  1. Thanks guys,

Police just called me on the weekend, apparently they have a positive match on the plates!!!! :D just waiting for my witness to visit his local police station and give his testiment.

I'll just leave all the work to the cops for the moment, and hopefully hear from them soon

Im pretty sure if the accident is not your fault you only have pay the basic excess (usually $450-$500) if you cant find the other driver. Age excess etc if its only your fault. Plus if your mum drives into your car, she doesnt have pay any excess at all cuz she is family, some loop hole cuz you cant claim against your family.

  2. i think the only thing that has a chance against the type R is the fto gp version R

yeahh i wanna see these stats too. lol theres heaps of "stats" and they all vary so i dont bother with them anymore. a celica was a 15.8second car and i broke that with a 15.2 so i dont belive them lol.

15.2 should be a stock dc2r? iv seen dc2r's break into the 14's stock easily.

btw while were at it, who u rekon will win corollasportivo/celica vs fto gpx.

my mates got on but its trip so yea =/ cant compare :P

    sry for hijackin thread xD

FTO WTF? Ive destroyed every FTO ive been against (All V6 manuals). Is the ver R different?

I think in MOTOR they have the Sportivo with a 16sec quarter, but most seem to be low 15 sec, high 14 sec cars.

  3. dang...i think i bought the wrong LED's. i bought T5. and i tried to take out the console it seems that something is holding it back.i have unscrew everything. hmmm abit confusing :(. mine is corolla ascent. is it different on how to do it compare to sportivo?

Some1 has done a DIY on taking a non sportivo dash out somewhere on the forums so have a search, ive taken one out before but cant quite remember. If they are the wrong leds, go to dk smith n get Z4024 leds.

But yeah it comes perfectly even and a nice bright red. Best thing they wont fade. I had hard time not looking at the dash tnite driving home from work.

  4. Fark me, im pretty sure this question has been covered on this forum a million times.

It pretty obvious the Type R is gonna be better, it was like 15 grand more expensive than the than stivo new. But then if was gonna spend an extra 15 grand I'd much rather buy a WRX.

As for stock Stivos, they handle like a boat and there is no way they will handle like a Type-R. Spend only a couple grand and you will probably outhandle a Type-R. Ive only spent around $700 and it outhandles most other cars on the road. Specialized32 has stock springs, with whiteline front and rear sway bars plus a strut brace and it handles awsome, especially considering it has a 4x4 ride height ( i think he only spent around $500).

  5. dude thats awesome ...

    instructions and pics ...

this really needs to be in the workshop bit ... its awesome ....

Im having the same prob now where the color is fading .... this is tops

can you guys please try and post in the right sections...:)

Sorry Northy, I thought you liked moving 'em :)

  6. I got sick of covers and hobby paint pading on my console globes so I converted them to LED.

    You can see it here

    http://www.imagestation.com/album/pictures...l?id=2105136526

Its a bit fidly but this is how I did it.

1.Went to ***** Smith n bought the following:

    -Soldering Iron ($13)

    -Solder ($2)

    -10 X 5mm Super bright 2V 16000mcd LEDs Z4024 ($2 each)

-10 x 560Ohm Resistors R0568 (6c each) (with different LED voltages you need different resistors, I think if the they are 3V you need 470 ohm resistors)

2.Took out the console and gear stick surround.

3.Took out the globes, n undid the little wire legs using tweezers

4.Pulled out the globes, kept the little plastic screw globe holders and replaced them with LEDs

5.Wraped the negative end of the led leg around the plastic holder end and trimmed it to fit.

6.Trimmed the postive leg of the led and trimmed the resistor. Solder the resistor to the postive end of the LED. Wrap the end of the resistor around platic holder.

7.Press down the legs ends on the plastic holders with plyers, otherwise they will be too thick to screw in.

8.Make sure that neither end of the LED or resistor is touching the other (positive or negative, or positive b4 resistor) otherwise you will cause a short circuit or blow the LED.

9.Do the same thing for the rest, cig lighter surround and ash try if you want too

    10. Now the LEDs are polar so they wont work the wrong way around, so ive done a diagram showing the + and -ve terminals. With cig ligher just swap it around till it works.

11.I placaed some electrical tape to cover the lights along the center so the wouldnt S/C with the top circuit board.

    12. You will need to bend the leds straight down for the LCD displays otherwise you will see little rings. The others you leave straight or angle a little.

13.Reinstall and test. If some dont work swap them around till you have the right polarity. If that doesnt work, re-check your LEDs + and - are soldered to the correct end of the resistor. If that doesnt work, get a new LED and start again.

    14.Enjoy

If you attempt to do this mod be careful cuz you can probably blow up your climate control unit if you do it wrong (very expensive). Again I take no resonsibility and I reccomend you consult a profesional cuz I aint one.

  7. Specilized32 & I installed mesh grills facelift STIVOs weekend.

    Have a look here

    http://www.imagestation.com/album/pictures...l?id=2105147152

    Its pretty easy to do.

We bought 2 sections of mesh from Autobarn ($30). Specialzed got Black mesh and I got Silver mesh. Bought a glue gun ($17) n some glue sticks ($2) and a set of staight cut tin snips ($16).

    Here is the procedure

1.Take off the bumpers (3-5 minute job).

2.Unclip the black inserts in the grills.

3.Mark out the mesh n cut to a size larger than the hole.

4.You will notice that these tabs stick out so will need to cut hole in the mesh to fit em in (you could also grind off the tabs but we didn't).

5.Install the mesh n wrap around the edges.

6.Put daps off glue between the mesh n the bumper.

7.If you have a black car you dont have a prob, but with silver you could see the tabs, so specialized32 used a touch up pen and painted the tabs black.

    9.Put the bumper back on.

    10.Enjoy your new grills.

  8. I'd close this too. Do a search maybe it will give u an answer (I doubt it though). A CES thread never ends well. Just remember every car is a little different and dyno charts dont always tell the whole truth.

  9. well vitagen what exactly did you get HID wise? (brand, price etc) i didnt want to go with HID's cause of past experiences people have had with them (talk to zav) having said that maybe the actual kit wasnt any good? (sorry zav no offence) wierd how you and bangn have no problems with your kits

What are u on about. You probly saw my kit before I aimed it right, then broke my left right/adjustment on my headlight cuz I tryed too aim to far right (I wanted to see around corners lol). There was nothing wrong my HID kit other than it was 6000K. Prob try a 4300K kit cuz the higher u go up in K's the less u see and the brighter to oncoming traffic your lights are. 6000K is good compromise between 4300K and 8000K and it looks very nice. Alot of people with higher K lights dont notice the reduced visability till they get in another car. Prob sort of like when when you thought your MTEC globes made it better to see at night till I showed u my stock lights. Also alot of people dont mind the compromise to get extra white or blue, but reduced visability. Its a personal preferenence. I personally believe u need a bit of yellow, but at d moment dont wana fork out 300 bux without actually physically siting in another 4300K HID corolla, and observing thats the HID kit I want. At moment I'm happy with stock since I have raised them a little higher than factory, but not too high so that I blind people, plus I dont have s**t my dacks everytime I go through a booze bus.

  10. You know how you can get stuck pixels on lap top screens and psp's etc.. Does any one have these on there aircon/fan LCD display in the center console ?

I've got 4 pixels that are constantly turned on, and some times it makes reading the temperature difficult and was wondering whether I should mention it to the dealer before my warranty runs out at the end of the year.

Just wondering if this is a common problem in sportivos or not. I've got a feeling that hot summer days may have caused this...

reminds me of specilized32s oven. The screen is so stuffed, intead of flashing 00:00, it flashes help on the clock display.

  11. when you open the headlight is it separate bits or did you have to mask the areas off that you didnt want black

I took off the indicator plastic cover, then masked behind that side the indicator so it still reflects. The suround is screwed onto the lense from memory, but its easy to work out what to do.

  12. awesome dude... ok final question... what did u actually paint it with? what kind of paint? did u use clear coat? with a brush or what? haha sorry man i just dont wanna stuff mine up!

It was spray high temp paint in black. I cant remember the name but specialised32 may no since he bought it. No clear coat, since it comes out a nice mat black.

  13. nice! i used a heatgun for mine too ages... does the plastic surround of your light look all buggered up or is it like how it was orginally?

and is 170 degrees for a fan forced over or a non fan forced??

Looks absolutely stock, its not funny. We didnt bugger up anything, its like a brand new headlight. It even looks better in person.

It was fan forced, but you have to turn it off, so i dont think it makes a difference.

It looks really nice on silver too.

  14. I couldnt get my levels right cuz I broke my left-right adjustment, but I fixed it up when I did the headlight mod. But yeah I found them too bright and made me nervous around cops. I was going to get the 4300k HID headlights, but discovered that my visibily was much better with my stock globes, and my high beam was much more visible since I didnt need to lower the headlight beam so much. But I agree the higher Kelvin you go the less visibility you have. Would need to see a Rolla with 4300K HIDs first before I go back to HID.

But yeah those MTEC globes you bought look nice but u lose visibility and the same goes for like most higher Kelvin lights. I've searched the internet for the last couple of months and if you want a nice white light, that lasts more than a year and has good visibilty go for a Phillips Blue Vision (Not crystal vision or diamond vision since you lose visibility and they dont last that long). If you want extra visibility and lifespan buy a set of phillips vision plus globes, but these arent all that white.
