Hi,

I would like to know how many of the Australian consumers have had transmission problems with their RAV4 manufactured 2001/02/03.

The problem might start with a light on the dashboard and codes/or none to change solenoids. You might experience problems with your gearbox shifting erratically and if your mechanic changed the onboard computer-ECU/ECM, or worse, the gearbox, then you are one of many customers with the same problem. Toyota has just acknowledged this in the States and is reimbursing all customers.See link

Consumer power has won in the USA-you can do the same.

i donated $1850 to the Liverpool transmission and the fault remained so i then traded the car to Toyota (where i had bought it from) ..

Thats the reason why i have never again bought a car other than a Corolla .. The Rav was the odd one out i bought and the last i will ever buy //

I am surprised that there appears to be little discussion in the forum about this global problem. I have just purchased a 2003 auto and the problems have just commenced. There must be more than just some isolated examples of this issue. What approach to solving the problem have people taken.

Hi guys, sorry to hear about your transmission problems. All I can say is if it starts to play up I reccommend taking it to toyota or a transmission builder right away. The longer you leave the problem the worse it'll get and the more expensive it'll be.

I'm offering my services to replace the ecu/ecm and burnt out parts. I work at the only Toyota dealership in NSW that repairs and rebuilds transmission and I'm one of the few that overhauls and do the repairs.

For a partial overhaul + ecu it'll cost you $1500.

For a full overhaul + ecu it'll cost $2600.

Both prices includes labour, parts and key reprogramming.

Down time for partial over haul is over night.

Down time for full overhaul is 3 days.

You can contact me on 0424 169 699 or kauvchap@hotmail.com if you have any questions regarding your toyota vehicles.

Thanks
