Nah, there is no little hole or plug that the screw goes in, it goes straight down into where the wires were, so i drilled tiny holes in and put little clips to hold the wires on either side of where the screw goes.
But do i need to go pulling **** apart to look for crap like this? It turns out that one of the wires was damaged already, so i had to cut it, and solder a new section in.
-
I had to get the plastic thing off under my steering wheel and i noticed something when i took the guard off on the door.
I have no idea if its stock standard (jesus i hope not) but i noticed that one of the screws that holds the guard down on the door (At the feet), which is attached to the kick panel, to get at the last screw..has a screw that goes straight through a bunch of wires!!1
Is that normal and won't that f*** my cabling up eventually?

In looking around for where to get me a repair manual for my celica, I found this.
'Njoy.

Ok, so the part i've worked out thus far is the Simota.

SIM-CA10 Honda Accord 90-93
As for ozCelica. I registered but for some reason, the admins have been slack with my account (i'm not banned, i registered and it said i need administrator approval to post) and i can't actually read the workshop section (or post).

Oh thats bloody perfect haiison.
Will that be the same/similar to doing it on a gen5 or will i have to do something dramatic?
-
Aight, so its time to get rid of that bloody stock intake; with all the mods the prev. owner had on this thing, you'd have thought he'd done an intake... :(
Anyway, so what are my options; whats going to be high maintenance and whats going to give me a good power gain?
Edit: and simplicity of install -_-

Thanks mate :)
I don't live nth shore but damn, I'll drive that far to get my hands on somebody i can trust.
-
Grats man. Thats a pretty cheap 3s-ge too :/
I'm still driving my first car to be honest too.

are starter motors generic? IE can i go to pick'n'payless and take one off any ol toyota and use that?
-
Thanks :)
Also; is there repair manuals out there for this sort of s***? ie 1990 5s-fe 184st's?
I had one for my bombodore and it worked a treat for minor things like this.
-
He was also telling me that apparently you can get 'exchange' starter motors; reconditioned starter motors, and they take yours.
Happen to know where i can get this in sydney?
-
5spd manual.
I rang me old man and he suggested the same thing.
Do you happen to have a diagram as to exactly what it looks like? I'm pretty sure i know, but I'd rather not guess.
-
The car is a 1990 st184 sx (with the 5s-fe engine)
nono, like I said, no cranking. All I heard was the click and a hum like the motor was turning but not touching the engine.
-
This morning, when i got in the baby and turned the key, All i heard was a low humming sound, like the starter motor was spinning but not going into the engine (i'm not sure exactly how they work though).
Edit: but DEFINITELY no turning of cylinders. I at least know what it sounds like when the spark plugs aren't doing their thing or there is no fuel etc..
I tried it about 2-3 times. i rocked the car back and fourth a little to see if that would help to no avail.
I went inside, made myself a coffee, rang the boss to tell him I'd be late for work, called a taxi, walked outside and tried to turn it over again whilst waiting for the taxi...
Bam! Motor fires first go.
Any body have any ideas?

I wasn't the owner during the completion of most of this work however, the ex-owner is a good mate of mine, a mechanic, (and has been since early high school :/ ) that I see every now and then and there is a lot of genuine trust between us; he wouldn't sell me a lemon, just as I wouldn't sell him a piece of junk computer, but at the same time, i need to learn this crap myself as he is moving overseas in about a month.
Thanks for the link too.

I'd be guessing if i told you, but I'm pretty sure I don't have a carbi, I think I was thinking headers :/
Sorry, i'm learning this **** real fast lol

Right; Here's an update on the situation
After posting this thread, the problem pretty much fixed itself, HOWEVER, it's started happening again on occasion but i've noticed now;
1. It tends to happen when the engine is hot and/or
2. if I roll the car 20-40M, it kicks over, instead of making the whurring sound..
Its almost like the motor is not connecting with the gearbox. it turns on whurrs every time without fail
