  1. Hey boz, can you tell me where the weld split is? Is it in the wheel arch area or around the back window?

    Thanks

    hey mate,

Check the wheel arch area,Check the integrity of the sound deadening,Might have to take off the tyre?? PM me if u need help,I can correspond with the technician that did it..

Bozurolla my Aurion Prodigy has water leaking from underneath the speaker grill, ie. where the speaker grill sticks to the door. This only happens when it's raining heavily and the car has been exposed to it for 20 or so minutes. The leak happens in both the passenger and drivers side door. Has happened about 6x now since November.

I took it to the dealership who tried to reproduce the problem with no success. Mind you they did it on a 40 degree day.

YOu don't happen to have encountered this problem too?

Ive spoken to my toyota guy & he thinks it may be the door skin (panelling) thats not properly secured or fully welded (its a long shot but happens)

Thanks for that. I'll book with the dealer and mention this. Hopeful the find and fix the problem.

It rained heavily again today in Melbourne. No leaks by the time I parked inside the car park but, when I got back in the evening, there were some water droplets.

I upgraded my speakers and got the sound deadening done. Hopefully they don't get wrecked.

  2. Well i was right. It's completely screwed. i drove home without it getting above 8.4l/100. And i flogged it as much as i could.

Maybe resetting the ECU will help, failing that, looks like its a trip to Toyota.

Looks like you have a problem there. I too find that the computer is within 0.2 Ltr/100km of the actual figure. I calculate my fuel consumption everytime I fill up (old habit). On bumper to bumper traffic I'd get 11-12Ltr/100km, for highway you can get around the low 8s or even high 7s.

    - 1 Amp to power subs, 1 Amp to power splits

    - Rockford 3Sixty.1

    - Sound deadening of front doors and boot.

Will wait couple more years to get 18 inch rims. Not planning to lower it though.

  5. Hi all,

Had a few very hot days in Melbourne last week, took the Presara out of the garage, temperature shown as 24C (probably garage temperature). Outside however, full sun, it was something like 41C. It took about 20min for the car to start showing an increase from the 24C display, and about 3 hours of driving around in that heat with a black car before it climbed to 41C.

Is it normal to take that long, does anyone else have the same problem? My previous car (Holden Calais) was fairly quick in showing the temperature changes, and that's 11 years older!

    Thanks.

    Rob

No problem with mine. It's very accurate.

  6. Hi guys,

Just picked up my new ZR6, drove straight into The Tyre Factory (Sunshine, Melbourne) store and put these beauties on:yahoo:

Looks great! How much did it cost you? What tyre did you get and what's the spec width, profile?

Did you have to do anything for your suspension? Also, how's the ride. Is it a lot harsher than on 17s?

  7. there's a guy here, but i cant remember his nickname....just search the all the Aurion Posts.... LOL (sorry not much of a help here)

A friend of mine was able to get a hold of an Aurion TRD. We went for a spin just a few days back.

Very impressed with the car! There's no lag in acceleration. It really goes. You do get some torgue steer though. The ride is suprisingly good and it corners a lot better than your standard Aurion. The seats offer great support, especially during cornering. I'm not sure about the red colour trim though. The spoiler may not be as aggresive as some might want.

Whether it justifies the extra 20k over the Sportivos you will have to decide.

  8. Its probably all more so on the batches, perhaps some people get cars from a good batch where assembly may be more careful e.g. earlier in the day perhaps than compared to the end of working day batches where people tend to be more slacker and want to go home asap.

and given Aussie culture is like that in contrast with japanese labour culture, you probably can see why anything built in Japan is expected to be more reliable etc, same goes with camera's TV's etc.

So we shoule not buy australian made products? or force force OEMs to change mentality of their work force?

A lot of the quality has got to do with the design, eg. how easy is it to assemble, etc. These days, there are so much more automation that where a product is manufactured wouldn't have that much influence on the end product's quality as much as before.

On a side note, my fiance's sister has a 1993 BMW 5 series. It has so much squeeks and rattles, it's not funny! On a flip side, my 10 year old magna (Aussie made) has no where near the amount of squeeks and rattles.

Quality of Aussie cars have come along way.

  9. As I've mentioned before Toyota has slipped in quality over the last couple of years. They have grown so quickly over the years, that quality has been left behind. You can google it. I still maintain that Toyota cars are a lot better in quality than many other brands. Even the likes of Volkswagon have quality issues. We all hope that are Aurions last for many years to come as they are very nice cars.

I also have a couple of issues that I will be getting the dealership to look at. :(

  10. do you have a number plate surround/protector thingy?

i did and it was rattling a lot. so i just took em of and just tightend the screw heaps and its fine now :P

Actually I do. The dealer put it there!

Come to think of it the number plate protector is the one thats rattling. The plate is screwed on tight.

    Thanks for the advise.

  11. how much did it cost you to get it installed SilverProdigy?

im thinking of sound deadening the doors and boot, coz my sub makes the whole car rattle lol

The cost will depend on how much sound deadening you require. To sound deaden the two doors and the boot, you can buy a Dynamat Bulk kit, costs around $330. Installation cost will depend on your installer. You'll probably look at around the $350-400 mark.

I was just playing a song earlier and found that the bass in this song was causing some rattles in the number plate :(

Luckily it's only happening on a very small number of songs that do this. So you may also want to get stuff to stop your number plate from rattling.

  12. Depends on the change in humidity in the car (door) relative to that outside etc.

My only suggestion involves you standing on a sunny day holding a hose-pipe while 'watering your lawn' off your car door. Then see if there is any moisture. Perhaps take it to a car-wash place and use a pressure hose?

    Need to work it out...

Done something like that. Poured a bucket of water on the drivers side mirror. Waited for some time.

Found no drips/leaks. Checked again this morning and still nothing. Will get the car washed in couple of weeks. Will keep an eye out for it.

  13. It rained heavily again in Melbourne on Saturday. Pretty much right on quue, after nearly an hour driving, I see some water dripping from below the speaker grill in both the driver's and front passenger's doors. See attachment.

Anyone else notice this? Everything else is dry. As mentioned before, if there is a big leak in the door, I would expect to see more moisture getting into the cabin.

  14. I upgraded the speakers on my Aurion and added couple of subs. I am thinking of adding sound deadening to doors and boot.

Just wondering whether anyone has added sound deadening to their Aurion or Camry. Would like to hear your thoughts.

Is it worth the effort in improving the sound quality. How much did it cost and where did you get the job done.

DIY, with a heatgun and a scissor... get prepare to cut yrself sometime... it doesnt improve SQ(thou some might say YES?), but a LITTLE more bass(for sure)... i get it "sticked"(installed as u can say?), coz i dont wanna cause future rattling sound on doors due to too much bass trembling the whole door(still an experiment, tell u the result in a few years :spiteful: )

    yea, search before u ask..

Got the front doors, p****l shelf, the boot and the tyre wall sound deaden. The service holes of the front doors were also sealed with MDF and sound deadened. In addition, I got some Focal Plain Chant (sound absorbing pads) installed behind the speakers. All installed by GL Pro Sound in Essendon.

Definitely get more sub-bass. I can feel it without even not using as much amplifier power. Mid-bass, hard to tell as I got some new splits installed and they are still to be worn in. The car sounds a little bit quieter as well.

    Here are some pics.

  15. I average around 10.0L/100km. I drive 50% of the time bumper to bumper traffic, the rest freeway traffic (80-100km/h).

From experience, if you drive mainly around town (50-60km/h) without much stop/start traffic you may get around 11-12L/100km.

Typical things to check would be tyre pressure (should be at least 30psi). Are you carrying extra weight in the boot? Roof racks? What fuel do you use? Is it from a well known company? Is the air-con always on?

Getting 14.0L/100km is getting towards V8 territory. Can't believe the dealer would say that its to be expected.

  16. i suggest u change the whole system in one time, rather than putting speakers in now, and sub, which u will need the converter, cost around $150, exclude labour. then u buy new HU, u will need to pay again for labour, and converter wont be used, bcoming a waste.

Original speaker if not wrong, is 6x9. U gotta rethink about 6.5 or 6... nowadays, ppl use 6.5x6.5, even for SQ..

Integrate steering wheel control, possible to mod so tat will work for volume and stuff, i DONT THINK can work for the speedo stuff. Basically cost $200(exclude labour).

I had another plan for installing aftermarket HU, and still make the speedo stuff works, but it doesnt worth it, too much trouble and labour time. i didnt even bother to make the volume work, for $300, i rather spend for deadening.

I recon u read around this forum before asking, there is a lot of info bout audio mod for aurion in this section.

Yeah I had read around the forum... but there isn't too much mention of going to 6 inches as opposed to 6x9s (sorry mistyped in my original post). I agree about the sound deadening, as it does definitely make an improvement on sound. I figure being a new car, it would however still be nice to retain all the features including the steering wheel controls.

The main reason I want to upgrade the HU, is because I tend to use the iPod a fair bit for music, rather than CD's, which are quite inconvenient. The stock head unit doesn't seem to have any input, other than the mp3 cd support, which is pretty much standard these days. I have noticed recently on the website that there is actually a new head unit available that isn't mentioned in the brochures, which includes an aux-in jack on the front. I'm going to try and find out the price for one of these from my dealer soon.

Either way, it's just a small consideration at the moment, as my old car used to have atrocious sound on it initially, so I am in a way used to it lol

It really depends how much you're prepared to spend. I agree with Dannywss, it's not worth changing the current head unit, especially with the integrated steering controls. I upgraded my sound system. Added front splits, rear coaxials, couple of subs and couple of amps to power them. You will need a convertor to hook the head unit with the amps, etc. The converted in my system is the Rockford 3Sixty.1. It's about $500 retail. It's got an AUX, so it should work with the ipod. It's just a matter where you get it installed.

As for the speakers, some modifification will need to be done for the 6.5 inch to fit. Speak to a specialist car audio place. They wouldn't have any trouble with the install.

If you're in victoria, checkout www.glprosound.com.au

These are the guys who upgraded my aurion and i'm happy with the results. Again, it's just a matter of how much you want to spend.

thanks for the info share. great stuff. are you going to post any photos of the system??

Apologies for the late reply. Here are a couple of photos. Not much to show really as the I wanted to keep the look "factory". The only sign that the system has been upgraded is if you look at the boot.

  18. Mkay:

Did you also plan to remove the existing tweeter? if so what do those look like as I was just thinking of using the existing ones ones and just using coaxials to replace the four.

I upgraded the front speakers to a set of MB Quart splits. The upgrade is definitely worth it.

Here is a pic of the stock tweeter from the Aurion. It has a power handling of 17.5watts RMS.

  19. My new Aurion Prodigy has a drive train noise when cold. If you reverse when cold and then go forward, turning the steering wheel at the same time, you hear a soft clunk noise. I do not here it again until the next morning.

I rang the service manager at the local dealership, he said it was a known happening but not to be concerned. When cold the engine is reving higher and the noise is simply take up slack in the drive train at high revs. Especially evident when going from reverse to drive!

Has anyone else had this happen?

I get that "clunk" noise pretty much each morning. I reverse out, then drive forward for about 5-10 metres then I get the noise. Don't even have to turn the steering wheel. I was told by the service guys checked it out and said its normal. It's got something to do with the park brake or something.

  20. i would not take any chances expecially having worked my ***** off for some big $$$'s. i would drive like a grandma and about the ECU remembering your driving style is true. but the ecu can be reset so i would drive like a grandma for the first 1000km's and then do a ECU reset and drive it hard for about 300km's and then your driving style will be remembered by the ECU. then your all sweet to go. its just the way i would do it. and show us some pics when you receive your new ride.

Agree. Drive it like a grandma. After the first 1,000kms change the oil and filter (even if the book says you don't need it till 15,000kms). That should be about it.

If it's only a lease car then fang it till your hearts content. :P
