  1. well considering your dash is so sloped. When u put a single din motorised screen in, u would want it to be in an optimal view for you, so it would be upright, which means it will clear the aircon vents by around 7cm

I too have the 10th Gen Corolla but I have opted for the double din Pioneer head unit (AVH-P6850). The dash is at an angle but the driving position compensates for this, so with my unit no angle adjustment is needed.

I have seen 7" single din touch screen units that have in-built AM/FM functions. Im not sure if it played CD's but I know that you could operate some of the functions with the screen folded in. I remember it had RCA outputs to run the audio to an amp.

If you wanted to get the HU to get AM/FM then somthing like this example would be handy.

I have seen those units, but the problem with them is that they do not have vga input for the computer, and the picture looks crap when connected through the normal composite plug. also, i need to be able to use the touch screen as a mouse, which those units cannot do as there is no separate USB for that.

What are the main reasons why you want the head unit? If it is just for sound processing then maybe a 3Sixty.

I want the sound from the computer to go through the head unit. This is primarily to control the volume while I am driving. I do not want to be taking my eyes off the road to use the touch screen to control the volume, just need to be able to reach the knob. Also, I'll be connecting the Hu to a couple of amps and a sub, which seems a lot easier than from a comp sound card. Also, a bonus the convenience of knowing that if I feel like just listening to the radio or something, I can get by without actually using the comp

  3. hi guys,

i am putting in a carputer in my 2 month old corolla hatch. but i am faced with this issue, hope you'se can help...

firstly, the screen position. I am thinking of removing the double din stereo and replacing it with a single din one. the reason being I want to be able to put in a stereo and a motorised 7" screeen in there as well

my issue is that the screens that i am looking at fold out upwards. This means that if i have the screen at the bottom and the stereo on the top, then the stereo will be blocked when the screen is open (i need to be able to operate the volume etc)

if i put the screen on top, then the air con vents will be blocked as they are directly above the unit.

please see this pic to get a better ideapost-5903-1202362006_thumb.jpg

so, my question is...is there a way to do this in my car...

(just need to watch the first and last 10-15 seconds)

will the air con get it the way or will there be enough space? anyone tried something like this or know how much clearance there is under there?

  4. Hi all,

I am planning to install a car pc in my new hatchback rola and am contemplating putting an LCD screen behind the steering wheel. This screen would display all the relevant data like speed, fuel, rpm, etc among other things. B)

My question is, has anyone removed their dials before? if anyone has photos, it would be very helpful. I know I'll have to fabricate some sort of enclosure to fit in the gap once i remove everything, but I'm not quite sure what is behind that area in teh dash and how much space there is etc. I'm still in the planning stages and putting together a list of all the gadgets that will be required.

MODS, i know there is a forum for carputers but i felt it is a generally corolla related question, not a specific carputer related one, also the carputer forum is not that active. :D

  5. u got pics of the buttons? i cant imagine what it looks like...

it may be dissapointing, but youre definately not ripped off. if it doesnt work, thats 1 thing. but if you went out and intentionally bought a car that didnt have rear power windows in the first place, (perhaps 2 save a few bucks?) then im not suprised the rear power window upgrade looks aftermarket.

if i were you, i would have complained as soon as i picked up the car... no wait. i just would have avoided buying a car that didnt have rear power windows as standard in the first place.

i guess you can either live with it, or try 2 buy oem parts from the wreckers to make it look like it came standard with the car which means more $$$ spent, or trade in again for a corolla that came with the rear power windows as stock.

  6. not really, we just unhooked the back section to gain access to the aerial

none of that is necessary. all that is needed is to unscrew the stock aerial from the stub and screw on the cable that is underneath the shark fin. u then stick the shark fin directly above the stub with the adhesive tape provided and you're done. no need to get under the roof lining etc.

  7. hi all,

i got my car three weeks ago and part of teh package i got was power windows in teh rear.

i am a bit dissappointed as i was expecting a neat factory look, instead, i got small BLACK boxes for the switches in the rear attached to the door panel and switches attached to the dash next to teh mirror control for the driver controls, it is a very after market look and i just feel ripped off.

mind you, i love my car, everything else is great, but this just keeps nagging me. if i wanted after market looks, i could have got it cheaper getting them after market.

well, my question is, anyone else get this option? how did your car turn out? is it the same for the conquest and levin that have these as stnadard (i hope not)

if i take it back, do u think they can fix this issue?

  8. ok, here's an update. I dont think i made myself too clear now that i've gone back and read it

for the first question, i know that there are systems available with teh usb function, my isuue is that I don't want something that expensive. is there any way to use modify dvd head units to perform teh same tasks.

    hope this makes sense

  9. Hi all,

I am just about to embark on the car pc journey, and am very excited. It is going to be a slow "when time permits" project so we'll see how it goes.

I have a few questions to pick your brains. I have tried searching and googling but nothing seemed to jump out. May be I was just trying the wrong phrases

    NEway, here goes...

    1. Is it possible to use an in dash dvd player to act as an external drive for the pc? Anyone done something like this?? WHat I'm planning is to install teh pc in the boot and just using the dvd drive via a long usb cable, is this feasible?

    2. Is it best to connect the pc to the amp or to go through the head unit via aux inputs. I wanted to go with the second option as i'd like to control the volume etc through the headunit and it makes things easier as that is already all hooked up to the amp, sub etc. it would also save me the trouble of having 2 x inputs etc for teh amp.

    3. ANyone using Centrafuse? I've tried the demo version and am pretty happy with it. But it would be good to get some input from others that are using it day to day. Also, does teh gps in there have voice guided functions and voice commands? I can't use the demo version gps function as it have germany and us maps.

I'd really appreciate your input here guys. This is the first time i'm daring something like this. Any tips or advice or constructive criticism also very welcome

    Cheers

  10. Surely a courtesy message or email would be in order. Of course no one will know me yet since this is a virtual community and I've only been a member for a couple of months adn haven't been to any meets yet. Only had my car for like three weeks. There are better ways to approach this than to lock out the thread. The buy could have been offered to some other more known or trusted member to take up. This kind of behavior just makes new comers feel unwelcome. It is understandable that certain measures have to be taken to prevent fraud etc, but u need to have the right approach.

  11. Hi all,

This is just a quick note to all who replied and were interested in the group buy for the shark fin antenna. This is no longer going ahead as the thread has been locked by the moderators as I have not been a member for at least a year and do not have 500 posts to my credit.

I guess we'll all just need to get ours individually from the site, unless someone from the 78 eligible members out of the nearly 6000 want to take up the group buy.

    Thanks

  12. Hi guys,

I've been actively looking for a decent shark fin antenna to replace the stock. I did buy one off ebay that claimed to be operational, but turned out to be a decorative piece only

I think I've found a pretty decent one...wondering if there are others out there that want one too. If so, I'll probably organise a group buy. Please let me know by the end of the week so I can place the order.

Ideally, Sydney Only orders. It'll cost more to then post the rest individually to people elsewhere, but if you're keen on it, I don't mind. Also, let me know what colour please.

BTW, I had a look on the website and couldn't find the code for "Graphite" colour. NEone know what the US code for this colour is?

  13. I feel fur u brother...that is bad.

I got my car a couple of weeks ago and it came with a small jar of touch up paint. Not sure if this is standard, but if you don't have it, maybe you can find someone in your area with the same colour as yours...

Not sure how much the excess is for the insurance but I don't think claiming it for this is the way to go. Might affect your rating etc.

Someday, these people will get what's coming to them

  14. My family picked up our new Toyota Corolla Ascent sedan in Shimmer on Saturday from Stewart Toyota in Sutherland.

It's optionned with the Enhanced Safety Pack (dual side, curtain and driver's knee airbag) and Park Assist (for my mum) and an alarm.

It's only the second car I've ever driven (on my Ls) apart from the family Camry Altise V6, but I like it. Since I can't really say I've been in many cars, I can only compare it to the Camry.

It's definitely easier to drive and feels so much 'lighter'. Throttle response is also better too.

It's most probably slower than the Camry V6, but I haven't pushed the engine yet to let it run in. Noise levels are as quiet as the Camry until the 1.8L engine needs to be worked more, but like the 3.0L V6, it's very refined.

The ride is more stiff than the Camry, jiggling a bit more on rough roads. The electro-hydraulic speed sensitive power steering also works well, with a tighter (for obvious reasons) turning circle than the Camry.

Fit and finish are better and the cabin looks a bit more interesting compared to the Camry. although not exactly class leading stuff. There's more curved surfaces and sparing use of silver accents on materials, such as the door handles and next to the central dash. Seats are more supportive than the soft seats in the Camry, both front and back. I like the circular HVAC switches and the orange illumination 'theme' for the controls and the instrument cluster.

The cabin and the boot are nowhere near as big as the Camry, but we were never looking for a large car this time round anyway.

One particular shortcoming on this Corolla is that it only has manual rear windows, although it has power fronts and mirrors. I wished they made the rear power windows a few hundred dollars option, we probably would have paid for it, but would not go to the Conquest for 'unnecessary' things like spoiler and alloy wheels. Most of the extra money for the Conquest model probably goes to cosmetic bits anyway.

On the outside, the mini-new Camry styling up front works quite well in my opinion while the rear is pretty plain, with the exception of reflectors placed into the bumper. I'm also surprised that recently Toyota no longer make base models have disgusting unpainted black door handles, mirrors etc. like they did with the Camry that we have. It makes the car look a lot better. I would have preferred the 16 inch wheel cover design that comes on the Corolla in Europe though, rather than the 15 inch we have here.

Overall, I like the car quite a bit. I have yet to see a Corolla sedan on the road yet, although as the months go by, they will most certainly become more common.

We were looking at other small car sedans in the market as well, most notably the Yaris YRS sedan, the Mazda 3 Neo and the Honda Civic. What pushed us to get the Corolla was that it's a new model, (probably lasting for at least a 5 year product cycle before it is phased out) it had a 5-star Euro NCAP, the Yaris was a bit too small, the Civic was too 'unconventional' for my mum to like and it also had better pricing than the Mazda 3 which bundled together ESP together with extra airbags, which was a bit too pricey, and it also required $610 to get power windows and mirrors.

    hi,

I picked up my accent 2 weeks ago from terry shields in parramatta. I also got the advanced safety pack. I did however also got the rear power windows added and also alloys. One thing I don't understand, I was told by the dealers that toyota do not install factory alarm systems and that I need to go t some place like Strathfield etc to get one after market

Obviously, i should have asked around. Which brings me to wonder...why would they say something like that and lose out on even that little bit extra money that a customer is willing to spend???

  15. Thanks for the replies guys

Any idea if I can get the glass one installed after market? I just hate having to remove the thing every time i take my car through a car wash cause I always forget to put it back on

BTW, anyone have subs etc installed? I am thinking a mono-bloc for my current 12' sub, and another 6 channel for the speakers. I was wondering if one could install a set of 6x9 's or even 7x10 's on the parcel tray. Not sure how it'll work with the wiring etc

  16. Hi all, I'm a brand new first time Toyota owner and a nube to the forum. I take delivery of my car on Friday :yahoo:

I have a few questions about the audio system, hope someone can help...

How is the factory cd player? I intend to add a sub and a couple of amps. Anyone know how many RCA outputs it has (the aftermarket Sony on my current car only has 2).

Also, is it possible to replace the long ariel to the small one I've seen on some (expensive) cars? If so, where can i get one and can I install it myself.

    Thanx in advance guys.
