  1. I currently hold a Caltex Star Card from Work and have been using it for the Aurion ever since I got it, just with Vortex 98, which I think is a very good fuel. Whenever I can't find it, which sometimes occurs in the country areas, I use Vortex 95, which has the same detergents, just not the higher octane. Well, there have been some changes with our 'fleet', and there is a big possibility I will soon have to choose between a BP card or a Shell Card. Could people please advise what they think is a 'better' fuel for an Aurion? I have heard great things about BP Ultimate, and have heard that Shell V Power can sometimes be inconsistent. I'm in Sydney, so if anyone knows much about that area, it would be apprecaited. I'd love to hear about peoples experiences with 'high octane' fuels and whether they think the BP or Shell version is better, or if the Caltex Vortex 98 is the best?
  2. Recently across Sydney, people might have noticed that Shell is installing a digital component onto their price board advertising the cost of unleaded, when a 4cpl discount ticket is used. However, it is now becoming common for them to advertise the price of their discounted (4cpl) E10 and not regular. They then have the standard E10 yellow box and the unleaded is then underneath. Diesel and AutoGas have disappeared and you know have to drive to the pump to see the price. Discount E10: (digital red numbers) UnleadedE10: (Black on gold background) Unleaded: (Black on gold background) This is extremly deceptive as it is luring customers into the site under the impression of cheap fuel. These red digital numbers stand out really well at night, and are almost unmissable. So if you see a shell next to another station and from a distance the cost at shell is about 7-8cpl cheaper than the other site, they probably have the ethanol advetised. Has anyone else noticed this? Just something to watch out for!
  3. I emailed woolworths petrol through their website woolworthspetrol.com.au. with my question over the quality of fuel and if it is from Caltex This was the response I got: ------------------------------------- Hello John, Many thanks for your email which has been forwarded onto the Woolworths Petrol Division and apologise for the delay in responding to you. All fuel sold through Woolworths and Safeway co-branded sites is supplied to Woolworths / Safeway by Caltex Australia. This includes all petrol products, diesel and LPG. The fuel is supplied direct to site from Caltex terminals across Australia, and they are the same terminals that supply Caltex owned sites that are not part of the Caltex Woolworths alliance network. There is no difference in fuel quality between Woolworths sites and Caltex sites. Regards Woolworths Petrol Customer Feedback. --------------------------------------------------
  4. I had heard that rumour too. The way I see it, why would Caltex sell the 'normal' Vortex at a Star Mart, but then sell an inferior product at the Woolowrths still known as Vortex? This seems like poor business to me. If this was true, why would they sign with Woolworths in the first place. Secondly, why would they rip-off the Star Card holders, by enabling them to buy dodgy fuel at Woolworths-Caltex sites (originally woolies sites) ?
  5. Thanks Taka, interesting. I did a freeway trip last week on Shell E10 and got 10.3L. Very similar to you!!! I'll try the 98 next time and post back. I generally only use Caltex, does any one have experience with Vortex premium (95) v Vortex 98. Is the 98 worth the 4 extra cents/L in price difference?? Thanks
  6. Hi all, I was wanting to find out if anyone knows if a Caltex-Woolworths will sell the same quality of fuel as a normal Caltex (like a Star Mart) does? In Sydney, I know of a suburb where there is a Caltex-Woolworths (which used to be a Woolworths Plus petrol) and then 2 shops up is a Caltex Star Mart, both selling the same fuels. (Vortex 95 & 98) Do all Caltex sites in the same area stock the same fuel, or do the sites that were originally Woolworths plus petrol sites still sell the crap from Malaysia they did before the merger? I only ask becuase I'm thinking of using Vortex 95 and want to know that if I use a 4cent voucher from Woolies I will still get the same quality as my local Star Mart. I can't imagine Caltex selling two differnet types of Vortex 95 with one being inferior Any help with this would be appreciated, as I don't want to use crap, and I just want to save a buck or two Thanks
  7. Hi all, We've just bought a new 2008? model KX-R? (the base model). The handbook says that 91 octane regular does the job, and on the fuel door, there is a sticker saying that E10 is suitable. However, yesterday I was speaking to our mechanic who services our older car. When we mentioned the new Kluger (how we service through Toyota) he said that we should put premium in. Now I don't know if I should use premium 95 or ultra high premium 98 (like V-Power and BP Ultimate). I'm in Sydney and I only ever use the big 4 chains (BP, Caltex, Shell, Mobil). I know the 98's have additives in them (detergents), and the 95's don't except for Caltex Vortex (which, with a Woolies docket could be good value!), so would the Vortex 95 be a good idea if I don't need the octane? If anyone has any expeiences or ideas that would be great, so what fuel do you use for your Kluger? and what premium brand is the best?? Thanks for any help
