Hey all,
I bought a TRD CAI intake from ebay the other week, and finally installed it, but now just have a couple of questions I dont feel have been answered in other threads.
1. It could just be me, but I almost feel as if the car doesn't pick up as much. Second gear, screaming all the way up to lift used to feel awesome, although now it's louder it feels a bit like it's taking a bit longer to get up there.. Has anyone had this before?
2. When I turn the car off, the CAI sounds like it takes one last gasp for air, but it makes a weird sound when it does this (Like a hiss). Does anyone know what this is? Normal?
I followed the instructions on here and on the Installtion papers that the CAI came with..
Thanks.
With the CAI you should now be making more bottom end power so the transition into lift will not be as abrupt or pronounced. The power band will be smoother, sorta like i-vtec.
The hiss is normal when the engine stops sucking in air for an aftermarket intake such as yours.

I still have the stock exhaust. Where I live we don't have any law against removing your cat or for most mods to your car. Thanks for the replies.

I was thinking about removing my cat and replacing it with a resonator to keep the noise level down. What performance gains can I expect? Thanks.

Hi guys. Does anyone here have a jdm sportivo? The one with the exhaust that exits on the left with the tow hook on the right. I would like to know how easy it is to remove the tow hook because it is an obstruction if you want to install an aftermarket exhaust system such as ces catback or even a cannon. I have seen quite a few jobs with the piping run to the left and it did not look good. In Barbados we get the JDM version of the sportivo which are branded as either RunX or Allex.

Aftermarket performance headers for $155? I'm not so sure about if these are going to stand up or perform. Better go with what's been tried and proven. Don't be a guinea pig.

Just wondering why I haven't come across clips of different exhausts on Sportivos on this site or anywhere else for that matter. I would really like to hear what some of the various exhaust systems sound like. Youtube only has a bunch of Celica Gts clips and short ones at that.

Anybody know why Toyota didn't make the 2zz engine a 2.0 litre? That would be sure to compete with the DC5r. Also, it would surely improve low down torque where the current engine lacks. The Stivo should probably have come out with a 3sge with lift . Anyway, as it is, its good bang for buck and a good car to drive for those who don't want to jump on the Honda bandwagon. ;)

That XForce looks sweet. I love cannons. In the case of this system where a butterfly valve instantly changes backpressure wont this cause trouble with the ecu?
-
How about 3 in a row for about 9psi boost? It'll cost you less than $100 on ebay.
-
Can someone please explain to me the argument that adding a straight through cannon to the stock piping will make the Sportivo slower. A straight through muffler is supposed to reduce back pressure and improve exhaust flow thus improving performance right? I don't see how a company such as CES can have a cat back with piping 1/4'' bigger than standard with a straight through muffler and claim 5 - 9 kw atw while replacing the standard muffler with, say an Apexi n1(just an example) will frump up things and cause a performance decrease. People talk alot without dyno documentation. I would like to see a dyno comparison between Sportivo specific cat back system, and a simple muffler replacement.

If you own a Sportivo and drive around 60km/h all the time then you should be driving an automatic Chevy Spark. That way your car can max out at the speed limit.
-
Everyday I do 8000rpm in 6th to make sure I'm never late for anything.
-
I just removed the snorkel etc. from mine and left it and the sound is great. The car revs easier now. I did not reset the ecu and had no problems. The ecu learns the new airflow on its own gradually anyway. Resetting just speeds up the process.
-
Most simple to do is remove the stock ones and take them to the store and let a salesperson tell you. However, I do believe the front speakers are 4'' while the rears are 5.25''. While you are at it you pick a Sony-Toyota wiring harness to ease the installation of the deck. I would have gotten a Pioneer though.

Check out the link. Too many pics to post.

Which ones do you like?

Seasons gretings.
Does anybody know which N1 styled exhaust has the quietest note. I heard that Apexi bullet barrels are very loud. I have had a magnaflow resonator added to a system before and it worked great. It got rid of all the buzzing and smoothed out the note. Magnaflow is one the cheaper brands but I have come across many positive reviews.
So what do you guys know about the various barrels and and their exhaust volume/tone etc.
Thanks.

You should time the car from like 40 to 100 to eliminate the wheel spin error, then keep track of these times and see if the car is really getting slower. Does the car feel slower though or are you just judging from your watch?

Hi All,
I recently had my clutch replaced about 6 weeks ago (2 days out of warranty, nothing wrong structurally, apparently just a heavy clutch foot :-/), as well as having the front brake pads replaced (and rotors machined) and a service. About two weeks after the brakes were replaced, the front right wheel started developing a squeak - think like a squeaky cog on something or a squeaky mousewheel. The noise stops as soon as I start braking, and sometimes its non existant - actually its become more dampened, but still apparent.
Then the other week, I smelt burning brakes, and the front left wheel made a grinding sound, this lasted for all of two minutes. I inspected the pads and rotors and they both appear to be set in and have enough pad on them, so I'm totally stumped to what it is.
Anyone got any ideas? If I can't solve it, I'll have to take it back to where I had it serviced and take them for a drive, but being the pseudo-mechanic that I am, I'd rather see if I can pinpoint the problem first.
Have your brake pressure checked. Does the pedal feel as solid as before?

Season's greetings pplz. I hope everyone is well. I am considering replacing my stock Sportivo (Allex here) exhaust with an aftermarket one. However, I have ran against other 2zz's with sports exhausts and they were no faster. In fact, mine seemed seemed slightly faster and some of them had management.
Guys have been telling me not to do anything with the car as it is performing very well as it is. I believe that a free flowing exhaust would improve my performance somewhat but I have been mostly told to just leave it as it is.
What do you guys think?

LAWL, did you wanna stick a pod filter onto the intake where the box attaches?
thats bad ****, let us know how it goes :P
Can't that work?
-
it's just an overpriced 3" cannon
Overpriced = yes. However isn't Blitz renown for high quality and very functionally effective products? I realize tho that most of the members of this forum dislike cannon mufflers but I like them. to each his own I guess. Thanks for your response anyway.

Try a Magnaflow or Tanabe Hyper Medallion. You can also check Youtube for some sound clips of varoius mufflers on the Celica GTS and Matrix XRS which have the same engine.
