Hey Rattle Rattleson, Very interesting reading with that final update. Seems very odd that the part was missing but should have been there per the VIN. Maybe that was one of the issues with my ZR, even though it was a October 2012 build - I can't check now as I actually upgraded to a new car as I was so disheartened with the ZR after 15 months. I've kept an eye on the thread to see how you guys were travelling with the rattles though. Glad to hear you've managed to fix yours, they really are an awesome car apart from these problems. I reckon Toyota should be issuing some sort of recall to check if any other Corolla's are missing the same part. Earlier this year before I sold the ZR, one of the persistent rattles in mine was the passenger seat, and when Toyota checked it out, it required a whole new seat frame - so if anyone else has a rattling passenger seat this might be your issue as well. The fix worked, but they didn't put everything back together properly and I had misaligned plastics and parts everywhere, but I was just glad the seat wasn't rattling anymore. On another note - if anyone is experiencing groaning and creaking noises when steering from lock to lock at low speeds (in carparks etc...) tell Toyota as I had this problem and they had to replace parts with the front suspension...struts or something..? Once this was fixed the ZR drove completely different, like it had just come new out of the showroom - mind you the ZR was only 12 months old so it should have been driving like new as it was - but it was a complete change, and no more noises or feeling like something was wrong with the steering. Hey YLR, Can't believe the news. I can imagine how devastated you are. 1. A brand new car should not be rattling like ours do, and 2. To have yours pulled apart and put back together to be fixed and for the rattles to return is completely unacceptable, and really infuriates me, so I can imagine how you feel mate. I have no success stories with my rattles, had it serviced recently and I brought it up and they didn't want to know about it again. I am completely over trying to get it fixed anyway so I am getting rid of this rubbish car, and will never buy another Toyota. I have had 3 Corolla's (1996 model, 2011 model and 2013 model) and this car is by far the worst car I have ever owned. I would rather my 1996 model over this car, not even that car rattled. Since you had no luck with your car being at the dealer for around a month and you still have the problems, I am not even going to attempt getting mine resolved now. Jas, have your rattles come back? That's a good outcome for you. Hopefully they are all gone now. I still have all the rattles. No fixes for me. One can only hope they officially admit there is a problem and fix all those with an issue. Very disappointed with this car. Will not buy another Toyota. Regards, Chris

Hey, Well I hope it is all fixed it once you get it back. I have nearly 20,000kms on mine now and, believe it or not, the rattles continue to get worse. Some days worse than others, depending on the weather and stuff. Will bring it up again at the next service but I highly doubt anything will be able to be done without me having to fork out money to pay for it (apparent rattle warranty only covers 10,000kms.) I have the ZR as well (without the glass roof) and I have all the same rattles you have described YLRLevinZR. I'm disappointed with my car as well. I have too many rattles for them to be fixed I reckon, they'd need to pull the whole interior apart and it will probably make it worse. I notice that if the car gets hot from being parked in the sun the sunglass compartment and left side of ceiling rattles much worse. Let me know how you go getting yours fixed. Hey Jason, Shame you have had no luck with getting the rattles fixed. We have a 2 year old Mazda in the family and it has not had one single rattle since it was purchased new. I love the ZR but the rattles are very frustrating and only took about 1 or 2 months to start rattling. Has the dealership or Toyota Corporate said anything about any other people complaining of rattles with this gen Corolla? I would be interested in seeing if it is a widespread problem... Let us know. Yeah have poked, prodded and put pressure on most of the interior panels and have had no luck stopping it. I am somewhat used to it now anyway, just do my best to ignore it. Jason, how did you go with getting the rattle fixed? Good news I hope. CJLevinZR

I did bring up the issue at about 6000kms but don't have the opportunity to take the car back to the dealership in between service intervals. Will be interesting to see how you get on. Keep us posted. Regards, Chris

Yeah, the ZR has lost its "premium" sort of feeling with all the rattles haha. I know a couple of people with the current gen Corolla and they have had no problems to report on the rattle front (which is good.) I thought mine was just a one off dodgy car, being one of the first ZRs in Australia, but possibly not... Hopefully the one or two rattles you have at the moment will get fixed, and will not get any worse. Keep me posted. Unfortunately for me, I have surpassed the 10,000 km rattle warranty so there won't be much I can do but turn up the music to drown the rattles out while I'm driving haha. Regards, CJLevinZR

Hi Jason, I have a 2013 Levin ZR which I got just after the new Corolla was released and yes I have rattle after rattle in this car, I am now up to 11,000 kms and they are just getting worse and have basically given up on trying to get the problem fixed. The solution I have come up with is not buying another Toyota, very dissapointed with the build quality. I have been a Corolla driver/enthusiast for the last 5 years but think the next car will be something different. I have used foam tape/sponge material in between panel gaps which provides a temporary fix but just comes back after about 5 days of driving. Toyota do not acknowledge the problem. The celing, both front door panels, dash board, steering column, panels below the steering wheel and passenger seat all rattle and groan and creak constantly. Sounds terrible and all my passengers comment which is embarrasing. Every time I drive the car, it just gets worse and for what I paid for the car, I am incredibly dissapointed as I am very particular in looking after my car and it feels like a very low quality car - interior wise. otherwise I love the car, looks great, zippy (although would like more power) and mechanically reliable. Hope you can get yours sorted, but from talking with other drivers mine seems to be the worst and may just be a one off case where I got a dodgy Rolla. Regards, CJLevinZR (Chris)

Welcome. I had a Camry Atara SX for 2 days as a loan car back when my previous Levin SX was getting serviced, and it was a great drive, incredibly comfortable and really smooth auto.

Door trim on ZRE182 Corolla

I had my car tinted and I noticed a mark on the silver strip/panel that covers the door grab that you hold to close the door. It was marked at the bottom so I think the starting point to remove the door trim is to pry off that silver strip/panel, as what my tinting guy did... just don't damage yours in the process because it's very easy to mark. I could be wrong though, I don't do much DIY like taking off door trims etc... Cheers. -

Any feedback is useful thanks hauhau. I am just glad to know it is not an exclusive problem to my car I guess - I was only more concerned because my car was only 2 months old when it first started doing it. I'll still mention it to Toyota next time it's getting a service. Cheers.
