  1. Yeah, i think for me whether or not is true is beside the point. He obviously has great creative writing skills and to capture the attention of so many people of so many different forums is just amazing!

Its a pretty good stunt if its not for real. Sounds like he writes the columns you read in those chix mags, where they are all raunchy hehe

I really wonder if he will finish it, this could all be part of it! haha no-one will ever know either!

  2. haha well, just post the dyno graph up when you get it !

How does it feel when the extra butterflies open up?? Mines running well atm, but i wish i had that extra 50+ hp that you have on tap!

    Whats the secret? lol

I want to go for a drive in it to see what difference it makes having that extra power ;) ;)

mmm damn ford lasers.... only good one is the TX3 turbo 4x4 one, but apparently they have weak g/boxes lol unlucky!

  3. haha a pink 5s, that wouldn't be so weird now i think about it haha

Don't worry about the dyno mate. If you find it, you find it. If not its all good!

I cannot BELIEVE they messed that up!! Why are they in the 'performance' business?!! I bet they mainly work on nissan engines or something...

  4. Thanks, and yup it's supercharged. :P Fun!

i have never experienced supercharger goodness (yet) but i cant wait!!

Thinking about a camry down the track... after im done with my celica :P

$755.42 should be the total of the parts, you have listed. If you have any further enquiries please contact me on my email.

Thanks heaps mate for the quotes. that was about the right price then!

Oh man you guys pay so much more for parts then we do here in the US.

For the rocker cover gaskets, I've been meaning to wrote a DIY for those. I know how to do it by heart at this point. Heck, had the SuperCharger off the car tonight in 25 minutes. The struts I have wrote a DIY up for them for the camry, if you want the links. Let me know. I did them on a '99 Camry 3 weeks back, and doing a '00 Camry Solara next week too.

The top engine mount is a quick 10 minute job, and the engine does not need any support. On my '96 Camry, I just need to make sure the car is at a slight downhill slant (front of car), and the engine tilts at the perfect angle thats it;s a quick bolt/unbolt for a new one.

i would love a copy/links of the DIY for what ever you have and want to share! I will no doubt be needing them in the future :)

sounds like you've 'been there, done that' a fair bit lol 25 mins, thats impressive!!

Geez.. I work in the motor industry and find those prices to cringe by. Im assuming they are genuine Toyota parts only not aftermarket suppliers like pedders etc for shocks?

and finally haha yeah, they are all genuine toyota parts.. thats the reasoning behind the higher price i guess!

thanks heaps guys for the response!

this seems to be a pretty active forum! lots of handy info and knowledgeable people!

  5. thanks guys! hes actually booked it in, ill tell him about the spark plugs and the springs too. they will prob chuck on a few hundred tho to install the springs (on top of the cost of the actual springs) just because they can....

nice looking camry you have there STYLSH!! supercharged is it?

removing the mani isnt too but, but you need tiny hands and loads of patience on the 3s... had to replace the gaskets both sides on the t-vis plate...

i wouldnt mind a camry, with the v6 engine in them they arent too shabby! good platform for a nice sleeper and very practical too!

i'd end up going down the forced induction path tho i'd say :P

my brothers thinking about the s/c option for sometime in the future!

  6. That price seems very reasonable...

Take a look at the engine and work out how 'easy' it's gunna be to replace the rear rocker cover gasket... Front one will take 10 mins, rear one will take you the rest of the day lol...

Also, if the top dog bone engine mount is cracked, then the front mount is also stuffed and will need replacing...

Shocks aren't all that hard to do, neither are the mounts, rocker covers are a pain in the ***** tho...

So was $840 just for the parts only or was that parts and labour???

840 is parts, then labour is something like 1200 :o :(

I think he just booked it in, rego's due and he hasnt got any time off work anyway so it had to be done.... which is a shame as its going to cost him a lot! plus he needs 2 new tyres!

he took it in to get an inspection and quotes at a toyota dealer and thats the only things they said he needed...

they didnt even mention the front mount!!

haha 10 mins for front, rest of the day for the rear.... sounds like fun.... almost as fun as removing a 3sge intake mani while the engines still in the car lol :P

    thanks for you help mate!

  7. Hello everyone! I actually own a st162 celica, but my brother owns a 98 Camry with the v6 (i dont know which engine it has, something like a 1mzfe or something along that line?) and he got some quotes for the following:

"$840AUS is for the top engine mount only, 4 shockies, and 2 rocker cover gaskets…"

We were just wondering if those prices are reasonable?

And also, how hard is it to change all those parts. I havent had any experience working on these camry's. However i am semi-mechanical minded :)

had plenty of experience working on my celica lol

we have access to a hoist and tools etc... for the mounts.

how hard is it to do the shocks and i cant see it being very hard changing the rocker cover seals (altho once again i havent had any experience on the camry's...)

Any help would be very much appreciated girls and guys!

    Cheers!

    Alex

  8. a small update on the celica. it was making 130.1 hp@front treads and thats pretty high for a gen1 3sge. actually it seems really high. i dont have much technical data to prove this is correct but i do have other proof. One of Brogans (xr pilot from forums) mates owns a SSS pulsar and it had a few minor mods done and it was putting out 108 hp@ the front treads on the same dyno my celica was on (which is the same dyno brogans old celica was on and hit 123fwhp)... which is about what its meant to be putting out (usually between 105 and 110 fwhp) and matches other readings for the same car on different dynos.

therefore i have no reason to believe its not a correct reading... i know its high for a gen1 3sge.

here's a list of things done during the rebuild of my engine:

    RebuildInvoice.jpg

It was put back on the dyno 2nite to see how it was running after the rebuild and tune it up, make sure it was running well and adjust the timing...

on the first run the timing was retarded majorly and it ran about 116 fwhp. so we upped the timing to what its meant to be at and it was hitting about 125ish. then we advanced a little more and this was the result:

    Fri16thMay2008.jpg

note: i know the dates wrong, it was on the rollers only 2nite....

the red line was the previous from my first time on the dyno a few months back and the blue line was 2nites best run... its not much different at all (less than 2hp) but i just thought i'd chuck it up and show everyone....

    MAX: 131.8 FWHP

  9. Next problem i had with her was recent. i moved down to newy and that was the first long trip that i'd taken the ZR on. i had only just serviced her and swapped all fluids etc... it ended up burning all its oil (in a 5 hr trip) and on the way home one of the big end bearing's grabbed.... so i ended up getting my dad to come pick me and the celica up and what should have been a 4 and a half hour trip turned out to be around about the 13 hour mark.... problem after problem lol

So i got the car back to Julius Performance and worked out my options...

I ended up getting the 1st gen 3SGE rebuilt and put back in... during the process it was found out that it had previously been over-heated and rebuilt, but in the process they had overbored it 1mm :P that explained my higher hp that usual on the dyno!!

one month passed and i got the all clear to pick her up! was having withdrawal's from driving it :P i ran it in for 1000km's and then gave it a service and that basically brings me up to how the ZR stands currently!

since then its had a few problems like the timing belt cover seal gettign caught and pulled into the timing belt causing it to skip a lot of teeth!! its happened twice now and had to pull the cover's off twice in about 2 weeks so its getting pretty annoying. there must be a cause to the problem so thats getting inspected now.

its been in the workshop for about 2 weeks now getting a few little things fixed up that went wrong during the rebuild like the a/c doesnt get cold, the timing belt cover seal issue, the rear of the oil pump is leaking quiet heavily and a few other little things like that...

heres a few pics from before it went into the workshop. shes pretty dirty! it had been raining and everywhere was muddy :P

    100_2994.jpg

    100_2997.jpg

    ill update as things progress!!

hopefully i'll have her back from the workshop and she will be problem free :D

looking forward to driving it again...

my first celica's sitting at my parents place, registered but not being put to much use. dad takes her for a spin every now and again so it doesnt rott away lol

my little bro will be getting it when he gets his license so im sure he'll be on the forums at some point!

    Cheers for reading!

  10. these are the things i got knocked back on:

"exhaust leak (bolt not tight somewhere - only when cold, when it warms up the metal expands and stops the leak?) ,under body needs degreasing (cause thats HEAPS important and all.....), steerling coupling loose on the rack (a bit of play when you turn the wheel - he saw the bolts that needed tightening but didnt do it for me), one number plate is light out (new bulb needed), wiper blades worn, AND handbrake needs adjusting...."

so all in all, it was nothing major! anyway got right to it and fixed up everything that needed fixing and she passed with flying colours!! Then i got it rego'd and sorted out insurance...

it was such a good feeling taking it for her first (legally registered) drive! felt great, although since i got her felt as tho it lacked it power compared to my 1st one, even though it had less k's and had extractors and bottom end rebuild and a few other things that should have made it a bit faster/more responsive!

First few problems with the car came along. i had to replace the intake mani gaskets, and also had to replace the injectors as one of them had its pintle snapped clean off!! no wonder it was running like a dog!

Next mod that took place was replacing the S53 box with a S54. the old one was feeling a bit tired and popped out of second on deceleration/coming off throttle. also hated going into second gear! I dont know if the box came out of a celica or camry or what but it is in now and feels a million times better! takes alot more and doesnt crunch, pop outta gears, and has slightly better ratios... Brogan (XR Pilot) basically did the swap for me, and i helped inbetween running to the toilet to spew/snap.... the effects of food poisoning.... just like to thank him again for all his help and hard work!!. we started at about 9am and it took about 14 hours all up i think.... was a bitch to change!

also bought and installed a TWM short shifter which made it feel a lot better too! highly recommended!!

So then i had her on the dyno to see what she was putting out at the wheels. the car was feeling a whole lot better by now compared to the day that i got her! heres some pics and a short vid (sorry about the mobile quality) of the ZR on the dyno:

    DSC00002-1.jpg

    th_MOV00001.jpg

short vid i got on my mobile

    Dyno11FIXEDDATE.jpg

    The results!!

1st run had a top of 125FWHP without changing anything

on the final run she hit 130.1FWHP so i was pretty happy about that ! the torque was improved a bit as well !!

  11. The following pics are the day after i got my second one (named ZR from now on to save confusion). I had the ZR transported to my house from melb on the back of a car carrier truck. it wasnt registered in NSW and would be sold unregistered and i didnt know what condition it was in personally as i bought her off ebay, therefore i didnt want to risk the 15 odd hour drive back home :P

Ok here we go, i own two Toyota Celica ST162's, both 1986 models. one was given to me (and got me hooked :P ) approx 1.5 yr's ago, maybe a bit longer, and my second one which is my daily was purchased from melbourne a bit less then a yr ago. ill start from the start and go through with pics and a little explaination to how they are standing currently!

    Dyno stats: 188hp @6000 rpm 0-100 7.7 secs .....no turbo....yet!

woah thats some wild figures for a 1st gen!

i thought mine was powerful coming in at 131 front wheel hp .... hahaha

very nice work mate!! got the dyno graph?
