  1. G'day,

Has anyone had cruise control installed to their Yaris? I drive a 2007 YRS 1.5 litre hatch and am looking to get cruise control installed.

Are any of the after market kits any good or should I get a Toyota genuine unit installed?

    Any help appreciated.

I recommend you get the OEM control unit installed, but I think that its not going to be cheap. The aftermarket options are not bad, but if I had to do that with my car I would go OEM all the way, the problem is if the installation of an aftermarket control unit is faulty it can mess a lot of electronic components in your car (Assuming your car is not drive by wire), you should check if your car is driven by wire that's very important. If it has an electronic throttle go ahead, if its driven by wire I don't recommend you go aftermarket, go OEM. Hope I've helped you!

  2. Hi Guys,

Looking at a 2011 aurion with 28,000 klms which has had the free service and one at 11,000 klms but no other services since. Whats the feeling guys do you think you would get any sludge build up in that time by missing 2 services.

    Regards Pinpointa.

In my opinion, I think that you are looking for a almost new car so I think there would be no issue, also because its a toyota and they are designed to last in the most extreme conditions. If that would have happened with a VW I would recommend you to buy that car, those cars are pretty sensitive in terms of servicing. I think you could buy the car, make an engine flush (hire a professional if you don't want to hydrolock your engine), and fill it with fresh clean oil and you would be good to go. Hope this helps you!

  3. After a manual gearknob for my ZRE. Can be leather or non leather. Sydney area and don't ask something ridiculous for it. Tired of wreckers trying to rip me off. Thanks

Wow that's some expensive gear knob, I recommend you stay OEM but if that's not possible I think you should go aftermarket. There are some great aftermarket gear knobs that would cost you the same and even less. You should try looking more, maybe you could find one OEM at the same price. Also I can recommend you my site http://www.searchallwreckers.com.au/ you don't have to register or fill anything, and we can find you a lot of options so you can take a good deal, we search in all australia wreckers and if you find what you want we can ship you the part directly to your house. Hope you had good luck getting your gear knob!

  4. Just grab one from the wreckers.

No wreckers within two hours from where I live :(

Hey those plastic dipsticks can be a pain, the first thing I recommend you before buying one is checking the piece of the dipstick that's already broken is not stuck in the car, because when you try to get the new one in there it wont fit. Also I have a site that's great for your problem of distance from the wreckers, the site is:http://www.searchallwreckers.com.au/ you just send us a description of the part you want, and we will send you more than one option so you can choose. The request of parts its totally free and you don't have to give personal information! Take a look i think we can help you a ton!

  5. Hi Everyone,

My mum just bought a Toyota Vitz and she is overseas.. The previous owner put the wrong air con compressor in it and the belt is rubbing against other belts. Apparently from what some mechanics said, they put a previous model aircon compressor in it and that is why the belts are rubbing each other and making some noise..

So, because she is having some difficulties to find the right part there, I am thinking to buy the aircon compressor here in Australia and send it to her.

I need some help to identify the exact model of the car and what the part number or any info i'll need to buy the correct one here.

Info i go so far from her that she found on a plate in the engine bay are:

    Make: Toyota

    Model: Vitz

    Type: Hatch back

    Chassis number: SCP902035181

    Engine number: 2SZ1957990

    Engine caoacity: 1290

    Number of axles:2

    Kerb weight: 1020.

    Below are some photos:

    attachicon.gifIMG_0294.JPG

    attachicon.gifIMG_0297.JPG

As your engine number says, the engine your yaris / vitz is a 2SZ-FE engine. The number for the part you are searching is this 447220-8465 for sure. Be careful with these "older" models compressors, you should get these part changed immediately and for sure change your belt ! If you need some places to get this part I could recommend you this one www.searchallwreckers.com.au

They search the part for you, and you can ge it shipped to your house.

    Good Luck!

  6. Thanks for the help guys, rocked up last night and we had just connected the battery and the thing started?

No idea why, or what was wrong with it initially but it's working now.

However, there was a faint burning smell after we had turn it off, smelt a little like oil, but I think this could be because the car hasn't been started nor driven for a few weeks

Surely you have an electrical problem, the cause: well they may be like a million causes (with electrical problems is really hard to know) but I am quite sure it has to be the sound system installation interfering with the car starting system. The most common cause are failing relays or they didn't installed properly the grounds. I think you should get your electrical system checked first!

    Good Luck!

  7. Hi Everyone,

Turbo is starting to go and so i am trying to decide what is the next step. Upgrade the internals of the turbo to hybrid or upgrade the turbo entirely to ..... not sure. so just wondering what i should do.

I recommend you get a TD04, they are relatively cheap, a little bit more laggy yes, but your boost peaks would be higher also. It's almost a bolt, but I recommend you get an aftermarket ECU, if not you're going to be getting 5PSI out of it and it would be in safe mode every time.

    Good Luck!

  8. G'day guys I'm new to the club. I just found out about it and decided to join. I have just become the proud owner of my fourth Toyota this one being a 1997 3dr starlet 1.3L. My previous cars were a 1975 KE30 corolla sedan, 1974 corona MKII 2dr coupe and a 1978 BJ40 project I didn't get to finish before selling.

I'm now concentrating on the starlet and my question is....

Does anyone know if I could replace my engine gearbox and diff in the starlet with a 1.6L 4AGE 16v engine gearbox and diff?

    Will it fit?

Will it be too much time and effort?

How much body modification will it entail?

If anyone could help that would be awesome...

    Cheers guys

    Matt

How about getting a 4AGE Silver Top, those engines come in the Corolla GT-i, and Corolla Levin, they are awesome engines. You could get it imported from japan, they are relatively cheap . They have 20 valves, and produce a fair amount of 118 kW, they are not turbocharged so they fulfill your requirements. There is a picture of the engine. BTW its a great looking engine!

    Good luck!

  9. hey guys, thinking of getting myself a ep91 starlet and doing a 4efte conversion.

Apart from the motor and gearbox what else will i need? (apart from upgraded brakes and suspension, that will be done)

Need to do anything to fueling etc?

    cheers

thats a surprise considering how close japan is to you guys

We have fairly strict import laws, one of the big problems is that we got the standard EP91 Starlet here and that makes importing the performance version much harder.

That really sucks! For your swap information, I saw a lot of people make two things:

    1. Installing a 5-EFE engine and turbocharging. (Same engine as the paseo and tercel, fairly simple to get) you can use the stock glanza or gt turbo Jdm import turbo, or you can use another turbocharger.

    2. Getting a JDM imported engine (I don't know how cheap would be that in Australia). And one of the common turbo swaps could be a TD04 from subaru. I have driven 3 Glanzas with this turbo swap, and they are MAD!

Try looking what toyota engines are the most similar to the 4efte engines in Australia and get it turbocharged, well that's in the case you couldn't get your hands in a JDM engine or its to expensive/illegal to import.

    Good Luck!

  10. what about the 5th? i just think they got it right with the 5th just the looks are amazing the pop up headlights whatever happend to pop up headlights? were they just a fashion thing?

The pop up headlights were horrible for pedestrian safety, but look incredibly cool ! In many cases (mostly in the USA) they were implemented in cars like the 86 for keeping up the headlights. I know it may sound weird but the americans had some strict regulations about the headlight height. Toyota didn't want to raise the car so they installed pop up headlights to the USDM version to keep the car as low as possible ! That's why Celicas with pop-up headlights are my favorites, its a shame Toyota doesn't do this any more for its customers to preserve the "driver's car".

  11. They are stupid. The light will go off if you change the intake pipe as the car has a sensor in it. It does not damage the car but will have the check engine light come up.

PPE header and mid pipe, HKS silent hi-power catback, 440cc injectors, DD intake manifold, 2.5 CAI(Blitz pod) ,MWR 190lph fuel pump and PFC and a tune.

That will get you 130kw at the wheels.

The standard exhaust manifold is decent as it is and if you get it ported it will save a lot of money and do a very similar thing. The exhaust is a matter of sound really. The muffler is set up before the rear sub frame and so the tail pipe comes out from it at a funny angle. It is a matter of how it looks mostly. Megan racing make a okay one that is shiney.

Sorry about the bold lettering, could not change it lol

As woot said, the light wont come on if you adapt the oxygen sensors correctly. The only thing I recommend you is getting that job done by a professional if you don't know how to do it. The main issue here is that the oxygen sensor that is after the headers sends a signal to the computer of how "well" performed is the combustion inside the combustion chamber. If you fail to install this sensor correctly, it would send "failure" signals to the ECU and that would make your check engine light go on. In the picture below you can see how a well done job is performed.

Also I would recommend if you are getting more than "bolt-ons" get decent cams, to compensate the increase in fuel of the 440 cc injectors. Also if you can get better cables for spark plugs and make all the supporting mods that would be awesome. Many people start modifying their car without making the supporting mods and they tend to fail within time. Good Luck with your project!

  12. I think they are pretty reliable cars (its toyota after all), but if you are looking for a completely reliable car I don't recommend you getting a turbo 4wd car. Even Though its a Toyota, there are more mechanical parts that could tend to failure (turbocharger, 4wd system), I think the GT4 its an excellent car, but the truth is that its a pretty old car, turbo, and really complex to work in. I would recommend getting yourself a 7th generation, is newer, and probably you won't spend a lot of money in maintenance and gas. Good Luck!
