  1. I changed my gear oil @ 40.000 service at toyota( only cost me less than $60 by using genuine product according to the service advisor) I requested to changed it just simply because i always complain to them about crunchy gear box. All this while i thought i am the only one that keep compaining about the bloody hard shift gear box. Guess what...........It makes no much different but seems to smoothen out a bit. I seriously think that this gear box really built for high rev ( seems easy to shift on high rev).

p/s very good topic to bring up !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok I expect EVERYONE (including me :P) to come to the cruise/meet next month that Jeremy has kindly prepared for us :D:D:D ONYA MATE!

:yahoo::yahoo::yahoo: lets make it happen pple

  4. hope this will help. I just got my car back this afternoon from toyota. They replaced a new timing belt tensioner and the tapping noise that i had before all gone. Noise does travel from one side to another especially there are lots of metal parts in the surrounding area

    *timing chain

Not timing chain. It is called 'tensioner'-according to the mechanic from toyota. It looks like a small suspension that attached to the engine. It is situated some where around the power brake fluid reservoir or to be exact is behind the drive belt. You can ask toyota mechanic for more details. I just tell everyone what i know

  6. i loosened the nut as in anti-clockwise i think thats right let me know also

I went for clockwise ( ie tighten up the rod ) for only half turn. I must admit is much better then before. I wouldnt say i did it right but i am quite happy with that. I guess every car is different ( if you clutch peddle is lower than recomended height, the loose up the screw so that the peddle comes out higher whereas in my case after i did the half turn on clockwise direction the height just sits right on the recomended height) Probably you should go for loosen up the rod ( that is anticlockwise direction) first and see whether there is any different. I hope this will help

  7. Not many, maybe 1 to 2 full turns if that. Just go in small increments. I got mine spot on first go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Also maybe check your pedal height with technical manual (above).

Simple questions to ask. When you say tighten up the screw, do you mean tighten up the screw inwards or loosen the scew outward ? I have the same problem as well and i did exactly the same way as you suggested ( i tighten the screw inwards after unlocked the nut ) Well let you know when i have my first drive in the morning.

  8. The product number your after is 48812-ZE200.

Have you got this on your car at the moment ? how good it is compared to the stock one ? are they the same size compared to the stock one ? The reason i ask is bcoz i have spoken to few people and they said if you change it to "too big', it will make you car becomes too stiff to drive or the worse case is oversteer on cornering ? is that true ?

All i know is the stock sway bar is thin and crap....

But if you go for TRD, i think TRD will make it suitable for the car handling.

BUt overall handling is determined by tires, wheels, shocks, bars and the driver.

Guess what! I compared mine with my bro's standard corolla sedan, his sway bar is much thicker than mine. That really makes me wonder why? is that bcoz the size of the car is bigger and that is why the sedan has the bigger rod? Anyway, i already send my order and david said is going to ready for everyone in 2 weeks time. For those that in WA, could someone suggests where can i get someone to install that for me? or DIY ?

  10. I think I saw RL30WA but not sure..couldnt really see the plates from the side..was in Karawara Nando's at around 11-12? cant remember the time.. black stivo =) with a trd badge..

Yap. It was me. I live around that area. Nice to be spotted. Thanks :yahoo:

:P almost fell of my chair leaning to the side trying to see ur car :P

That was funny :yahoo: Do you normally try to spot any of the corolla owners are actually in this forum ?

  11. RL 30 WA spotted

sorry about almost running into you, dont know what that old lady was doing

    :)

What a way we met each another. Actually, i slow down bcoz i can hear a very loud ' Vrooom noise 'coming from somewhere and it was you. At least, i spoted someone from the club for the first time. I feel happy :yahoo:

  12. Ball joints and tie rods check em all, If they wear too much they allow the wheel to move side to side.

In your case 130Km/h is prolly when the wheel and joints hit resonant frequency and shake in a perfect sine wave swinging the tyre back and forth creating the noise you hear and the vibration in the steering wheel and chassis.

Everything seems normal when i drive below 120km/h. Even the steering starts to vibrate, i cant hear' funny noise' coming from any where. Wierd huh !!!!!!!

Wheel camber can affect handling if improperly set as the faster you go less of the tyre is on the ground due to the air pressure pushing down on the car compressing the suspension. With less surface area on the road the wheel is more susceptible to off balancing.

Though I think the car may have jumped a gutter with a previous owner or something similar. A lot of components work together to keep the wheel straight and anyone of them could cause a vibration if bent, mis-aligned or loose.

The car being fairly recent shouldn't have any major issues, but if it has been crashed and repaired the chassis may not be 100% straight either.

On top of that it's a stivo and it's not exactly a granny car so the original owner probably mis-treated it a little. I know i would.

Sounds like serious problem according to your explanation. Be honest, this car i had it since brand new and i never mis-treated the car in anyway or anyhow. All i know is i have spend lots of time to fine tune everthing to my "standard". I guess sometimes we just can't to have perfect car that has no problem at all.

  13. I've got the problem on my car. everything is fine until ~130+. I was hoping a wheel balance would correct it. Hmmm

are you sure they balanced it for those speeds. does anyone know what road speeds the wheel balancing machine simulates?

I just balanced all my wheels this morning. I did ask this question to the guy and he said once the wheels are all balanced then the vibration should not happen regarless what speed you are driving
