toyota camry timing belt inspect?

Hey guys,

I was wondering how do i inspect the drive belt / timing belt ( are they the same thing), the mechanics said its gonna cost around $350 to check it or something.

because my camry 2001 v6, its approaching 180k kms, plus going on a road trip to brisbane from melb , don't want it to stuff up on me.

There should be a sticker on the side of the black housing that says when it was last changed. The V6 has to be changed every 150x kms so if it hasnt been changed before its well overdue.

i unscrewed the top black cover and just peaked inside, i noticed a bit of cracking, but no fraying. is that alright? or get changed immediately

You should get it changed immediately! If the belt breaks you are in serious trouble! not to mention the cost of a broken engine!

yup, im planning to get it replaced next week.

It was always on the back of my mind whilst driving up Gold Coast and back. Car made it back alive :D plus a hefty speeding fine (not me!)
