  1. but wore are you tyres anyway? and its also the fact ur have a 19' dish and a wider profile hence the road noise...

mine is has about 40%< thread left hence the roar... (highway speed really kills the thread quick...)

the ZE suppose to have a long thread light with a rating of 400 compared to 200 for the Potenzas, so i kinda expected the road noise...

The tyres (front) on these rims are not so new now but I know they will be noisier until run down a bit, but I previously had 19" rims that weren't deep dish and they were noisy with Falken tyres also.

I accept the wider tyre must make more noise and to be honest, as I said, on my own I don't care really, but I reckon I can get an equal or better tyre that is less noisy.

Without sounding like a *****, the cost of replacing the tyres is not the issue (though like for everyone it's a consideration) it's getting an improvement without losing performance. With the combo I have now I hardly ever lose traction on take off and never at speed or cornering. I chewed out the first front set in a year (45k) and the rears are still the first set though nearly due for replacement.

I did start rotating the tyres every 15k but got some many issues with bad balancing and alignment I ended up just sticking to the best configuration until the fronts wore out.

I would point out I don't thrash the car, but I don't hand around either and the tyre compound is soft so I expected 40-45k at best.

On a side issue, I have started talking with a performance tyre place about replacements and alignment and balancing and all things tyres. Something they have said to me about balancing these bigger wheels is that most places only balance through the hub, not the studs. This can make a big difference if the machines doesn't fit the hub perfectly.

  2. You know I have never had this "kick in" I drive fairly aggressively within the law if you know what I mean but I have never experienced this and only once the ABS also??

Can you describe a scenario where you are able to force this to happen cos' I'll go try it

Those three words there kind of say a fair bit. Now I don't suggest driving like a hoon and putting yourself and others at risk, but for traction control to kick in on normal dry road (and you have alright tires), you need to push it past it's limits (ie. take a corner way faster than the speed limit). Also, wet roads makes it easier as well.

Hahaha I figured that! Next time it's wet or I'm on a lonely road I will kick it in the &$*& and see what we get B)

  3. I also have Falken on my Yaris ZE something :P but yeah it is noisy when travelling chipped roads, so looking to change the tyres + getting 15' wide alloys for the car too...

My old man got himself 2 sets of Toyos Teo for his IS200, not sure how grippy compared to the top tier tyres but they are pretty quiet when i sat in the car...

Thanks Speedz, it's good to know it's not just my car! I will be looking around to see what's available and noise & performance will be top of the question list.

  4. My 245/35/R20 Yokohama Advance Sport 103 are as quiet as a mouse and smooth as a babys azz and i'm not just sayin that because i've got em,part of the reason i shelled out the coin for these bad boys was that they are very quiet, safe, load rated, comfortable, and bloody heaps of grip. :)

the pitfall on having these tyres is about $600 a corner and i'm thinking 19'' in your size would be about $550 a corner. :(

    Thanks for that, interesting.

The Falkens weren't cheap either but I will replace all 4 to get a quieter ride. I've always like Bridgestone because I have had HSV's in the past, but I know Yokohama a very good tyres.

  5. Long time no see ppl.

I accidentally sold my car to my brother.

He wanted my aurion so badly and I jsut sold it.

I bought another car last weekend and I just wanted to say thank you for all your help especially DJKOR. ;)

If my brother's got problem with his aurion, I might come and have a look for the solution for him.

But from my side, it seems like I will hardly come and talk to you guys.

Thanks again guys for your comments when I have problems with my Aurion.

P.S. If anyone wants coilover review, I would review them for you. :D

    See ya JIN

I haven't done it yet, but your trials with the coil overs gave me confidence to go down that path one day, so thanks for that and good luck with your new ride.

I have been considering the possibility of trading my car on a new Lexus IS250 Electra Manual. I would be interested in your feedback if you get time to drop by some time.

  6. Hi All

I have 245 wide 40 profile Falken tyres on the 19" rims as per my signature photo.

On smooth road they make a whirring sort of noise that is fine and acceptable but on heavy or even moderate chip roads they are very noisy. I don't mind it because it sounds like grip to me and I like that but people who come in the car with me comment that it seems noisy.

I always say "well, wide wheels and extra traction have a price to pay" but I was wondering does anyone else finds their cars noisy as in road noise and is there a lot of difference between brands re road noise and if so what tread pattern should I look for that would be quieter without sacrificing grip performance.

I can't remember what the original 215 Michelin's on the 17" rim's sounded like now though I still have them.

  7. im the same as you daryl... my car lets me go nuts until it starts to get dangerous and then it kicks in...

it seems like for the first 20000kms it was all tight and restrictive, and now it just lets you go...

You know I have never had this "kick in" I drive fairly aggressively within the law if you know what I mean but I have never experienced this and only once the ABS also??

Can you describe a scenario where you are able to force this to happen cos' I'll go try it

  8. awd would be alot slower, heavier + power lost through drive train

manual and RWD ftw. i would start cleaning my car now to trade tomorrow

Yeah your right, but then it would be a Lexus and would be weighed down with every bit of electronic stuff they could possibly fit into a car so probably 6 to 1 and well so on as far as weight goes...

  9. and here is another wald kit which looks diffrent on photo's

    AUR30N

Yeah I like that rear on that car. It's very clean looking which as I said before the white Aurion without the spoiler (just the boot lip) looks very cool indeed! I think your also right about the black eyelids, they wouldn't be as good on a white car.

And it's great we can all express some individuality with our cars. Where I am there is no Toyota club or mob of Aurion owners, but I imagine when there is a good size gathering of Aurions, all different colours with different wheels, tints, spoilers, lowered or not it must look incredible!

  10. Paul sorry mate didn't mean it in bag way just my prefrence and like you said each to there own.

so no harm meant from this post even if it may sound like it.

    AUR30N

Naaah I wasn't offended, I still think my "blacks" are the best. I just wanted to point out they weren't just unpainted, they are colour coded too.

Both styles look cool I think.

  11. colour coded look hot and make it part of the car. love your stlye , when there black un painted they look like there just been stuck on and look out of place and make the car look cheap.

    AUR30N

Each to their own of course, but just a point here where you are wrong. The black eyelids are not "un painted"

When you buy these they come in a creamy plastic white colour. The black is colour coded to the black on the car. On my car the black needed some gold added in to make it the same as all the other black trim.

  12. Hey. Sorry to revive the old thread, but I think the time is appropriate; plus I'm giving Rowan an indication that he needs to post here when he gets the chance.

The good 'ol Aurion is still holding up strong. Last night Rowan and I took ours to the drags (my first time, Rowan's second) and were able to obtain some revised figures.

My best run was my third one which was 14.397s @ 98.06mph

    dsc03784.jpg

Rowan on the other hand... well, where are you?

Edit: I don't know much about the drags, but one thing I noticed was that I was consistently getting a trap speed of just a little more than 1mph higher than Rowan, despite him getting faster times. I know it is not a significant amount, but I can't quite wrap my head around what factor adds to this. Is it caused by a faster gain in speed down low, or up high?

Hey thanks for the post and pic...

I know nothing about the drags other than I love the sound, smell and power :D

Can you explain what I am looking at on the time slip.

Is that times for you and another car? Are you Comp Cams?

The drag is over a qtr mile isn't at or 1,320 feet, which time is for that?

Are you matched up against like for like cars.

The MPH (KPH) is that at the time designated

I know this probably all seems a bit obvious but I am interested to fully understand.

The whole idea of taking my car to the drags is exciting.

Oh BTW you have an intake and exhaust mod, do you think these showed any advantage??

    Thanks

    Paul

  13. In reply to PaulMT: Prior to Toyota detecting these dash rattles on your recent service, ever since you had the first 'fix', have you personally noticed any extra yourself? If you haven't, then I would leave it as is. If you did notice that the dash rattles weren't resolved though, then you can think about whether you want to get it re-done or not.

I didn't mean to kick off another "dash Rattle" thread and I realise I now I shouldn't have used that heading

When I went in to have my service I told them there was a bit of a rattle coming from the drivers "B" pillar so I was surprised to see the dash thing raise it's head again.

DJKOR your right, I won't be having the dash pulled out again. It is basically fixed though this Aurion is by far the rattliest car I have had for many years. I forgive all this because it's so much fun to drive and a cool looking car all round.

I am surprised their records didn't show that they had done the Toyota Clip thing but in any case I'll go talk to them and tell them the error they have made.

One thing that is coming out of the "hard times" we are supposedly in is that the dealers are definitely trying to pick up their game. I don't get the car service by the dealer I bought it from because their competition is closer to my work, but both are mailing me all sorts of deals to get my business. Might be a good time to go and talk about a Lexus with them :D

  14. I had my car in for it's 45k service today.

I didn't look at the bill as my company that I work for pays for the servicing but I keep a copy and I didn't have time to discuss anything with the Toyota dealer.

I was looking at it tonight and they say " Rattle detected in Dash during road test, clips ordered, customer to be advised"

This would be great for me, except I had the dash rattle way back and was one of the first to have the Toyota "fix"

My Aurion SX6 has a few annoying rattles, but I have grown used to it and my new sounds fixes most distracting noises

but I am wondering whether I should let them go ahead and do it again or am I looking for trouble having the dash ripped out again - it's been out twice in it's life so far?

  15. Looks great Paul :toast: ,when ya gunna lower it or is she staying stock in that department?

My car is part of my work so I have to stay reasonably stock though I am very tempted I must say. Even 20-30mm would look good B)

  16. Nice Aurion. I did like your last set of rims, but these are good as well. And you were the trendsetter for the black eyelids on the Aurion eh? :P

Awww I don't know, I just followed with the eye lids really, but I think I just got my order away quicker :D

I am glad I stuck with my instinct about painting them black though!

  17. Here's my Aurion

What have I done since buying it new in February 2008?

19x8 Rims with Falken 245x40 Tyres

    30% Tints

    7" JVC DVD HD

4x Fusion Speakers with 10" Fusion Sub

650W Main Amp, 900W Sub Amp
