I am unimpressed with the newer commonrail diesels- good fuel economy but the maintenance $$ ouch (4g for replacement injectors- really???) Its why I want to find out about retrofitting a 4.2 turbo diesel into a almost new 2013 troopy- due to `contacts' I can get it with less than 90k on the clock with blown (as usual)v8 turbo diesel for a grand (complete with bullbar, h/d hayman reece towbar and twin battery setup) its not what you know but who you know ;-) (and the number of the v8 diesels- both single and twin turbo) we got as warranty replacements every week is why I want to retro the good old, solid as a rock 4.2 into one... a replacement motor is almost 20g- I can get a reco 4.2 turbo diesel for under 4g I no longer work at toyota so have lost a lot of contacts grrr- but trying to find out what differences there were bellhousing/gbox/transfer case between the v8 and the straight six as far as I can see visually- its the same manual g/box- but has a different bellhousing, different engine mounts but to same holes in chassis rails surely it couldnt be that simple.... (not worried about elecs - thats my trade....) ;-)
