  1. 6" or 6.5" will fit fine.

I suggest making a mount for the speakers out of 8mm MDF so you have a solid sound and no rattles. Use the old stock speakers as a template.

Depending on how much you wanna spend on In-Car Entertainment (ICE) will dictate what sort of setup you get.

Personally , I would go 6.5" Splits in the front and 6.5" coax in back.

Do you have a budget for your setup. What do you want out it? Just an improvement on stock or something thumpin?

    Let us know :)

I put a new head unit in the vehicle and it is now giving me "DC Error"......been told by Alpine is is to do with either speakers blown or shorting out...it was working fine......then suddenly not...so just looking at replacing the speaker that is faulty with a new pair and not spending a bomb....thank you for the help :)

  2. I purchased an Alpine headunit and pocket for my 2003 Toyota Echo. Everything on the bottom half went together relatively ok (save for some slight scratches on the trim thanks to my clumsiness), but I seem to be having trouble putting the panel that holds the aircon switches back in. I have a feeling something doesn't line up, as after reassembly the aircon outlet and temp rotary knobs are stiffer than before to operate whilst the centre one is fine. I had a look at Ozecho but can't seem to find anything.

Any offers of help would be grealy appreciated. I'm in Melbourne.

I had the same trouble onto the Corolla and I guess it's similar.......depends how it clips together or does it screw...if screws try undoing all of them and then doing them up in sequence as one or more of them may have more tension on than the other....if clips together make sure everything behind the panel is flush with the dash before attempting it clip back in...just my two cents worth :)

  3. ok, i have played around with power windows a bit and the easiest option for you would be to get the front only ones out of an accent, you will need switches from both sides motors from both sides and the complete door wiring loom for both sides, the spare plug you are seeing is it up next to the one that goes to the electric mirror? its for an extra tweeter speaker. the door looms are completely different in manual and elec models.

So when you get all of it you will have to get it from a japanese model and make sure it is a non facelift like yours, facelifts have all auto up+down and prefacelift have only drivers auto up+down, but they are not interchangeable.

when it comes to rears they have different motors for different body shapes but the fronts in the japanese built ones they interchange

just remember prefacelift and facelift are different!

you will have a hole where your window winder was too but just mount a tweeter over it!

what colour is your interior trim?

as for cruise control, aftermarket..... wow sight and sound do a few kits and install.

To get the window winder off grab a chux wipe fold it a couple of times and slide the edge of it between the winder and the plastic ring behind it and pull it around and around until it grabs the edge of the clip and it will pull it off,

Well I have the lovely beige interior, plan is to make a lot more of it either black or dark grey.....not sure how hard it is to redo the carpets etc.....just with the tinted windows thinking of getting the beige will look a bit daggy so that will get the hole covered....a tweeter speaker so that is what goes in the area behind the wing mirror.....may have to get one of those and put it there....

Will try out the idea with the chux.....did try that...has to been an easier way thou lol.....

I thought as much as with the power windows....that at least the plug for the wiring loom should be there etc....will get the door trim off and look into....

With the cruise, could do aftermarket but I think the Corolla is not drive by wire is it.....all computerised and would want to try to use the Toyota stalk...my experience with Toyota is they pretty much install it but leave off the switch and maybe one other component....

I am just about to do the fog lights but the last wally owner cut the end of the plugs off so it means I have to find the plugs, am planning to visit wreckers on that score....

  4. what body shape is your car and southafrican or japanese built?

Japan Spec Sedan.....sorry didn't include those details earlier....managed to sort of get the door trim off, just forgotten how to get the current window winder off. There is a spare connector there so am assuming that has to do with the power windows....

The reason I figure cruise control should almost be installed is that most modern cars are computerised so things like actuator arms and stuff like that should not longer be required with the cruise control....

  5. Hiya Folk,

Want to add power windows and cruise control to my 2003 Corolla Ascent....pretty certain the wiring should already be there...should be simple process of plugging all the required bits in and away we right????

Well would help if knew apart from the power window motors and switches what else I need.....heard regarding cruise control you can just plug in the stalk and it works.....but really can it be that simple or am I going down a path that is a world of pain..??

  6. can someone send me the toyota corolla manual to install fog lights using a stalk i got the foggies installed already all i need to do now is to install the OEM stalk switch and wat kind of relay do i use cuz went to toyota for a relay and it was $90 so i decided to get it from somewhere else im thinking supercheap auto but i dont know what kind of relay i have to buy thanks. pls send the manual to my email carlo.vargas@live.com.au

Was a post someplace on here about this.....it's really easy to install the stalk...just remove the shroud around the steering wheel....lock the wheel one way remove the screw directly behind the steering wheel....lock it the other way...same deal...couple underneath....the wiring should already be there...new stalk clips in easily......as for relay....narva is the one I used....slots directly into the relay plugs behind the flip out tray on drivers side.....but am guessing you found the other article and you have it done by now....

  7. One thing I know about the Corolla 2003 is that there were two places of manufacture for it....one is Japan and the other was South Africa....not sure if this applies to the 2000 model or not but with the brakes on the South Africa build you need to replace the pads, replace the rotors scenario but not with the Japan build....has to do with the brand of pad being Lucas.....pretty aggressive apparently.....if this is wrong info please feel free to correct me....

  8. Brought the unit.....but having a dog of a time trying to find a wiring harness adaptor for it now....anyone got any ideas.....tried what Supercheap gave me....it didn't fit.....so wondering what next....thought there would be a quick connect adaptor these days.....I don't want to have to mod one...thanks for any tips folks..

  9. Hi,

Need to install a bluetooth handsfree kit.....decided against the visor clip on types.....too easy to forget and too easy to steal....so decided on an in dash type....thinking of parrot but don't like the little lcd that comes with....so thinking now on a head unit.....not too sure on which Corolla models comes with bluetooth....thinking it's only the 2011 model.....if so wonder what the replacement unit is worth and can I mod it to fit in a 2003 Corolla or am I better off and is it less expensive to simply buy a single din after market unit and go with that??? Also I am looking for a wired mic and not in dash one if possible....thank you for your input....

Update - found a second hand Alpine CDE-103BT for $260 - who thinks should jump at it - cheap way out of the problem I think.......

  11. Wired up my fog lights and got the OEM stalk for about $120 from a wreckers in Melbourne - works 100% - only thing is the last owner has cut off the connecters for the foglights and I can't find where to get them anywhere. My only option is the auto electrician for $80 and I thought it was going to be easy doh!!

  12. Thanks SuperDave, don't any track stuff, probably end up not doing it, but do a lot of winding country road driving with a lot of braking..one of the pads realy got hot..heard ceramic is better for your rotors as well...going to upgrade the camber bushing, shocks and possibly springs soon....where's a good place to get the full ceramic Endless pads in AU if you know????? Or am I be misguided in believing that a Corolla can be a performance road vehicle with good cornering etc......thanks again....

  13. Hi Folks,

Newbie here so sorry if this question may of been covered before. I have a 2003 Corolla and need some help on finding cheapish ceramic pads for the stock calipers and rotors, currently running Bendix which are ok but when doing some heavy cornering today they almost overheated on one side. Does anyone know where in Melbourne I could get say a set of Endless pads for it and someone who could fit them cheaply please.

    Thanks,

    Tina
