Actually, most fuels have additives. They put in octane boosters, detergents, heaps of other stuff! Some additives are cheaper, others more expensive. And some burn better, while others tend to gum up if left to dry on a surface. In the end, it's a balancing act between price, performance and cleaning ability. As with most cars (where cleaning is replaced with reliability), you can only have 2 of the above. So same with petrol.
