Very good reason to thoroughly diagnose a problem for the underlying cause instead of just throwing parts and lots of $$$.
Time to get out a good magnifying glass to look for possible cracks in the coil pack, as suggested and/or do a diagnostic test.
In other vehicles, when there has been a coil pack issue, a Check Engine Light has appeared. A good idea to also do an OBD II scan looking for an stored error codes.
Something else to look for is vacuum leaks so check the hoses and their connections.
Thanks for the advice. Car, in km, is at 280k so the coils might be weak by now I think.

Not a problem. I have seen coil packs get cracks in them, hopefully it's something as simple as that which solves your issue.
I hope that solves the issue. Parts here are really expensive though.

Have you checked any fuel related items like the fuel pump, fuel filter, injectors etc?
Are there any modifications done to the car also? If you've done any, did you notice the issue after they were added?
I haven't modded the car. I haven't checked the fueling components. Next step is to change the coil packs. Thanks for the response.

Greetings from Barbados.
1. My 2002 2zz Jdm Allex is moving off, bogging a bit, then accelerating smoothly to redline.
2. The idle is steady but the exhaust sounds like the engine has stage 2 cams.
3. The car experiences random backfires when cruising at low speeds.
4. It's struggling to keep up with cars it used to demolish (20v 4age's)
I've changed the maf, plugs, filter, and cleaned the throttle body. The car still feels the same.
Any suggestions?
Thanks guys.

Hi guys I hope all is well. I have been searching the net but to no avail trying to find a smoked fuel door for a 2002 JDM Allex/Sportivo. Does anyone know wher I can order one?
Thanks.
Kev.

Its not very loud at all. No raspiness throughout the rev range. Video soon.

Removed my hook and got my exhaust installed on the right. Pics soon.

Yup, the tow hook is welded on and our JDM models have a space saver doughnut that cant even fit over the stock front brakes. A flat up front means you always have to put a rear wheel up front and the little spare at the back. Quite a pain.
-
Yes I'm keeping the stock cat as it is good enough already.
I have done many search's in regards to exhausts but no where could I find a answer to my question about the axle back section of the exhaust.
It makes sence I could not find the answer I was looking for, I did not realise your stock sportivos exited on the right hand side.
Here in NZ all our 2zz are Japan imports. And the exhaust comes over the axel on the right hand side makes a 90 degree turn into the rear muffler and then another 90 degree turn out the rear of the car on the left hand side.
Does anyone have a rear muffler they can recommend that is a perfect fit for exiting on the right hand side?
I live in Barbados and we too have JDM imports. I have bought an oval exhaust which I would prefer to install on the right. The main obstruction is the tow hook. It seems it will have to be cut off for a muffler to fit there properly. Apart from that you can install a cannon style muffler at a ridiculous angle out to the right or run some car-width piping over to the left and install your after market exhaust/muffler. Let me know how it goes if you do an install. I cant find pics of the JDM model exhaust installs anywhere.

Many thanks for the replies guys. Great forum. I think I'm leaning towards the Exedy.

What about the eclutchmasters stage 1? Are they any good? Monkeywrenchracing
On the other hand monkeywrenchracing has a similarly priced exedy stage 0 stock clutch. Which one should I go with?

Hey guys 2zz Clutch is finally slipping especially in 6th gear. What's a good clutch to buy and where's the best place to order one from?
-
Post the ebay link so others can see what we are dealing with and advise you.

Don't do it. Save your money and avoid disappointment.

They look great inside the housing but are about as useful as two candles on your bonnet.

That is NOT going to work. Even the MAF sensor is unsuitable both in terms of type and position. Universal junk.

Hey guys, my car is a 2002 2zz Allex with the h4 headlights. I bought a low beam HID kit and bench tested it and it works. I installed it in the car plug and play and it refuses to come on. Does any body know the headlamp wiring codes/colors? Maybe the plug and play setup on the kit does not match the Toyota headlight harness pinout. I can identify the ground and +ve inputs on the HID kit but the Toyota headlight connector has 3 wires:red/black, red/yellow and red/blue.
Thanks.

Thanks alot for taking the time to respond in the way you did.
My car is a 2002 2zz Toyota Allex (JDM model).
I posed the question here because I read that many of the regular scanners
don't work with JDM vehicles.
I read your response and am thinking about just getting an OBDII to USB cable
and some software.
Can you recommend a proper cable?

Hey forum. I was doing some research regarding OBD scantools and was wondering if anybody knows which scantool/reader will work on the JDM 2zz Allex. Any info is appreciated.

Hey forum I hope all is well.Greetings from Barbados. My car is a 2002 2zz Corolla Allex. I am trying to decide on which brand exhaust barrel to get. I want one that is going to be quiet. I plan to just replace the existing end with maybe a Magnaflow since it seems that these are quite quiet and of good quality build. Any suggestions or advice?
Also, is the ebay 2zz charger kit any good?
-
99% sure
rear is 4.25"
fronts are 6.5"
Thanks for the info. Drive safely.

What size are the Allex/Sportivo door speakers? Thanks.

Heard a loud knocking after lift. Mechanic dropped oil pan to see worn rod bearings. I purchased some from a parts store but they're not as wide as the ones that came out. Everything matches except the width. Can they still work?
