  1. Hi all, Trust all of you are doing well. I have recently changed roles and I have been offered a $14K motor vehicle allowance, or a fully maintained Tida. I have nothing against the Tida but I would much rather drive my camry instead. Now not being knowledgable in the taxation implications, I am wondering if any of you have any insight into which option is better financially for my hip pocket. My car is 2004 Sportivo V6, and I have around $8K in loan repayments to go. Any info from people who have MVA would be helpful. Thanks in advance
  2. Got my 2003 Sportivo V6 Camry cuz a good friend moved to US. Rather reluctant buy at first but got offered a good price for a car that had done less than 80K. Now done nearly 100K. Absolute trouble free motoring (except for a dead battery after 2 months when I came back from o/seas) during this time. I get Toyota service every 7,500 kms. While power is not stunning, its not half bad. While looks doesn't turn heads, its not ugly either. All in all an honest car that gets me from A to B in relative comfort and peace of mind that I may be able to get another 100K without any hassles. Fingers crossed.
  3. After a bit of trial and error, I have found that there is far more pinging from my engine (V6 3.0) than the normal 91 unleaded stuff that I use. The pinging is especially noticeable when accelerating suddenly, i.e. from 0-30 or other times when sudden acceleration is required. I didn't really notice a difference in fuel economy either - so for 4 cents extra i decided to stay with the regular stuff.
  4. saw a nice set of trd stickers on a camry last week. does anyone know where i can get them online? or any stores in melbourne perhaps?
  5. Hi all, Just wanting to get your opinion about Ethanol Fuel. Due to skyrocketing fuel prices - now at 1.44 cents per litre - i am thinking of ways to reduce fuel costs. I have heard some mixed reviews from different pple. I am interested to hear about your experience. Does anyone have any opinions of the Ethanol fuel blend? Has anyone used this on a regular basis? Any difference in performance? If so, how is the fuel consumption? appreciate your views! cheers,d
  6. Personally bought an 03 sportivo 3.0 v6 with 88,000kms a couple of months ago. Get around 12.5Litres / 100kms driving mostly in metro/city traffic, less than 10L on the highway. Engine still purrs like new and is so smooth to drive - its always been serviced by toyota dealership every 7,500kms. Very happy with purchase - and extra grunt with the v6 is always handy. Only complaint i have with the camry is the engine sounds a little "tinny-pingy". Asked toyota about it and they said camry engines are naturally like that.
  7. Yeah I avoided saying that because the title was amusing Thank you all for your input and guidance. I had a good look through the other threads covering the same issue. Looks like I'm not the only one with this problem. Been following the advice of: 1. Sometimes letting outside air flow in the vents (with aircon off) during usual driving. 2. When putting a/c on - using outside air in the beginning and switching to recirculated air once car has cooled down. Seems to be working well so far. The dead cat has receded ... for now~
  8. Hi all you Toyota enthusiasts! It's great to have a forum where dingbats like me can ask questions without feelin too stupid. Now, since its getting nice and warm in Melbourne of late, I have been using the aircon a fair bit. All is fine but once in a while there is this distinctive damp smell that comes out. Now its only done this to me 2 times in the last two months - the first time i just turned it off and opened the windows. It was fine the next time I used it. The second time, I turned the aircon on full blast with windows open to try and circulate the system for a few minutes. Is this common with Camry? Is this a bigger problem than meets the eye? BTW mine is a 2003 Camry Sportivo V6. Always appreciate your comments and experiences.
  9. That sounds like a pretty good deal you have there mate. I expect to be overcharged at Toyota dealerships - cuz that's where the cash cow lies. how much u pay for a normal service thru this dude?
  10. Thanks for your reply 94 Camry ... I only do around 17-18K a year on my car. Just bought it a couple of months ago - and I noticed it had been serviced at a toyota dealer all the time. A friend of mine who works at Toyota offered to do the service at mates rates $300 - said usual service like this costs around $700!! given that all parts are genuine and all the oils have been changed - including transmission - i am thinking it is a pretty fair deal - although a touch on the dear side.
  11. Sportivo 2003 V6 3.0 here, done nearly 90k. 100 metro-city driving ... average just under 13L / 100km. Does much better on highway - less than 10L / 100km.
  12. dude - love what u did to ur grill and lights ... do u sell that yourself or get it from ebay? can i ask how much that cost for replacing grille and adding led headlights?
  13. ... will ultratune use same parts as Toyota dealership? i heard genuine toyota parts costs a bit more as well ...
  14. Hi all, Hi New camry owner here ... Just wondering how much would I expect to pay for the following services for my 2003 Camry V6 - 90,000kms service at a Toyota Dealer. Is $300 too much to pay? 1. Oil Change 2. Fuel Filter change 3. Air filter change 4. Coolant flush / change 5. Replace Spark plugs 6. Power Steering fluid change 7. Transmission oil change 8. Wheel rotation and balancing Would appreciate your previous experiences.
  15. Thank you for your reply Rolla, to service it myself - what kind of oil and filter (brand & name) is best for the Camry?
