Noisy Echo Gearbox Question in Yaris / Echo Club Posted February 17, 2017 Hi . Hope you can help me Bought a 2001 echo last week 5 speed and it has a gearbox noise when you accelerate and decelarate (170k on the clock) A whining and slighty grinding noise The Clutch is great The gears engage fantasticly and the car is as sooth as a whistle Took it to my mechanic and he fees it be a tooth of the main shaft He thinks that it is more cost effective to buy a second hand box and swap them rather than pull the box down and repair it . I am changing the oil this week to see what comes out (scared) but i thought i would ask your opinion on this one. Thanks for your time.
