Im close to ordering a new Altitiude and want to upgrade the standard system with a 6 CD / ipod capability / bluetooth function system. Obviously, I can upgrade to the Toyota 6 CD / bluetooth system or go aftermarket which is probably better quality and maybe even a little cheaper.

:o Don't order the Toyota unit, its garbage and not particularly cheap. Search through the forum, this has been mentioned a few times. JVC & Kenwood make better units.

I had the same problem with my KXR with 17" tyres. Noticed the wear problem about 29K, had the dealer do a wheel alignment at 30K and rotated the good tyres from back to front. Flaming dealer service was useless , same problem after 5000K so I took it to my usual mechanic who knows what he is doing. Tyre Pressure - I run 35psi all round, provides good wear, contact and roll.

Look through topic posts from 2008, you'll find a JVC & Kenwood 6 stacker with Bluetooth model numbers. DO NOT buy the Toyota unit, it is not money well spent (also previously mentioned). For side steps, have a look on Ebay. I don't know what the weathershields for the rear doors are like but the front doors are fairly useless and again can be found much cheaper on Ebay.

Highly recommend factory floor mats and the rear rubber mat in the cargo area.

Regarding dashboard rattle, I had a rattle from the middle of the dash near the trip computer and near the driver's side pillar. Turned out to be broken clips that holds the dash in place, fixed under warranty. <_<

I've had it paried with HTC, ZTE, Nokia, Blackberry and Sony. It seems to work the best with Sony and if you are not moving very fast.

I've used it quite a lot with my Samsung D900 with no complaints. Maybe there's volume setting in the phone you can adjust to increase volume?

I was told by more than 1 car stereo store that Parrot bluetooth units were the only ones they had found that worked properly with most phones. That was one of the reasons I upgraded the KX-R stereo to a Kenwood unit; Kenwood uses a Parrot bluetooth module. I have found that everything works perfectly with my Kenwood unit with the 3 different phones I have, SonyEricsson, Motorola and Nokia. That includes SMS, phonebook synchronisation(does it every time you connect, automatically) and call lists.

In the Grande, all things work properly with the Sony, but not everything with the others.

I was also able to mount the microphone in the same location as the Grande and it is as clear as when not using bluetooth.

Some Pioneer head units also use Parrot, so between the 2 brands you have a lot of choices that are better than upgrading to the KX-S head unit.

<_< All of the settings that can be adjusted have been but to no avail. Had I known, I would have purchased either the JVC or Kenwood unit aftermarket and not bothered with the alleged upgrade. It really need a seperate external microphone. If I find out anything, I'll let you know.

There must be many of us heading into the 10,000km service by now. Or some of us have been and done it already. I'm at the 9,000 mark.

What were the key items you requested to be attended too. I would be interested know and I guess other members might benefit to know.

My two are,

1st 6 stacker bluetooth unit has the person I'm talking too struggling to hear me. They say my voice is shallow and weak.

2nd Numerous dash rattles/plastic tweaks within the dash, especially around the edges of dash and the joint above the centre air vent with the dash are occurring and almost every day it seems.

New one appear whilst a previous one may disappear for a few days. Outside temperature seems to be playing a major role here. Today under the steering wheel area produced non stop rattles thats my passengers even comment on.

But I love the vehicle totally, so it's not a whinge post.

Ours has done 25000km, mostly on trips from Canberra to Adelaide, (sometimes straight through, sometimes with a break half way). Only items which required attention at the 2 services we have had are .... armrest breaking, and dash rattles. Dash rattles took two trips to the dealer to get sorted and now there is not a murmur. Armrest was fixed by having the whole drivers side door panel replaced. Have not had anyone complain about Bluetooth reception, but then again our microphone is in the console between the sunvisors not down on the dash. Only mod which we have done is changed the air filter to K&N drop-in and we always have all 5 tyres rotated at the service. Could not be happier with the vehicle. It is extremely comfortable for the cruising we do and is relatively economical on our trips ... 10.03lt/100 (9.96kls/ltr or 28.3mpg). Glad we purchased a Kluger Grande.

<_< Expect little joy in resolving you bluetooth problem. I had the same problem, I've my unit replaced and still have the same issues that you speak of. I've had it paried with HTC, ZTE, Nokia, Blackberry and Sony. It seems to work the best with Sony and if you are not moving very fast. My understanding is that it is a common issue that they cannot address, the only fix would be if the unit had a port at the back for a seperate microphone that has greater sensitivity. Worst $800 upgrade I spent, which was mainly for the bluetooth.

To date still no resolution to the excessive front left outside wear.

Anyone else having problems? Has it been fixed? Im looking at the 2nd replacement and the cars barely done 19k's!

At 1000km's i was getting feathering of the front right outside tyre. Took it back to dealer for wheel alignment. Still only 1500km's and will see over time weather it is an ongoing problem. Hope not.

<_< I think it worthwhile to keep nagging the Toyota Service. The 17's on my car are wearing a little more in the middle than on the rest of the tyre (I've now got 33Ks). The service mgr tells me that because of the high sidewalls, the tyres tend to roll / deform more when cornering than a normal car tyre. I can accept that but not sure about why they wear more in the middle. Wheel alignments are a bit of an art, I'd suggest going to a suspension specialist rather than the Toyota dealer if you continue to have problems

I had the dealer fit genuine Toyota reverse parking sensors on my KXR. There is a switch in the cargo section that allows me to turn off the sensors when towing .

2007 KXR - 2WD with 30K on the speedo. Has averaged 10.3 l /100km since new in combination suburban (incl. stop-start) & highway driving. I do 110 on the the motorway. On long trip out to Dubbo, again trying to stay at 100 -110, averaged 9.3. Great for the size of the car.

An interesting topic - one not really appreciated as to how important it can be. I've been a emergency services driving instructor for 18 yrs, both road (including high speed) & 4WD.

On road - normal tyres (ie: not low profile under 60 series) a good compromise is 35psi all round. This is called the KISS principle and makes it easy to remember, especially for the other / better halves on the rare occasion they do check the tyres. The other suggestion is that you either buy a good quality pressure gauge or use the electronic versions found at many servos now. Preferably use try to use the same machine for consistency. I use 35 psi all round in my KX-R and have 30K on the speedo with good even wear. I did the same in my old X-trail and was getting 70K out of a set. As someone else said, wheel alignment is also critical. Low profile tyres - 40 or 42 psi all round but you don't want it feeling like a skate board when you drive it, if it does its over inflated so drop the pressure a little.

Off-road - depends on where you are driving. You can buy after market tyre deflators that are pre-set at 18 psi for rocks and sand. Any lower and you risk the chance of the tyre coming off the rim. If you have to drive on road with such low pressure, slow speed until the first servo and pump them up.

B) Gaz, have a look through the forum. From memory, early last year one of the contributors found a JVC unit that fitted into the dash perfectly. I'm glad you didn't repeat my mistake of upgrading to the KX-S stereo for bluetooth. The stereo quality is okay not great but I mainly got it for the bluetooth - they don't like Nokia, Blackberry or ZTE (Telstra) phones. Its clear but you sound like you are at the other end of a tunnel. I finally managed to get the unit replaced and still have the same problem. Hope this helped. Pete

I am look to fit an aftermarket stereo into my KX-R

From my initial research I beleive toyota uses a double din size to fit in, which is ok.

My question/s are

1 Do you have to buy an adapter kit for the fascia / dash so as to match it upwith the rest of the car ? and if so where do you get them from ?

2 Do the aftermarket stereo systems have the ability to use the steering wheel controls ?

I am wanting a stereo with blutooth capabilty, but am also interested in dvd/gps functions

Here's an update on the current situation. I took our KX-S in for its first service last week and had Bluetooth mic sensitivity on the list for attention. When I spoke to the service guys they said there was a known fault with the 6 stacker ( they had reported 20 complaints to TMCA), that Fujitsu 10 were working on a fix but they had no idea when it would be ready.

Frankly thats not good enough, how long should we have to wait? They have acknowledged the unit is faulty and therefore its not fit for purpose. they should therefore replace the unit with one that does work or give me compensation so I can go and buy one that does work.

I'll try calling Deparment of Fair Trading for some advice, and will of course keep the forum posted as developments occur.

Good luck, I just haven't had time to do that yet. My unit seems to work okay on one occasion then terrible the next without reason. The mechanic told me to keep complaining and get it replaced. I'm also going to try another dealer to see if they are any better.

Thanks guys. I had my Nokia serviced and the latest software installed. It seems a little better. I've only ever paired up while standing still, the stereo unit is too big a pain to even try that while moving. Sony Ericssen phone seem to work fine but my phones are Nokia (private & work) and a damn Blackberry. If I'd known, I would have just installed a normal car kit.

I am not sure if this fixes a problem, but I have the KXS, and most people complained that I was coming accross as very faint whilst in call for the first couple of days - then I did the following...

Turn the volume dial to max (From memory the indicator is "14") whilst you are IN A CALL (yes, the dial for the On / Off switch) - this does not affect the normal volume of the radio. Direct your speach towards the radio - the mic appears situated in the radio unit. I have a Samsung Blackjack, and I am using the car as a virtual office - no worries ever since (perhaps just lucky)

The dealer has not been overly useful, helpful but unable to resolve the issue. My service advisor told me that it can be phone specific and the unit does not like Nokias (which I can confirm, I've tried a 6110 Nav & 6230i & 6310i) nor does it like Blackberry or ZTE (Telstra) brands. all of these have worked when stationary but once moving, forget it. Sony Ericson seems to be a little better. Any update on the alleged fix?

<_< Well, as was expected the dealer couldn't find any fault. I actually spoke to someone at FujitsuTen who advised that there is no software upgrade / update and that from he point of view, my unit was faulty and should be replaced. I tried the volume adjustment as described above, it did help. Now the decision is to whether to continue to have a dust up with the dealer.

<_< Well as I thought, anything that involves too much difficulty they're not interested. What doesn't help is the Australian Design Rules (ADRs) which allow a 10% error margin. I may yet take it further. Pete

I found my odometer is very accurate... Thank ***. The trip meter is impressive down to the 0.1km, at least on mine, - I checked that on the offroad trip late last year.

Paul, for you information, the roadside advisory radars are very out of sync with calibration... they don't get regular testing (coz they are not legally required to do so you see).

One time, in particular, when a set of us (a few cars in a cruise) travelled at the same speed, one after the other, with cruise control.... during lunch time the last person said the display show variations up to a few kilometers per hour.

However, your obseration is still granted.... 79kmh in real term could be 71kmh.

Hi all, new to the forum. According to my Toyota Dealer, all Toyota speedos now fitted are showing over. 6kms at up to 60 and 8 over 70kph. My KX-R does exactly that and the answer when I complained was to 'drive a bit faster', not a good road safety message. Like all of you, I have no issue with a small error rate of 4kph. My beast is due for service tomorrow where I will again complain. Not overly hopefull of resolution. Pete
