  1. How is the clutch/clutch fluid? and any chance of oil getting into the clutch when the oils were changed.

    My 97 hilux (338 000 kms) has a worn clutch and I have to keep in a low gear uphills when I have a big load on the tray.

  2. A common problem with the 2.4 hilux is the exhaust manifold cracking.

    Many see this as an opportunity to fit extractors and gain a small power increase.

    My 97 hilux has done 338 000 kms and is super reliable , so why change to less reliability with a different engine?

    A lot has happened , my $50 1993 camry was totalled by an out of control 4wd and insurance paid $3013 , so i bought a 96 corolla that has nice csa wheels for $2000.

  4. Update!

    The camry was parked and a skilled driver lost control and hit it head on , the front guards were into the doors.

    Insurance wrote it off as a total loss.

    So i bought a 1996 corolla csi hatchback and still have money left.

    Well , we will never know the actual cause of the idle problem.

  5. Update!

    My mechanic is adamant that this is an ECU fault.

    So he has tried replacing the ECU with one from the wreckers.

    Only problem is , it seems to be VIN locked and he is trying to unlock it with the remote key.

    The only other thing that i didn't mention is that the brake master cylinder was replaced about 7 weeks ago after a complete brake failure and maybe this has upset the ECU.

    This 2200 camry has done 370 000 kms so it might go to the wreckers.

    But my son wants to get it fixed and keep it.

  6. Lowering the 86 causes excessive wear on the tail shaft joints , so be prepared to replace them often.

    Also with the stock height it is already difficult to avoid scraping on driveways , so when lowered a few spare plastic front bumpers would be use full.

  7. Thanks! , my son has taken the car , so when he brings it back i can try cleaning the IACV.

    I dont think it's a problem with the throttle body because the car drives fine , just splutters and stalls on idle.

  8. The problem is not new and has been intermittent for about 6 months.

    When it happens , it's a rough lumpy/stalling idle with black smoke and guzzling fuel after warm up.

    Almost as if auto choke comes on and running rich.

    To stop the stalling i just turn aircon on.

    My mechanic has looked at it twice and replaced the spark plugs/oil/filters and said just drive it harder.

    Well i tried to drive it hard and it's in a camry , so no fun in that.

    Anyway some gen6 celica owners might have experience with this problem.

    It has me and my mechanic stumped.
