  1. Agreed, the quality of the screen might be worse for the Chinese ones, but buying a Chinese WinCE unit with iGo is so much better because from the functional point of view: 1. iGO can provide with speed / red light / speed + red light / average speed camera alerts and warnings, which for some absurd reasons the toyota factory ones will not provide, and in NSW / VIC ever increasing number of cameras it could save you thousands. iGo spedcam files are updated at least half yearly and you can get them for free on the web. Ford units use igo software so I think they come with speedcam alerts. 2. if an el cheapo Garmin unit selling for under $100 can provide free lifetime maps + speedcam update over the web, I don't understand how come a over $4,000 Toyota genuine GPS unit, with map updates of over $200 a pop will not give you speedcam alert. 3. also the Garmin standalone / Chinese Wince ones, your passenger can operate while the car is in motion, which the factory unit cannot do. 4. I believe the Toyota factory ones are made by Fujitsu ten in Thailand, not Japan anyway. 5. with the new Kluger made in USA and the new corolla sedan made in Thailand, I am thinking of Mazda / Subaru for my next car. Toyota please have a look at Honda and see what will happen to your market share if you start become cheap and importing cars from Thailand and charging Japanese prices.
  2. since your 2009 grande is already out of warranty, you don't even need to take it to Toyota dealer, just make sure if you spent over 70 for fully synthetic oil make sure to pick a service center which allows you to see them use it in your car. for the after service fuel increase issue, will that because they also lowered the tyre pressure ? for mine 42 psi is the sweet spot but the dealers like to put them to 35psi.
  3. Hi 2011 KX-S Cosmos Blue, Just be a realist, and get an cheap aftermarket spare. If you still have the factory tyre + alloy + cover better to put it in a safe place and save for future use, should your other working wheels are damaged in the future. or alternatively sell it. happy to help to select the right one. when you need to use the spare, it is wise to arrange it so the tyre will likely to be there (as long as it is still a factory alloy people will still want to take it, one way or another), and you also want to minimise your tyre change time so adding additional security measures will lenghten the time, and/or someone else will not know how to remove it at all. the less time you spend stranded by the roadside, the better.
  4. i will try the reset button, if there is one.... otherwise they might have an individual fuse on the unit itself.... youtube is your friend on how to remove and inspect. it really depends on how much you want to spend on this issue.... go all dealers, in the $X,000s.... aftermarket, can be all under 700.
  5. When I get the rear parking sensors installed the auto-electrician told me that he worked on a similar Kluger before and that model don't have aerodynamic covers installed at the two corners of the rear bumper, mine does..... that's the two black covers secured by 3-4 screws at the rear corners of the car - apparently it is used to create a flat shape for the car underbody so it has better fuel economy. it is funny that in NZ this is mentioned as a feature, however I have some photos of the China highlanders and they don't have them - even at the top model. and by googling some US versions don't have them too.... which makes me wonder does Toyota put them on randomly.... my 2012 KX-R, AWD, 7 seat has them. does yours have them ?
  6. KX-R & ACV40R, i think you need to seek help. monitoring this thread and making personal attacks on internet forum at 4am is not right... not worth going crazy for a spare tyre and some covers....
  7. Hi upset Kluger Owner, sorry to hear that... some people in the US suggest that you can ask the auto electrician to connect one extra alarm door switch to the winding mechanism... so if it is un-winded without the doors being unlocked the alarm will sound.... but I am not sure if this will trully add value to your car and someone have the keys can still take it.... I am lucky that some intuition stopped me from taking my kluger for the first "free service", which actually does nothing... otherwise my spare could have been gone too....
  8. KX-R & ACV40R, what noises and rattles???? Yes yes I am sure your method is perfect, better than what Toyota designed.I own the car so I put things where I like. agree, how I treat my genuine alloy spare + tyre, spare covers is my choice too not if it has a chain & a padlock just make sure you don’t make it so hard for the other driver to take it out…. Usually you need to change the spare in a semi-emergency situation, the less time you are stranded next to the road (probably highway) and changing the tyre the better. It is a matter of fact that motorists have been killed by the road side changing tyres.your choice but you would get 1/10th of its value. Really ? let’s see stay tuned…. I sold an ikea bulk bed for 75% of the price I bought, so not everything is as pessimistic as you think.times must be tough? Yeah, really bad, I paid cash for my brand new Kluger by the way.
  9. look, I think you need to take a step back and look at the whole situation, in this case you might actually have time to enjoy the car. the fact is 1. you need a spare to go with your car, either factory or aftermarket 2. it can be easily stolen, and according to your method you can somehow deter others from un-winding it from outside... but it will have noises and rattles along the way and this is not the location where the tools are designed to be. And nothing will stop whoever have keys to take the spare, and this applies to any car, not just Kluger. so I choose the easy way out, just to put a cheap aftermarket spare and so no one will take it. and when I really need the spare, 99% it will be there. and I decide to get some cash by selling the factory spare, why is it so hard to believe ? I have an aftermarket Sat Nav installed, and I believe it is heaps better than factory. Not all things factory is the best, and that's why some people buy Cooper tires....
  10. Hi KX-R & ACV40R, Because I don't want to be in your situation - getting frustrated because of 1. something that can be easily stolen / (or "mis-handled" by service centres) 2. you never see it during normal driving, or even realise it is there (I mean the covers, alloy, and tyre) 3. you probably never use it. aftermarket means anything that is not provided by toyota. what I done is 1. get a tyre, for kx-r it is the 245 65 17 2. get a wheel which will fit the kluger, and the spare cavity under the car 3. make sure the wheel's bore size will fit the spare anchor, the aftermarket wheel's standard 75.1mm will fit. now I think I probably need to move house in the coming year, therefore less to move is better, so I am selling them and of course I can prove that I am the owner. any offers welcome. you can also come to pick it up from my work which is XXXXX Toyota ;-) (note I don't work at XXXXX Toyota, that was a joke).
  11. Hi Kluger owners, I have the 2012 KX-R, therefore the 17 inch wheels, I read all these reports, therefore I replaced the factory spare with an aftermarket one.... and now the factory new alloy wheel, the new dunlop spare tyre, the spare tyre cover (2 pieces) are in my balcony. I am selling them to sponsor my accessories spree, any takers ? As someone mentioned above to get them from dealer will be 2,600, offers welcome. Otherwise I will try gumtree. Inpection / pick up in Strathfield, NSW, and I can prove I own a Kluger, cheers
  12. Also while during my search about these head units I found this, http://www.p4c.philips.com/cgi-bin/dcbint/cpindex.pl?ctn=CID3687/00&slg=en&scy=HK intersting ? this is a philips head unit specially designed for the highlander / kluger, I am sure you can't get this in Australia, also I am not sure about the availability / price in HK or US.... however this may be a even better option for people who want a more reliable brand, as I trust Philips more than even Fujitsu ten (Toyota OEM).
  13. I suspect they lowered the tyre pressure too much...
  14. I agree with hsv1413 - you need to get the full size Sat Nav (looks like the Grande Sat Nav) - the standard double din size like the ones from dig options.com looks semi pro - and ~450 is overpriced, you can get similar ones from ebay for like 300. the double din ones is only about 6 inch screen size, and the full verion is 8 inches. I did the same with hsv1413, I source the hazard button from USA online, about 120-130 delivered. and I bought the unit from ebay, I picked the seller with at least 1,000 positive feedback, I added the digital tv tuner as well, the seller provide two years warranty. So total about 550.... with digital TV for australia there is another seller in Melbourne who will sell you the unit with the hazard button for about 530-550 deliered, I don't like them because they only provide 7 days guarantee.... and no digital TV option.
