  1. Don't think about Korean car anyway. http://www.howsafeisyourcar.com.au/ take a look their result

I will look at Mazda 3, Ford Focus, Nissan Tida, Golf, C4 & 307. Corolla is great car for day to day driving.

(I don't think he is after corolla sportivo) Otherwise, he won't compare with those cars.

Yeah agreed. On the off chance he did want a Sportivo they can be picked up 2nd hand some of them for $20,000 - $24,000 now with relatively low k's.

The Germans and Japanese have been the two driving forces in car manufacturing. Safety, performance etc etc. The majority of the German cars are pretty expensive to service as are parts, but by *** they are reliable many of them.

in that case, go for VW, same price brand new, no kays :D, as far as parts, atleast yu wont have to buy gaskets

Man, if you buy your Toyota filter from dealer, you can ask the gasket for free. If you do your services with them, it cost you less than $2 anyway. No big deal.

  2. how does removing the plastic cosmetic cover increase heat and noise?? It extends the life of the coilpacks as they can actually get some airflow with the ****ty cover removed.

The catch can helps even in normal driving as it removes/reduces the amount of oil vapour from the PCV outlet which normally gets routed back into the intake and gunks up your inlet and induces knock when combusted.

Thx. Was thinking the cover will reduce the noise & less heat for the bonnet. (Will remove the cover shortly haha).

  3. we put one on MAP81's car, make sure the catch can is a baffled type, the empty types aren't as effective. We had to customise the one on Marks car as it wasn't baffled to start with:

Off topic, Your engine bay looks great. More heat & noise without engine cover :P Will police say anything about it.

  4. well I try to exlain you :D

you must remove the tubes that goes from head to the manifolds, and between insert the OCT.

This block the oil and it does not allow it to re-enter in the manifolds.

Any Picture or DIY steps? Is it for eyes or really useful for daily driving. (not track day)

  5. Warning from C One regarding CF bonnet.

    http://www.c-one.co.jp/C-ONEPARTS/caution_1.html

    Translation from worldlingo as:

    < Concerning bonnet product >

This product has produced travelling on the general public road with legal speed as prerequisite. When high-speed travelling such as circuit travelling is done, please install the bonnet pin. (At the time of bonnet pin installing, purchase of separate other companies product necessary it is.)

The duct attaching product in order as much as possible not to set the duct on top of the electrical type part, as you consider, belonging, has tried the inner cover to prevent the invasion of the water of the minimum. However as for the inner cover at the time of sport travelling removing, in order to be able to release heat the engine, because it is removal and re-installation system, strictly there are times when some water enters in the time of inner cover installation. When leaking water and waterproofing are preferred, removal and re-installation becomes impossible, but please administer disposal such as the filler by the seal medicine.

The carbon bonnet surface starts being attached when it continues to use when nothing it is done, with aged deterioration sooner or later it becomes cloudy the plate. Beautifully to use we request 1) and 2) each correspondence below in order to receive.

  6. Anyone know a good quality, well priced worker (for colour coding 2 rear mudflaps) closer to the city / north shore of sydney? (moorebank is quite a looooong drive and it would mean going there twice ... i would prefer to pay a bit more and go down the road :)

I did my paint job close to my home. It was ***** job.:angry::angry: Even that is far away, but every member looks love their job. I suggests you get there mate. Even you pay for top price, no mean that guy can do the top job like they did. I am so angry myself didn't get there in the first place. Maybe bring my car next year ask them repaint. <_<

  7. i really wish toyota is reading this thread so they can get their act together

I work for Chatswood Toyota as a mechanic...

Seen all good responses from us so far so I have nothing to worry about :) :) :) ...

Any others you could suggest us to visit plz? And yes, chatswood was not bad. But the parts & services are a bit pricy.

  8. Yeah it me some time to get used to the clutch in my sportivo too. Wearing work boots would be a pain.

If you think that's bad though, try wearing these while driving:

    New-Rock-boots.jpg

Lol...went to a Nine Inch Nails concert with mates and I decided I would drive. Big mistake haha.

Ha ha...You sure get great feeling with those shoe mate...

This is my first car, what I feel is easy to drive with a pair of Converse. I just can't drive with other kind of shoe. Shoe must be thin or no feeling. ;)

  9. Hi all,

Just wondering if it's just us that is unlucky or if it's a common thing...

We bought a brand new 2006 ascent station wagon. Runs great cept for the air con light. At first it never worked, you'd turn the aircon on and the light would just blink and it would never get cold. After a few 100kms it started to work more frequently. Took it back to Toyota at 1000kms and they could not reproduce the problem

1500kms i got fed up and took it back to toyota again. This time they claimed they spent some time turning it off and on and it worked for them. They checked that the gas was topped up and nothing was leaking. So fine, drove it home and guess what? stopped working 1/2 way home

Mind you all this happened in the middle of winter so have not used the aircon much at all. Now that the weather is getting warmer we are using the aircon more and more and it seems to only work 50% of the time. Usually this is the case: Turn it on first time and it works. Run around, stop the engine. Turn it back on and the aircon light will blink.

So what do I do now? My wife says, make it blink then drive it to Toyota. The problem is that Toyota will only look at it during the week and not the weekend which means we have to take time off bla bla... I mean this will be the 3rd time we take it in complaining of the same problem, normally as a service organisation, would you not take note?? We are also thinking of taking it to another dealer...

What are your thoughts? any advice?

    Cheers,

    Toby_the_Van

where r u? I knew Sydney City Toyota open on Sat. But you will have to make a booking. You can find out a list of services center from Toyota site or yellopages. Call them out if you want to get it fix.

  10. enjoy it mate.

hehe, thanks, but the question that's been bouncing around in my head is that ive heard conflicting reports.

they say if i drive it hard, the engine will get thrashed very easily permanently

whilst ive heard again that if i baby the engine, it will drive like a granny car for the rest of it's life.

    So which one's true?

Also, is it worth changing the oil at the 1500k service? and if so, do i go for the nice synthetic stuff, or just some plain mineral oil?

I think no big deal...Manual said take it easy, don't push...Hey, but is Toyota Engine, so I pushed close to redline sometime when break in...Of course after warm up.

I did my first oil change at 1000K at Toyota...I just want to change that is it.

  11. hahha i get that all the time on my rolla

    both doors!!

it makes me think back in the primary skool days.. zapping each other :D

i never got it in my bro's euro...

probably.. nowadays all cars have static strip installed already!

Japanese Runx have that installed...But not the AU version

  12. Remember our cars are VVTi - intelligent etc...

You drive slow, the ecu will 'train' itself that way. When you want to hump it power wise it won't be as responsive.

So I guess we have to decide whether we want better fuel economy or response in the end.

That is why sometime (on highway) I push hard...(but most of time change gear at 3000)...worry become slow rolla!
