  1. i would say that them alpine tweeters would be fakes.

putting another set of tweeters on the old xover will change the loading on the amp and also change the xover freq'

i dont know what you plan on doing, i wouldnt run 2 sets of tweeters up front unless one set were ambiants which i would only use in an SQ car and only if needed. and then you would also need a xover that would cross them over very high otherwise having them playing the same freq' and same volume will cause multipull source points and make it sound average at best.

as for decent tweeters have a look on www.advanceae.com he has a good range of vifa and scanspeak tweeters.

i ran the Vifa XT25's for 2 years of CAASQ and they were stunning tweeters.

  2. i went custom on my front doors on my last car, 6 layers of FG over the original door pockets.

    fgpod1sd0.jpg

thats as they were getting made, i had $1500 speakers in them.

they helped with imaging and staging, and also so they fitted the doors properly.

they were made by Phatt Audio in melb, cost me around $1200 but still needed to be finnished, never did cause i sold the car.

  3. i have had and used a few subs, owned a few bostons, rally 10in, pro 12.4 and 10.5, had a treo in there and a couple of others.

my last sub is one of my fav's

Oz audio matrix elite 12in. had it running of a SS rubi502, 500wrms and the thing pumped. had 4kw going into it for a while too and for a sub that was rated at 750wrms it was a decent effort.

i have 6 subs goin into the lux, qmax 6.5in subs and will have around 3-4kw on tap for them

i have seen one of these put out 130db!! there damn impressive.

  4. Well he did ask for a sub, so I did not question his amp. Fuddbutter is also right on how more of difference can be heard with a better speaker then a better amp.

With regards to my comments to how corners and flat panels are not good for enclosures, I wasn't 100% sure on that. But it was quoted out of a Hi-Fi magazine, with egg like speakers going for about 5000 UK Pound.

I hope this thread does not go astray...

smaller speakers you can get standing waves, midrange speakers suffer from it alot.

and them egg and round speaker enclosuers look porno!

  5. you can get get 2 channel mono block amps... kinda confusing but there designed to be bridged as a single channel. but i doubt thats what this is as there not that common and not that cheep

anyway an amp means two fiths of **** all most the time. for day to day listning you probly wouldnt know the difference between a mediocor amp and a hi end amp.

soon as you start the car any improvement go's out the window.

if you want to compete in SQ comps then sure, get the best you can.

MR and MSROLA - what store does MRROLA work at?

i have spent 10 years and $30,000 on car audio. it wasnt till 2 years ago i started to be able to hear little differences and subtles in the music and the charicteristics of speakers and amps.

you will hear more difference from a better quality sub than you will a better quality amp

  6. You could try putting some matting on the inside of your enclosure, as they say in the audiophile world.......flat panels and corners are your worst enemies when it comes to enclosures.

thats not correct, the standing waves with sub bass are very long and cannot be prouced inside most sub box's, well unless the box is 15feet long..

i have tried doing so many different things with sub boxs and most of it is old wives tales.

all that is needed is strengh

e box was real easy... plus i got bunnings to do the cuts for me... so all i had to do was glue+screw them... add the carpet (THAT was hard... maybe coz i used house carpet... thick AS lol) then paint the face.... a day's work n it was my first enclosure

i have had bunnings cut up many box's for me. now i go to a cabinet maker, cost me around $50 for a 25mm thick box assembled

  7. 'll be upgrading to a Boston Acoustic sub soon since my main aim is SQ..... but if u'r going SPL i would highly recommend DD (Digital Designs)

the boston subs are nice subs, i have had a few, (rally 10in, Pro 10.5 and Pro 12.4)

the 10in played low as and still loud (130db on termlab in a sedan)

  8. Hey guys!

im fudd. i drive an '06 lux

this is my first toyota. before this i had a Eunos Cosmo, '78 e21 316 (with 2.0l in it) Seat Cordoba and a N12 pulsar.

the seat had a showy stereo install in it and had it at FB2002. the Eunos had a nice stereo winning me many trophys over 2 years in CAASQ (sound quality comps) including Vic champion twice and Aust champ once (and a second)

the Hulix will be bigger and better. got planned a half decent stereo including

    Apine 7998r Phantom face

Soundstream Reference 404 and Rubi 502 running the fronts

OZ audio Matrix Elite 2 ways (soon to be 3 ways)

Qmax 6.5in subs x 6 will be mounted in a FG box under and behind the passenger seat

DDz1a will be powering the subs

    and full Scosche wireing

all the install will be getting done by the guys at Phatt Audio who are responsible for the Alpine 300c and Eclipe Tarago

ill post pics up when it's getting done :)
