in a photo of what my car looked like on Pedders Sportsryder springs, bearing in mind that its also on 17s and therefore the gap to the guards is slightly smaller than on stockies (215/45 R17s with rolling diameter of 626 rather than 620). Hope this helps.

  2. Strut bars. Do you mean strut bracing? As opposed to sway bars (otherwise known as anti-roll bars)?

Whiteline make a front strut brace for the 05 Corolla. KSB603 is the part number (www.whiteline.com.au) I have one on my Sportivo (cost about $200), but I agree with and1, sway bars are far better BFYB in my opinion. I run a Whiteline HD rear sway bar as well.

  3. The CES Racing system should be 2.25" => upgraded to 2.5". After putting my '05 Sportivo on the dyno, I noticed biggest gains in lift (>6000rpm), but solid gains from about 3200rpm. Down low (ie under 2500rpm) my numbers are almost identical between standard and modified. BTW I have catback exhaust, headers and CAI from CES Racing.

  4. Maybe the camera is broken at the moment...? As I say, HWP won't target and ping people that the camera would be getting anyway. I don't know the location real well, so I'm not sure about which way the camera faces. Might go for a drive tomorrow me thinks...

If they were holding handheld devices, they were using Lidar. That means shooting cars at a distance.

  5. The stationary cameras operate from sensors in the road, called "piezo electronic detectors." You trip the first sensor by driving over it, then as you cross the second sensor the computer brain thingo calculates your real time speed. Too fast, and "FLASH!" And no, travelling really closely behind someone won't save you...Have a walk past a speed camera location and you will see the sensors embedded in the roadway.

HWP won't target a location already monitored by cameras. They wouldn't run the risk of having a driver cop two fines for the same offence on exactly the same location. They often run traps with a "chase car," so one unit can shoot the speed and the other goes after the offending motorist. The 2nd HWP car is often hidden from immediate view. Think Mona Vale Road as an example of this. Another reason for running multiple cars is if they were using the ANPR system, catching unregistered or stolen cars, as well as unlicenced/suspended/disqualified drivers.

As an aside, radar/lidar operates differently to the static cameras, allowing Police to "shoot" your speed from hundreds of metres away.

djc, there is a speed camera on King Georges Road, between Stoney Creek Road and Edgbaston Road. Is this the one you mean, near the primary school? If so, it will be focussing on the location outside the school, as it is a variable speed limit camera. There is also a red light camera at the intersection of King Georges Road and Stoney Creek Road. There is a safety camera at King Georges Rd and Moorefields Rd, but that's up the road at Roselands. All the camera sites are listed on the RTA website, even though I believe they shouldn't list them at all...

Everyone should be travelling at the limit or just under it anyway, so camera locations shouldn't need to be spoon fed to those drivers who can't keep to the limit. The good Lord gave us trackdays for a reason... I have no dramas with HWP running speed traps for the drivers who slow down for cameras (usually to 10km/h under the limit, very annoying) and then speed up again (back over the limit, also annoying). Stupid enough to get caught = stupid enough to have to deal with the consequences. And yes, I've been caught once before by a camera. And this business of warning everyone where HWP are working at...that's just strange. Personally, I don't have much time for people who are keen on helping others avoid punishment for breaking the law. But that's just me...

  6. Bit confused... If you were keeping a safe distance (ie a distance great enough to stop safely in an emergency), and driving safely, how did you manage to rear-end your mate? You don't need to be going fast to leave tyre marks on the road, but hopefully ABS prevented your brakes from locking up on maximum brake pedal pressure, hence no "skid" marks. ABS means longer stopping distances but allows you the ability to steer around objects, or so the system is supposed to work...:(

As you say, most important thing is that no-one was injured. Cars can be repaired, but death is kinda final... You will learn and improve from the experience, and in a while this will be nothing but a bad memory!

Bring on more driving and modding...

  7. Ooops...sounds like an over 45 speeding ticket and resulting 6 month suspension....naughty naughty... :whistling:

Sad to see a nice ZZE123 spending an extended period under covers...:(

Hopefully 6 months will fly by.

  8. Whoa whoa whoa PetroDola...

Relax buddy. Just a couple of people's opinions there. This a public forum, after all. Don't like the forum, then perhaps you do need to cruise back to the Skyline crowd you proudly boast of. Everyone has an opinion, and there's no need to go crazy and insulting if someone doesn't agree with you.

TIme to go back to watching the footy...
