Rattle, possible A Pillar location behind Airbag

Hi Guys,

Not sure if anyone has experience this on a 2011 Kluger KX-S before but Im fed up hearing this what can be described as a metal rattling noise I believe is coming from the A Pillar Airbag Trim or top somewhere in behind the top left of Dash Panel.

Not there all the time, Im hearing it when going over rough roads or hitting certain joins in the road. We have had the glovebox out and associated trims thinking it could be there but no luck, top L/H speaker vent has been taken out including speaker and again road tested but no luck. We have attempted to remove A Pillar Airbag Trim but are unsure of how to remove it without doing damage or setting off the Airbag. Both me and our our technicians at work have road tested several times with a majority of all trims out but are still hearing this painstacking noise. Pulling my hair out as it frustates me. Otherwise good car when its behaving it self.

If anyone has experienced this or knows how to take off A Pillar trim, let us know, its my next step in problem solving before I contact my dealer and take the vehicle to them.

Regards

Dave79

Is it possible that the noise is coming from the engine bay but you are hearing it better though one of the holes in the fire wall?

Hi dave, mine does the same thing, mine rattles in under the dash it only does it when its cold, im not sure whats causing it, there have been other forum members with the same problem and havent had any luck fixing the problem, im in the same boat as you mate, I would like to get the rattle fixed as it is driving me nuts to, but I dont know if my local toyota dealer would be able to fix it.

I love my kluger but the only gripes I have with it is the rattle in the dash and the rattle under the back seat.

Hopfully mate somone on this forum may have had there rattly dash fixed and know what was causing it.

Hey Croco

My car is doing it regardless if its Hot or Cold, guaranteed to do it on the same road which is a postive thing. Im going to drop it off at my local dealer this week and say to the Service manager, its yours until you fx it.

Ill let you know how I go but Im not hoping my breath.

Can you take the airbag out and see what's behind it? I know that they are pretty simple to get out on the Hilux's. Then you might be able to see what it might be?

Yeah No worries Dave, Ill let you know how I get on if the Dealer are prepared to put blood sweat and tears into solving it for me, bloody good car when it behaves.

Brendan, I was thinking it may be an airbag noise but unclear, will certainly mentio it to the dealer for them to consider.

I will take them on the same road prone for it to play up when test drving, then if their smart, they will keep using that same road when their carrying out repairs.

FINGERS CROSSED!!!

Ill let you guys know

This must be a common problem!

I just bought my first Toyota a month ago. It's a 2010 (MY11) Kluger KX-S AWD and it produces a rattle when driving over corrugations in the road. Under the top of the dashborad, left hand side, very corner. It could even be described as a clunk. I haven't tried investigating as I'm hoping that the dealer could have a look as the car is under warranty. It would definitely be interesting to find out what's going on.

Hi People,

I think I found the problem. I finally found some time to investigate the rattle. I think it's coming from the left bonnet hinge.

I have proven this by jamming a sponge under the bonnet near the left hinge and then closing the bonnet. I drove the car afterwards over various surfaces and the problem did NOT reoccur once! The screws that hold the hinge to the bonnet

are tight, but the pivoting part is loose, it seems.

At my next service in January, I'll ask Toyota to fix it. Do you guys think this hinge rattle is covered by warranty?

Thanks

Milo

Milo I should think the hinge rattle would be covered under warranty, I look at my bonnet hinge, but I think mine is the dash clips , mine only rattles when its cold, a recent trip to newcastle the otherday when the days were pretty warm and not the slightest rattle, anyway I check out the bonnet hinges and try the the sponge near the hinges, you never know, I might be lucky.
