  1. If it's a traction control issue, I would suggest you consider choosing the situation where you launch the car hard a little more carefully (ie. Not in the wet). I would not advise turning traction control off in the situation you are describing. Remember, when you feel the traction control working, you have already overcooked it. Best to ease off a little.

I feel the traction control in the Aurion is either coming in too late or just cut off the power

I drive quite some old cars with no traction control, it doesn't hop just lots of wheel spin.

However, in the dry the car just grips fine. in the wet with the wide foot print tyres I'm having right now is okay until around 4000 rpm then the hop just come like crazy.

I do try to be a lot more careful on the right foot in the wet though. But some road surface just want to play skipping rope with me :)

Its happening around 4000rpm cause that's very close to the rpm an Aurion's peak torque comes on

  2. I'm an apprentice at my local Toyota dealership and I'd have to say get the Auto, I can't recall ever having one come in with a problem, the manuals go through clutch's really quickly no matter how you drive them. Or if you are hearing bad things on the 4 speed auto the new hilux with the 5 star crash rating is apparently coming with a 5 speed auto similar if not basically the same as whats in the prado which again I've never seen a problem with.

  3. So I'm after an lsd for my old luxy. According to the plate in the engine bay the code of the diff in there now is G292 so its a 'G' series diff with 4.10:1 ratio and a 2 pinion open centre. I just want to know my options in terms of putting an lsd in?

Edit: I'm thinking of a detroit truetrac.

  4. Are they going off as if you have backed up really close to something? If so they may be sensing the top of the tow bar. Did you have the tow bar fitted at a Toyota dealer? If you had it fitted by Toyota I would take it back and explain the problem to them, if it is because of the placement of the tow bar they should fix it free of charge. If its not because of the tow bar, is your car still under warranty?

No the towbar was fitted by an independant fitter and since then the sensors go off not every time but most times I reverse.

Do you have pictures you could put up at all? If you do that would really help.

  5. I'm an apprentice mechanic at my local Toyota, all that happens is we take the switch out grease it up a little with the proper stuff(some people were putting normal grease on the switches when they were sticking) then put it back together with tamper proof screws, so if something goes wrong with the switch it will have to be replaced.

  7. Received a '95 Hilux the other day,

and i have noticed the speakers aren't that great..

It also doesnt have a CD player, only a radio.

Any ideas on what speaker size(s) i should be getting and what cd/mp3 player as well?

I was faced with same problem when I first purchased mine. I recently installed a Pioneer MVH-1450UB ($103 from supercheap on special) as well as two Fusion 4" 2 way full range speakers and I can say the sound is absolutely 100 times better than stock. Also the sizes are great and the new head unit and speakers fit perfectly into the stock mounts.

  8. Hi everyone,

I was just wondering if anyone knows a nice looking set of rims for my HiLux, the only other thing other then looking alright is I want to get load rated ones so that everything is still good for insurance and what not if the car is ever in an accident.

    Thanks

  9. Hi all,

I could really use some sensible advice.

I'm in London and I'm coming to Australia in a couple of months with my son to do the "Big Lap".

I've owned Landcruisers over here and I'm a big fan of Toyota 4x4s. But obviously I don't have any experience of owning an Aussie car.

I have my eye on a RZN174R extra cab, 2.7 petrol. It's '98 year and has 270000 km on the clock. It's coming from a dealer and has had a service, comes with 12 month warranty road-side assist.

The advice I need is an opinion on driving another 30k kms, some of it, (maybe quite a lot of it), on dirt roads, (not towing anything). Does that sound reasonable?

The other thing is fuel. In the UK there's not much difference in running costs as diesel is heavily taxed, so any savings in fuel consumption is lost on higher pump prices. I see you have the same thing going on in Australia.

    So petrol or diesel?

    I'd appreciate any advice.

    Thanks.

I would say that the kilometres should be fine a mate of mine has a 95 diesel with 400 000+ kilometres on it and it doesn't miss a beat as for diesel or petrol well that's entirely personal preference, however in saying that most of the time with a diesel you will get better fuel economy but many outback towns don't stock a lot of diesel so it all depends where you are heading.

  10. Can anyone tell me where I might be able to find LED tail lights to fit my 91 Hilux (tray back) and what bulbs do people recommend using as a replacement for factory headlights as the factory head lights are very dull and in some situations dangerous.

    Thanks
