New Kluger - Something not so happy

I took Nov 07 built Kluger KX-R AWD Last December.

Just after have the car for a week, one day I noticed a screw lying on the floor just next to the foot reset on the driver side. I contacted my dealer immediately and agreed to have it checked up during the routine 1000km service.

Another morning just prior the scheduled 1000km service, I heard a noise coming from some where behind the radio unit, sounds like a screw or nut just falling off. After that whenever I accelerate of decelerate, I can hear something is rolling inside.

Of course, I mentioned this to my dealer as well the screw I found in the first week. In addition, I told them the panel that next to the stability control button is very loose, it is almost pop-out. Later that day, I took back the car and the dealer told me that they refitted the missing screw behind the panel(I assume it is the one I found on the floor and it is the reason why the panel is so loose). The dealer also told me they checked the radio unit and refitted another missing screw according to my report.

However, after I took my car back, I still hear the rolling noise sometimes. So I decided to find out what is that indeed. Here is what I found after I stripe off the interior

1. I found a screw lying on the floor just underneath the gear shift assembly. This is the source of the rolling noise I heard from time to time. The screw is longer than the one I found on the floor during the first week and also longer than the one missing behind the loose panel.

2. I checked all the screw used on or around the radio unit, none of them is the type of the screw I found underneath the gear shift assembly. So it is obvious from somewhere else.

3. The fix that is done to the panel is doggy. The dealer put some foam tape into the screw hole and push the screw back in to make sure it won't come loose again. The result is that it broke the plastic screw hole. Although it can not be seen from outside, but I am sure it will became loose again in a few years time.

I was shocked that such basic quality issues happened to a new vehicle. I owned two Toyota previously and always been told that Toyota is famous of its quality and reliability. Although they are not major issues and only affect interior, two screws come loose is too much.

I will go back to the dealer and ask them to repair the panel properly under warranty. However, I have to say apart from these issues, the car is doing well so far. The drive train is smooth, quite and powerful.

I post my story because I think any potential buyer/consumer is entitle to know some information prior to make decision.

Looks there was some work done to the part of dash (radio swap or ???) by dodgy technician.

Take it back, they must replace clip with new.

I have 10-15 new Kluger going trough my workshop weekly and really never had loose screws found, and i know for fact how good they are put together from factory.

I was never big Toyota fan,but years working for Holden made me realise how good Toyota is build.

I agree.

When I collected my Kluger from the second hand portion of the dealership there were some issues with the rear passenger tail light and cargo blind was missing... subsequent arguments with the salesman and visit to the dealership got the parts replaced but they're obviously second hand and methnks taken from other cars on the lot, just shifting the problem ....

I'm sort of glad I had the tail light and cargo blind rather than your radio/gear shift problem as my two parts required far less removal and re-attaching of parts and therefore less screws involved.
