Does anyone know how to go about respraying the car door frame that borders the window (the black part), the type of paint, steps etc.

the black part is some sort of vinyl adhesive so you will have to remove that before painting.

the pros use 2pac paint but for diy acrylic lacquer is most compatible i think... wait for the experienced members to reply or search on diy painting. i recommend getting a pro to do it to avoid disappointment.
