  1. Hi all new member here , recently retired , just bought a 99 Tarago cheap ! , maybe to cheap ! , anyhow ive got a bit of time on my hands now and im not to shaby with the tools . My prob is the vans dual fuel ( got to put a new fuel pump in on the weekend , when i find where it is ! ) and it had a cracked cooland tank , so ive bought a new one , reconected all hoses in the right positions ( i think ) , but im still losing water , and a fair bit ! , no steam from exhaust pipe and no obvious hose leakages , car doesnt get hot , coolant just vanishes . There seems to be a small amount driping under car aboutst where the water pump is , but im not realy sure , i cant seem to trace the leakage , any help/tips would be much appreciated , cheers.

You need to drop the fuel tank to get the pump

  2. Just bought a 92 tcr10 tarago and i am in the middle of a major service as i have always done when i have bought older cars(already massively impressed BTW)

The only major issues i am having are that the transmission shifts through the gears very quickly(Not holding them even on full throttle) and will not kick down at all

I can manually downchange without any drama and both up and down shifts are very smooth

I have adjusted the cable as suggested but have not as yet done a fluid change(waiting onthe kit)

But it looks as if the fluid is clean so im not convinced that is the problem

I did my first bare shell rebuild on a car when i was 12 and am now 43 so i know my way around cars so you dont have to dumb it down too much for me but i have not had a lot to do with toyotas

I am also having an issue with a semi functional tacho but will look at that when i attack the dizzy for a lead/plug change

    Ken

Go to ZEN Adventre previa good web site for taragos /previas

  5. Hi,

My 1991 Tarago GLi died suddenly at Easter time. My mechanic gave up and palmed me off to an auto electrician, who thinks the problem is the crank angle sensor or the connectors to the distributor/coil. He can't get hold of the parts to test it, without spending a fortune on heaps of stuff he doesn't need. He's been looking for 6 months - still no luck.

I live in Adelaide, South Australia.

Is there anyone out there who can help?

    Jan

Google the how to test . Dont ground it unplug it .set you meter to omhs .one lead on each pin it should read 700-900 omhs if good

  6. HI,

Hoping someone can assist. I have a friend who has a 2003 V6 Estima auto, the transmission has failed and the local tranny repair guy is talking $6k to repair/replace, and he also needs a computer transmission chip, not even sure what that is... Does anyone know of a place to get s/h or reco trannys, we are in Tassie, but as I am in logistics, freight isnt a big deal.

    I would appreciate any help.

  7. Does anyone have a ny opinions about shock abbsorbers for the 'van?

I have adult children that ride with me from time to time. Each time our shocks go at the back. But now they've gone in front and I need to replace all 4. I wouldn't mind finding REALLY heavy duty ones - and ideas?

  9. I've had my 10/90 Tarago (Bubble) van for just over six weeks and the "rattle" under load has now been diagnosed as the supplemental accessory drive shaft (SAD shaft). I have been quoted about $1325 for shaft and then about 4 hours labour to fit. This is much better news than the previous mechanic I took the car to who told me it was a cracked piston and wanted $5K to replace the engine. I've done a little research on the internet and it seems I have to buy the complete shaft from Toyota because there is no aftermarket kit. Can anyone help me here? Is there a cheaper alternative? A wrecker in Melbourne has offered me a s/hand shaft for $600.

1990 to 1993 12mm tarago sad joints Ebay.com you dont need the hole sharft thay are a round $80 dollars you has a vidio how to do it

  10. Hi Guys,

I have a 2007 Tarago which has an issue with the left LED brake light, basically it doesnt go on when you hit the brakes. Before I take it to the auto electrician just want to double check if someone has had the same issue or maybe provide some advice on things to check,

    Thanks

    Tony

Tony . get a DC Meter unplug the lights test to see if you have power .

  11. Does anyone know which radiator is suitable for replacement of a 2003 Estima 2.4L 2WD (ACR 30)(2AZ-FE engine)(Imported from Japan)?

Mine one had a big crack on the top of the radiator and needed to be replace. :(

The motor is a camry one so the Radiator may be too. Or Ebay .make shore you clean out overflow bottle drain tubes on it

  12. I just bought a second hand Tarago from a big dealer in Perth. The paperwork lists it as "Toyota Tarago ACR30R GLi 2.4L 4Cyl". (It has a 6 cylinder engine, so I am guessing this is not entirely accurate.)

The import tag on the vehicle lists it as "Toyota Estima Campervan". It is definitely not a campervan (normal seats inside), but I am guessing it is some kind of Estima?

I just had a bunch of questions, and any input or answers would be greatly appreciated. (Or links to pages that might explain some of this would be great. I can probably find most of the answers myself, but my first few days of web searches did not result in very much at all, perahaps because it is an import model?)

The vehicle has central locking, but no remote was provided. I am hoping to install a remote. I thought there may actually be a remote module already in the car and that I may just need to buy a new remote and pair it? I found these connectors beneath the steering wheel. Are they related? Could anyone point me to the wiring manuals or where I could get them? (I am not experienced at doing such things, but I am good at slowly reading things through and working them out.)

    attachicon.gifDSCN4168 (Small).JPG

There is this camera or sensor at the rear. Can anyone shed any light on what it is?

    attachicon.gifDSCN4169 (Small).JPG

At first I thought this box under the passenger seat was a cd changer, but it has "Toyota Navigation Computer" and a bunch of various computer connectors on the rear (none of them connected). I am guessing it is an old GPS unit or equivalent.

    attachicon.gifDSCN4170 (Small).JPG

A toll card reader is installed...

    attachicon.gifDSCN4171 (Small).JPG

The stereo is brand new...I'm guessing the Japanese ones don't work here.

    attachicon.gifDSCN4172 (Small).JPG

This strange device is fitted to the rear-vision mirror. The only markings on it state "Super Cat me-3". I thought it might be a radar detector, as it shouts "Be careful. Slow down" whenever I drive past shopping centres, but I can't find any kind of sensor on it (unless it is for the backing sensor?).

    attachicon.gifDSCN4173 (Small).JPG

The engine. Seems very new. Any comments appreciated.

Finally, I know it is probably being paranoid, but should I, or do I need to check, that the vehicle is not affected by radiation? From browsing the net, opinions widely vary from "tin foil hat" to "some highly radioactive vehicles are no-doubt being slipped into out market". I'm old and not worried by dropping dead from such things, but I do have kids so I would rather be safe than sorry.

Also, apologies if I have made any foo-bars or posted this topic incorrectly. I am not a big internet user and am not very used to such things.

    Much appreciated,

    Mike

  15. Hi Guys,

I am just wondering if anyone on here is a mechanic or knows someone that is knowageable with 2ZZ's.

The car is having engine problems and I have taken it to a few mechanics and they keep telling that the car is running fine (But is no where near running fine. It has total loss of power/ Lift and has tapping and engine noises). Or they want $400-600 to take the Cylinder head off the take a look. I'm looking for someone on the north side of Brisbane as I am trying to avoid driving it.

The problem happend after I missed a gear, I was in 5th doing about 95, and was about to drop it to 4th but grabbed 2nd by accaident and it hit the rev limiter hard for a second or so before I grabbing 5th again. since then it has had a tapping noise which sounded like worn lifters but has since gotten worse as with the power loss.

Thank you in advance IN the USA are saying oil surply to the crank is not good . google it

  16. Hey fellas,

First time to this forum so wanted some advice/info if poss.

Owned an 80 series for the last 8 or so years, has done approx 380000 kays. Recently went overseas for 6 weeks, came back and drove the car to and from work for a few days. Noticed one night a smokey smell coming from the engine bay and I could hear a boiling noise coming from the back LHS of the engine block. Checked oil level and was basically dry. Let it cool and topped up with oil. Left if for a few days and drove tonight. Same boiling noise issue. When I originally topped the oil there was steam/smoke coming out of the Oil receival point. I must admit I am fairly useless when it comes to cars so am fairly bad with car knowledge. Any ideas?

Im really worried I might have cooked the motor. No noticeable difference in the cars driving.

    Cheers in advance

Will AIR IN HEAD /HEATER MITE NEED TO BLEAD

  17. I own a tarago 2001 model. I'm a ford man at heart and own plenty of aftermarket wheels for falcons from year 2000 on. Wondering if these wheels from my fords will fit my tarago as I can't find anywhere what offset the tarago is.

    BF.FG wheels offset +45

  19. My old 95 tarago finally drove its last km today ending at around 386k km do our family of 6proud for over 3 years. We bought it just before our 4th child came along and put around 150k km on it so tomorrow getting on a bus from the mid north coast and buying a 2002 estima that I spotted on net tonight hopefully the upgrade from a gli to an imported v6 will go ok have read here a little about the imported estima and think it is the way to go bit conserned about the 4wheel drive thing so any advice would be good

  20. Hi all.

    Newbie here.

Ive got a 2000 hiace with a very noisey diff, not clunges or shudders, but really loud.

I was either going to get it rebiult (wheel bearing and reshimmed) or find another diff.

Hence, any idea on how much to rebuild a diff in these?

Also, if I went for a new diff, does it have to be out of a hiace? I heard hilux and corona diffs fit too.

Its a SWB 2.4 EFI Manual van.

    Thanks heaps in advance

Ty most of the vans run a FSeries diff . so tarago. crown etc .
