Sat Nav lockout

Hey All,

new Kluger Grande owner here, been lurking for a month or so, just picked up a demo late 07 Grande last week. First Toyota I've ever owned, have come from a string of five Subaru's. Well, it's my wife's really but she generously let's me drive it on occasion, I still get to keep a Scooby :).

I've kept a close eye on threads about defeating the AVN system lockout both on threads here and Toyota Nation forums on the US sites. I would have to say this lockout setup is absolutely disgraceful. It is now more of a distraction to make a phonecall for instance, and I frequently travel with passengers who would operate the nav system.

Anyway, enough ranting about what we know, and onto things that might fix it....

I've tried manipulating the LOADING.KWI files by using the 5.1 firmware version from the US nav discs, but with no luck. The satnav system refuses to recognise the disc if the US LOADING.KWI file is on there, must be something in the base build of the satnav system that searches for certain markers in the file specific to Australian Whereis map discs. Examing the HEX dumps of the LOADING.KWI file shows that the Australian files have a different construct, although I've identified where the version markers are, so I am looking to modify the US LOADING.KWI file and put the Australian version markers in there, in an attempt to get the satnav to recognise and load the 5.1 LOADING.KWI file. So that's a potential software solution - to the nav problem at least.

As for the hardware solution - well it appears the Subaru satnav is also the Denso system, and it appears to be the same as the Kluger system. There's a few posts in the ozliberty forums about swapping latest V14 whereis map discs between Subaru, Toyota and Lexus with success in all cars. Now there are also some posts there about people who have defeated the lockout on the Liberty setup, including wiring diagrams that they've obtained from Subaru. I'm yet to pull the dash and have a look behind the Toyota setup, but I'm wondering if anyone has and is able to compare the Subaru and Toyota setups and advise whether or not the Subaru fix might also work for the Toyota's. The posts indicate that it's not just the green wire that needs to be cut/manipulated, but also a black wire.

Threads on that bit are here:

http://www.ozliberty.com/forums/showthread.php?t=10219

They also reference a US site, however that talks about a Kenwood system, so maybe that's the older Subaru system:

http://www.legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php?t=63678

There's also these threads on the US Toyota Nation site to keep an eye on:

Successful Navigation Menu unlock while driving!!

http://www.toyotanation.com/forum/showthread.php?t=249794

GPS/DVD Display while driving workaround

http://www.toyotanation.com/forum/showthread.php?t=236334

Maybe we can keep this thread as a repository for all things to do with overriding the lockout

Regards,

Dwayne

Nice post Dwayne... I guess we just have to wait and see. Me no IT expert especially and would not have a clue what is involved. Hopefully is not hardware related as I think it would be a harder cure

Continuing the thread where I'm talking to myself lots... :P

Here's the link on how to build one of the speed pulse generator units to fool the SatNav, and instructions for install into a Toyota Tundra (don't think there's an equivalent in Australia)

:clap::yahoo::clap:

I'm going to build one of these over the coming weeks and give it a go.....

Hi,

The URL is dead. Can anyone please give me information on how to make this speed generator ?

Thanks a lot
