  1. All of the plastic bits in the LC200 are clip on.

the first bits to remove are the ashtray in front of the gear stick, then the two large side plastic covers then progress slowly. Use a fine long screwdriver to locate the lugs.

the electronics are all bolted in to the frame

    Hello everyone,

I'm installing an FM expander and would appreciate it if someone can help with how to remove the head unit/nav screen on the 2008 Land Cruiser.

    Thanks.

  2. The LC200 Sahara has a satnav screen and a dvd changer. It will play a dvd movie when the vehicle is stopped and the handbrake is on.

Aparently there are 2 switches that will return the satnav screen to satnav mode from dvd mode. There is one for the handbrake and also one somewhere else. However if you defeat the handbrake switch the dvd movie will play but as soon as the vehicle starts moving it switches to satnav mode. Moving the gear stick does not change anything while the vehicle is stationary.

  3. Have just discovered that the LC200 Sahara (maybe on VX nd GXL too) side mirrors dip to assist in reversing when reverse gear is selected. However this will only occur when the side mirror electric control lever is pushed to the left. (maybe will work if pushed to right too).

  4. Does this mean that you are NOT approaching the suggested 10/100 fuel economy and so the advertising should be 13/100 or thereabouts.

    Would that be right??

    Right in some respects.

the advertising does say that fuel consumption will change due to driving style, conditions etc etc.

Quoted 10L per 100km (average) is the consumption reached when tested to ARD specifications. But Real world driving - I have achieved 13L/100km when I am the only occupant and driving on highway (when 6th gear will be used from time to time). Around town I will get 15L/100km. But sometimes I can get 5L/100km sometimes 30L/100km. In the end the average fuel consumption is the most important.

There is nothing magic about fuel consumption. A VW Golf 2.0L TDi has an engine about half LC200, weighs half of LC200 and actually gets about 5L/100km on highway, 6-7L/100km around town - which is about half the LC200. Nothing magical. If someone quotes some amazing figures it is usually dodgy. If it sounds too good to be true....

  5. My LC200 diesel will shift to 6th on the highway at about 115kmh so long as the highway is not on an incline and I am not towing anything.

It's actually a double overdrive. 4th gear is direct drive 1:1 ratio, 5th is overdrive at about 0.75:1 and 6th is the 2nd overdrive at about 0.58:1

This is why the petrol LC200 can't have this particular 6 speed auto because it cannot (like all petrol engines) generate enough torque to drive 6th gear at such high ratios at 1600rpm which is the engine speed at 110kmh.

Even in the diesel 6th gear will not be used much.

I am about to seal a deal to buy a Sahara 200 Diesel with 6 Speed Auto. Small problem is that Saturdays Herald-Sun (Melb) had a article which claimed that the 6th Gear would only engage at speeds above 120 kph. Therefore fuel economy on Highway was around 13.1/100.

Is this a problem that others are aware of?

  6. LC100 roof racks will not fit LC200. The distance between the bolts are narrower in the LC200.

Essentially the OEM roof racks are rhinorack originated. So if you have rhino commercial bars they will fit, but Toyota will only sell you the rack system complete with bars.

Does anyone know if the LC 100 roof racks will fit the LC 200. I have looked at pics for the LC 200 and they look very very similar to my LC 100 racks, to the point where I think they are identical. Dont want to buy new racks if I dont have to. Can any one help.
