First we would need to know where you are, In the USA new cars still come out without immobiliseres, so depending on where you are and what reigin your car is made for would depend on if it has a transponder or not. From your second post I would say that it is fittid with a transponder, What key do you have, the remote key or the rubber head key?

Hold the broken key next to your new key and try start the car.

Most likely there will be the transponder chip in your old key, if this is your only key and you haven't done it before I do not recommend cutting it out yourself, iif you damage the chip it gets expensive.

No it doesn't as the chip is in the head of the key.

If you take your key to a locksmith they will be able to remove the chip from the broken key and make a new key for you, and do a spare incase you dont' have one.
