  1. Thanks for the advice. I've been just topping it off with 150mls a month, do you think this rate of oil loss is too high? I'm in WA so it doesn't visit the pits yearly so rego is not a problem... i remember doing a few of them its no fun spose you could let it go on for a while but itll only get worse over time and leak more but as long as you keep an eye on the oil level every week youll be fine 227k isnt bad for a rav ive seen rear mains go with ravs half those klms last time it took me around 2 days to change one and that was an auto obviously if its a manual the oil leak will cause problems with your clutch
  2. Hi All....... my Rav 4 is seeping/dripping oil from what would seem to be the main rear seal... A fix seems to require a lot of exensive labor... removing the engine, etc... a friend who's a handy mechanic says to let it go and top it off if the oil level drops... She's a great machine with 227k km on her so I'm really worried about damaging the engine by not getting it fixed... anyone want to chip in with some advice on how long I can let her seep without problems? Any one know how much it costs to do the job? thanks!
  3. Thx for the info, I think your right about the price. I'm in Perth, WA
  4. I've been searching high and low for a camry wagon and I think I found a good one but I've got a few concerns which i don't know enough about to make a decision... It's a 1994 CSi 2.2l 158,000 km for $5500 (private sale) It runs well, shifts smoothly, handles like new, except: - mild but bobbly vibrations at about 50kms seemingly prior to shifting, the owner says he had the engine mounts replaced at 120,000 kms, and it's been there since then. It causes the side view mirror to vibrate to a point where you can't see clearly in it. - their is some minor squeeking in the brakes when you slow but only just before you stop... the owner pointed it out, I didn't even notice, but he spent a bit of time trying to explain it... I asked him why it was happening and he said he doesn't know anything about it, which I thought stange because he said he had recently replaced the brakes and fixed the rotors himself. - you can see oil seep (looks minor, but I don't know when the engine was last cleaned)where the head gasket would be. He said the car had overheated once but that it was fixed and the engine was tested. I'm worried I'll have to buy a new engine if I make the wrong decision! help! thanks
