  1. Thought I should let everyone know how things are going with this...

Got a deal from Mosman Toyota to get the a Fujitsu reverse camera + installation for 470. Had it installed a a week ago. First impressions, aesthetically the Fujitsu camera doesn't install as nicely as I thought it would. Will post pictures later. It hangs just above the license plate on a bracket & doesn't look like it quite belongs there. I guess that was my bad for not checking how it would look like beforehand.

The camera itself works as expected. very clear in both day & night situations.

  2. I have a 2008 Tarago with the built-in sat nav & overhead DVD. I'll will try to answer your questions as best I can...

"First, the book says the unit remains on but shuts off the screen when
you close it, however it also says you can turn the unit on and off with
the remote. Could it just be that the DVD player needs the remote to
turn it on or should it power up when the car turns on or if I insert a
DVD? It does not appear to have any power at all."

This is correct. The DVD player is always on as long as there's a disc inside. There is no power button. All I do is turn on the engine & push a disc into the drive & it just works. No need to do anything else.

"Second, the previous owner has obviously upgraded the sat nav unit as
it's not the stock one from the original owners manual. I do however
have an owners manual for it. It appears he upgraded a lot of options
when he bought this car. Is it possible that they didn't hook up the DVD
player properly when they installed it? The disc/aux button doesn't
seem to see the DVD player and neither does the mode button."

The disc/aux button doesn't register the DVD player until there is a playable disc in the drive. If no disc is inserted, pressing the disc/aux button just cycles between the CD player and the AUX channel.

  3. Thanks guys. I have been trolling this site for a while before actually signing up. I remember just after purchasing the Tarago, I had issues with the factory sat nav not being as good as the off-the-shelf ones (& I still do) but from reading the forum found out that there's not much you can do about it :(

Have learnt to live with it but am still hopeful that at some point, someone will post a guide on how to hack the sat nav :D

  4. Hi Everyone,

    Looking for advise...

I've got a 2008 Tarago Ultima with factory sat nav installed. I'm just about to purchase the original Toyota reverse camera & was appalled that the Toyota installation fee is as much as the camera!

On to plan B. Find a 3rd party installer or DYI. I'm not very mechanical but can follow instructions extremely well.. Is there an installation guide/manual for the reverse camera?

Or would I be better off finding someone to do it for me? Any recommendations? I live around Hornsby, NSW

Or *shudders* bite the bullet & pay Toyota to do it?

  5. Hi Everyone,

I've been a Toyota fan for a while now & first bought a 2nd hand 2005 Camry Altise 3 years ago. Recently traded-up to a 2008 Tarago Ultima due to growing family size. The Tarago is stock standard and am looking to slowly add some bits-and-bobs to it (subject to home minister's approval).
