I need advice!! I have an '88 4runner 4X4, It's a working vehicle on the farm, :D Looks a little rough around the edges but is indestructible and has a heart of gold. (what 4runner hasn't! ;) ) Body YN63, chassis LN61, engine 4Y-2.2lt-electronic spark/carbie. I know, they don't match! <_< Trouble is the engine is getting tired and needs to be retired :( (terrible fuel consptn, overheating extra low comp No 2 etc etc and sorely in need of replacement Im thinking 4 cyl around 2.8lt or so. EFI shouldn't be a problem, Diesel could be a possibility. Need a little more grunt and BETTER fuel numbers I'm not after a radical transplant like 350 chevy or Holden 3.8lt V6 What other engines will fit? As close to drop in as possible i.e. Fits in the existing space, fits to existing 4X4 gearbox, not much engineering to engine mounts, etc
