  1. Stock is 24mm for the front, so it probably is thick enough. The stock rear is 14mm and the Whiteline is 18mm. So if you wanted a beefy front swaybar, bump it to 26mm or 28mm. But as I said probably not necessary. Trust me when I say this, the rear swaybar is the best value for money suspension mod I can recommend.

Cool, then i'll be doing that first then...

maybe even make the rear bars too... hmmm...

  2. You will have to fab up a front sway bar if you want one and while you're at it, make me one. :) You can buy the strut braces and rear sway bars.

fabbing up a front sway bar will be a small portion of urine mate...

will keep posted on that fer sure

    how thick ya reckon?

  3. I think that is a great idea, as long as you can do all the work yourself (and by the sound of it, you can) it is a good option.

Pick up a low (e.g under 200k) engine, freshen up if you like (or dont, depends how much boost/how long you want it to last).

The conversion isnt expensive, its just finding parts can be difficult... I think all up it cost me ~2000 for the orig. 5SFTE conversion.... but TBH set aside the 300 or so for a HD clutch, will be worth the extra expense, trust me.

Sweet, thanks man, that appears to be a much better and more economically viable option for me to take...

although i think i'd best beef up the rear sway bar, add a front strut brace and convert rear drums to disc first eh...

  4. mick.wheels - thanks for the fast reply :)

i only just read your 5sfe -> 5sfte conversion 10 minutes ago... very, very nice

i'm thinking that it may be my best option to try and find a low km 5sfe engine to go straight back in with no hitches...

then do your turbo conversion... how difficult was it? how long did it take? how much did it cost (roughly)?

i'm a boilermaker myself, so i'm no stranger to tools...

i can only speculate as to how much a mechanic would charge me to install a turbo!

    thoughts?

    Cheers...

    Craig.

  5. Hey again people,

I think it's time for a new engine, the current one has racked up 500,000k's and it's lost most of it's 'zip'

The vehicle is a 1993 SDV10 Camry Executive Wagon, 5 speed.

Being a 5s-fe, the word 'zip' is used sparingly.

I read in another post here that i can throw in a v6 from another toyota model, but i can't remember which...

I know for sure that i could put in a 3s-gte, but if it's possible i'd rather the torque from the V6.

Has anyone performed this operation before? or had someone do it for them? or know someone that has?

is it worth it? or should i just buy a new car? the thing only cost me 2 grand in the first place...

    Cheers fer any replies...

    Craig.

  6. drivers not indicating OUT of a roundabout.

drivers who do 95 in a 100 zone, come to an overtaking lane then sit on 105, then merge back and go back to 95. AAAAAARGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!

oh and karen on my gps keeps telling me to drive into my kitchen for some reason... maybe i should try bill shatner?

  7. Hello, I'd like your opinions on which vehicle (old or new, custom or standard) affords the highest power to weight ratio, yet retains the lowest overall price tag (on the road - insuring too).

Let your minds flow people! But keep it registerable please? this will be the basis for a new addition to my garage (carport).

I'm sure i don't know a quarter of what some people here do, so that's why i'm asking.

  8. Hello again, i'm guessing that with 45 or so views on this post that not many people have done this.

FYI, I have now successfully installed my "driving lamps". A little trial and error and about 3 hours is all it took, and i saved myself a $100 auto-electrician bill.

For future reference, the 'high beam active circuit' wire that i patched into was the 'RED WITH BLUE STRIPE' wire on the centre pin of the left hand 'low beam headlight (?)' bulb adaptor. (not the high beam bulb adaptor as i first thought - i hate desoldering!)

The lamps are 100W each, from SCA, and are an excellent addition to my night-driving experience. $50 a pair.

I didn't bother installing the in-cockpit on/off switch either, rather, just using the main high-beam flasher handle on the steering column.

    Anyway, happy travels to you...

  9. Hi,

I have the same type of car. Frankly, I find it no big deal to press the button to lock all four doors if I am in a precarious sitution (ie getting in my car in an empty train station carpark at 11pm).

I don't think you can customise any automatic hi-jack locking function. I'm not even sure if Australian Lexus models have that feature?

It is definitely common in the US, where crime is substantially higher in some (urban metro) areas than Australia, in general.

Alternatively, carry a gun in the glovebox to scare of any perps, and never, ever stop at the lights - just do a rolling slow down.

I used to live in the Bronx (New York) for 10 years as a homicide detective, before living in Jo'bury (South Africa) for 5 years as a security consultant.

Martinj, you sound like a fairly well travelled bloke.

i agree that its not hard to press the internal central locking button before driving off. how about a car that drives itself? or wipes ur butt? j/k...

but, i dont think its legal to carry a gun in a glove box in australia? maybe if you have a license for a handgun (very difficult to aquire without proper reasons/excuses) and inside 15 locked boxes that are pressure welded to your car frame, keeping the ammo 15km away, as well as having it dis-assembled. By the time an assailant is opening your car door it'll be too late. OK, some of that is not true, but its damn close, and aussie firearm laws are a freakin JOKE.

  10. Hey guys, i purchased a set of new driving lights because i do alot of highway travelling.

I'm having trouble finding the high beam active circuit. Would anyone have already gone through this installation maybe provide me a little help?

What would be a huge bonus is if someone can point me to and Aussie 93 Camry wiring diagram... been looking for weeks now on the net but nothing.

I may have to buy a full manual, or just take it to an auto-electrician ( me being an electronics buff - haa! )

Thanks for any help or comments of any kind, in advance...

    Craig.
