  1. I bought my 2010 Corolla on the far east of Melbourne and I live in the far West. I have a postcard from the original dealer offering me a capped price 10k service for $130. The local dealer is too busy to return calls (all Service staff are on the phone) despite calling them twice and their website mentions a service for $169.99 (no mention of any model). So I am wondering if I would get the same price from the local dealer when they get off the phones.
  2. Yes, my Camry is also a 2005 Altise like yours. Wow, I looked up Dynamat and discovered there is a whole world of car audio perfectionists out there. :) Ta.
  3. Thanks, some good ideas there too. Tilting down the mirror briefly while in reverse is handy in the car park I use daily.
  4. I just asked a slightly similar question in the Corolla forum. My 2010 Corolla has electric folding mirrors that can be folded by pushing a recessed switch, which isn't easy to find unless you look for it. Unless your car park has good lighting, this switch is hard to see at night. It is a flat rectangle flush with the panel and is as wide as my pinky, so not exactly positioned to be used often. Many overseas cars fold back the mirror housing when switched off, as this also allows people to walk past without bumping them. (The idea of a visual confirmation of locking is also good). While I am not an electrician, my amateur radio background tells me that a simple relay would do the job of pushing that button when the car is switched off. For anyone who doesn't know what a relay does, think of an electromagnet that pulls a lever to complete a circuit. You can have a relay that only makes the circuit while you hold down a button (power it), or the opposite, where the circuit is always on until you power the relay - like a garage door toggle switch. But I don't know enough to say whether the Toyotas can do this. Toyota's product managers would have made a conscious decision not to supply this, perhaps to save a buck, or perhaps to make it a future option. I found a random relay here: Alibaba - explore for your particular model.
  5. I presume this means electrical grounding of the radio? Dutchie, I don't know. The Ascent is unlikely to have such a clever feature. When I put the radio on loud when on the freeway, it is still loud when I park the car. But good thinking, 99.
  6. Firstly, Im not quite sure what you're trying to say. Because from what im reading, you're saying car speed distorts your speakers? I'm not sure either, hence I am asking. :) My guess is some kind of harmonic effect, e.g. Low speed = road noise doesn't mix with bass notes, so no problem 100 km/h = road noise mixes with bass notes, which sound distorted. Turn off radio and the rumble disappears, i.e. road noise alone doesn't have that rumble.
  7. My 2010 ZRE has the fold-back mirrors, but I think it's crazy to switch them manually. What would I expect to pay for someone to fit a relay that would fold them back when the power is switched off? I believe a few European cars do this.
  8. I moved down in size from a Camry to a Corolla 2010 ZRE and notice an annoying low frequency road noise at freeway speeds. It seems to be present when the music is playing rock, i.e. only when the drums are are playing. Put another way, the drums sound a little distorted but only when at 100km/h. What am I describing? Is it a lousy set of speakers compared to the Camry? Do I need better sound deadening?
  9. It is a aspheric type rear view mirror which increases the curvature of the mirror past the black line which assists in eliminating blind spots. Thanks, I'm hearing that several other brands also have it. It makes sense, but try as hard as I may, the curvature past the line must be very subtle, as I can't see it. Anyway, it's a nice touch.
  10. Today I noticed a black line in the driver's side mirror of my 2010 Ascent hatch ZRE. It is about 3 cm from the right end and goes vertically all the way from top to bottom. It is on the inside and can't be felt by touching the mirror. I looked at a 2009 Ascent in a car park and its mirror doesn't have this. I don't see any difference in the reflected image on the smaller end, so it's not like it's a different type of mirror. The manual doesn't mention this but that line looks like it is meant to be there. What is its purpose?
