  1. Sorta on the same topic....

Would it be illegal to have lighting underneath the car that is connected to the drivers door switch...

To have the effect that they would come on only when the drivers door is opened. (just to be different)

I have read through what I believe is the Government documents online and say that you can have under car lighting any colour as long as the car is stationary.. anyone know if this is correct?

  2. Good thing the Aurions have a full sized spare with same rims and tyres as the other 4 wheels as factory standard. I never liked space saver tyres. WTF is up with car manufacturers skimping on something like that?

Unless you buy a TRD. Then you get a spacesaver.

 I genuinely did not know that. That sucks more than a Dyson.

Sorta off topic Sorta on topic...

Went and had a look at one of those diesel ford fiesta's.... guess what they give you standard...

No wrong not a full size spare..

Nope again... not even a spacesaver..

They include as standard..... a repair kit.... what happens if you totally stuff the tyre or rim up and could drive on a spare..

Salesperson did tell me that they can supply a spacesaver for a price..

Sorry about the off topic thing..

  3. This is what I hate about so many modern day "driver assist" technologies. If the car was built right in the first place then most of these "aids" would become redundant.

And don't get me started on driver's who rely on these "aids"

    I certainly agree

Hmm.... I kinda like the idea of ABS, VSC, TC, SRS etc being there in the background as backup in case I need extra help in an emergency situation.....

I mean you obviously don't RELY on these saving your ar$e, but it's good to have just in case.

I wouldn't want cars to be built like the holden kingswood where you got no modern driver assist technologies whatsoever. A person in one of those in a crash is like a soft boiled egg in a metal box that got dropped. The box may or may not have some damage, but if you look inside, what used to be an egg is now a gooey splattered, mangled mess.

Yeah, nah. Gimme all the gizmos and do-hickeys and driver assist technolomologies ya got! :P

Then what happens to the skill of driving?

Nothing, everybody on the road should learn how to drive properly. The point is, these are driving AIDS, not Autopilots. These technologies should be in place not so much to save the hoon driver who's being an absolute turkey on th roads, but the poor schmuck who's staring down the barrel of being a road fatality statistic through no fault of their own..

If the poor schmuck's vehicle has ABS, TC, VSC etc, he/she'd have a better chance (however slim it may be) of getting out of a situation that's going to get very very bad very very very quickly.

Thats a good point. I had in my head that my sister has a subaru liberty that has traction control..... 2.5L 4Cyl all wheel drive that has traction control.. Its those sort of decisions that make me shake my head... so I turn it off everytime i drive it.

I would turn it off in the Aurion more if I didn't have to do the brake pumping action

People will take corners faster then they usually would, thinking that this stuff is going to sort it out (or thinking that they are Lewis Hamilton) and save them... which it will.. 9 times out of 10.

Don't get me wrong though, they do help with the few people that put their car sideways after a light drizzle of rain but I certainly don't want to be driving next to that person who loses it that easily/pushes the car to lose it.

SRS isn't really an assist though is it? more of a necessity on all modern cars.

  5. I've also made the enquiries (at a different exhaust shop) and have had no response like that. Infact the mechanic didn't say anything about pressures or weight which made me think that there wasn't much change if any.

Did you get a quote for how much it would cost? I got just over a grand for twin mufflers and resonator removal + labour (I haven't had the exhaust done at this point of time)

  6. Something that would be nice would be to have instant fuel economy reading.

Have a look at the photos of the combination meter ... this is included.

    That would be good...

With now 204kW we shouldn't technically see any going around with P plates on them... in queensland atleast.

  7. I really like the look of the Subaru Impreza that has the WRX badge in the grille.

Am yet to complete but I bought a "TRD Sportivo" badge and am going to put that on the front.

Of course I will remove the TRD part of the badge..

    Thoughts... Opinions?

    Absolutely nothing wrong.

    1. You're not trying to mislead others into thinking that your car is something that it's not

    2. Your car isn't plastered with badges (i hope)

    3. Do what you want. It's your car!

Yeah well I figured seeing as it is a sportivo and theres technically only one badge on the car that says sportivo that I would put another one on the front.

I don't see anything wrong with putting TRD badges on your car.... as said in point 3... "Do what you want. It's your car!" (couldn't have said it better)

  8. I reckon it will look tacky. Would have to be one or the other and if using multiple LED's, integrated into the existing lens. Otherwise it will fall into the same category as those that put SMD strips on the front of their car trying to copy Audi's. Saw a Commodore the other day that just had to take that one step further and line the whole lower grill. The car had a crappy grin.

And once you see something like that, it's not hard to group everyone with LED strips stuck to the front of their car (non-factory) into the same group.

Thats why I made sure mine didn't make it look like its "grinning"

  9. I've done quite a few drives between Brisbane and Gladstone (550Km) and I have found that driving in "S" Mode is more fuel economic than "D".

I've had the car down to around 7.6L/100 driving in D and 7.2L/100 Driving in S. Both times there was roughly the same weight in the car and same time of day.

Could this be helped by dropping it down 2 gears or so before a hill or mountain, as apposed to letting the car change down when it can't quite keep the pace up?

  10. I agree with DJKOR that they do not aid in visibility during the day. Mine are hard to see in the day but you know that they are on.

A main argue point that i have is that countless times I have had other vehicles drop down 10 or more Kph under the speed limit, probably thinking that I drive an undercover cop car. When i have my day lights on it never happens. In saying this it makes for a much quicker journey wherever I drive as I don't have nervous people in front thinking they will get a fine for doing the speed limit.

So i still maintain that yes they do nothing for safety and depending where you put them they look good in your own opinion. (which is the only one you need to listen to)

  11. ----------

Why a relay kit? I would think these are so low power just an inline fuse 10 amp?, would be the go.

    Spied

Only reason is cos i'm young and had no idea what to do when I did it. Asked a mate to help me and he had done something similar.

Wish I had found this forum before doing it.

  12. I bought 2 led strips ($1.50) off ebay and a relay kit ($14.95) also from ebay.

I put the strips following the contour of the black trim just above the fog light. they go horizontal from outside in and then slope downwards towards the middle.

This is connected straight to the battery at present and I have a master switch located in the indent next to your leg when driving. This allows me to leave them on when the car is off. (I am still yet to connect it to a source that turns off when the car is off e.g. cigarette lighter)

Not to sure how helpful this will be but it is certainly a cheap way of doing it.

I simply attatched the lights with strong double sided tape and for 4 months now they havn't moved at all.

Not the brightest thing during the day but they are noticeable. look good at night.

It has given the car a very distinct look and is a constant head turner around town.

(Will attach photo if people would like)
