  1. You dropped a 'P' plate....

Love the plates. What size wheels are they?

Its a 35% tint - wanted to go darker but the missus was a bit iffy on it. So compromised to stay on the legal side of things (Aurion replaced a commodore that is a defect waiting to happen)

Rims are 18", they're the only ones that looked right on the car (IMHO)

  2. What I have here is a 2007 Sportivo SX6. Its mostly stock but I've recently been able to splash some cash around on it (Sold my beloved 4by)

So far, I've added rims, custom plates, a tint and given it a good buff.

I was surprised to see just how rich the red was once it was given a good thorough cleaning (as opposed to my pathetic hand washes!)

  4. There was a white sportivo being dismantled in a sydney wreckers. Spoke to the guy a few months back when i was originally chasing fog lights. Alot of the panels was gone but the interior was still there, he would have the cup holders for sure. I been trying to find him again, to nab the inside tacho, but ive lost the n.o. I found him in the trading post originally.

So there is a wreckers in sydney with a aurion, the problem is trying to find it. Bit hard if he isnt advertising anymore, like a needle in a hay sack. Maybey try that australian wreckers on line, where they search though aussie wreckers for the part your looking for.

If you find him let us know.

    Good luck.

Just remembered partslocator.com.au as a site I've used successfully in the past to find hard-to-get parts for my 4by and found this guy claims to have atleast one Aurion:

    Company: GMS Spares Pty Ltd

    Address: 26 Mavis St

    City: Revesby

    State: New South Wales

    Postcode: 2212

    Phone: 02 9774 5184

    Fax: 02 9774 5716

I'll try call tomorrow, if not tuesday.

Thanks bud, will definitely look a bit harder now that I know there are /some/ out there.

  6. I rang around a few wreckers today and unfortunately none of them have a write off - Which makes sense, a car as new and valuable as the Aurion will more likely be repaired than written off.

I'm going to go down to the rubber store tomorrow and see what I can make up.

  7. Thanks guys - very much appreciated.

I have to admit through all my pondering and elaborate ideas I never once thought of using foam or rubber to simplify the task! Thats definitely a route I'll look into (as its easier than a spring). I'll have to make a trip to a place like Clarke Rubber for sure.

PS. Absolutely no way I'm letting this ruin my precious Aurion (The wife thinks I obsess over the car too much, fancy that!) it's just one of those minor imperfections that stand out like a sore thumb to me that nobody else really cares about!

Why don't you try some wreckers?

If you are lucky enough, you can purchase it about $10~$20 from wreckers.

    They should have some..

You're probably right, the trick is finding a wrecker that has an Aurion.

  8. In any mapping solution (google maps, tomtom GPS, navman, garmin, route66) you'll find that street numbers are only approximate. Which means they take a bit of an educated guess sometimes where street numbers are, majority of the time they get these reasonably correct, sometimes however, not at all. Unfortunately for you, this is one of those sometimes.

My advice is to not trust these things entirely and actually pay attention to whats going on around you and what is around you rather than trusting these things to put you on the spot.

I personally rely on the good old fashion street directory even though I work with GPS mapping for a living, it's plain and simple and you only have yourself to blame if you get lost.

The only guarentee you'll get is that the street is where they say it is. :)

I'll also take the opportunity to make an impassioned plea to you all: PLEASE PLEASE don't play with these things while you're driving, they'll get you where you're going but its up to you to make sure you get there in one piece. Drive safe guys.

  9. Thanks guys - very much appreciated.

  10. Sorry guys, this one should not be bugging me but...

I bought my Aurion second hand and didn't realise until well and truly after the purchase (I was stoked at the car) that the divider in the cup holder was missing... It's really annoying since it means it no longer holds cups properly.

I called Toyota parts and asked for a quote and got a staggering figure of $147 to replace the entire cup holder.

Are these a fixed piece of plastic that could possibly be molded off or do they have a spring mechinism? Keen to get an idea to either fabricate my own or come up with another idea for replacing it, because $147 for a bit of plastic is mind blowing, especially one that small.

  11. Yes, at $600 i said that i would get back to him. But this is also painted. most of the ones i have seen on here are just the raw gray ABS plastic colour.

Anyway... i dont mean to be a pain in the *****... I know $600 is wayyyy to much. Everyone else on here is saying "oh i got mine for $100 + freight... Thats all well and good to say that. But i would be eternally greatful if someone could at least help me out here with an e-mail address, contact number or a website where i can source myself one of these.

Happy to set up a bulk deal if anyone else is interested in getting some. It's just the source for these $150 landed in Aus ones i cant seem to track down.

ill send you a pm with all the details

Could someone hook me up with some info on where to get please?

Also does anyone know if they do anything similar for the 'rolla? Got a mate here at work who is interested in something for his.

  12. hey guys .. this is my first post and first look at this site .. my name is Brady

I have just aquired a 93 model RV 80 series with all the good basic bits like snorkel, alloy bar, steps, Old man emu susp lift, 33" cooper stt's .. Also as i work at North West Offroad in Tassie i'll soon get more bits for it.

Few questions ive got.. i knocked it off at a good price as its got a few kms .. actually 320,000 to be exact.

its this amount of kms ok for the 4.5 petrol motor?

also the oil light comes on when warm but still has oil pressure on the guage.. wats going on there? is it a dodgy sensor?

anyways it would be good to know if theres any tassie members about and let me know what goes on in the local scene.

    cheers guys

    brady

The 80 series 4.5 litre petrol engine is good for atleast 500,000km if looked after.

Silly question, but does it have enough oil in it? maybe do a oil/filter change just incase - never hurts on a used car.

  13. haha like speed limited by headlight protector, bonnet protector, weather shield, protruding wheels, external ultra-high gain GPS antenna...

I was more referring to the airflow to the engine (in the particular case of revs dropping off at 215kph), but yeah, that works.

  14. Interesting. I've got a 2007 SX6 and it wouldn't go past 215km/h or so. The revs drop off after this and i loose speed. Don't remember the exact speed i was doing when the limiter cut in but when i looked back at the dash my speed had dropped back past 210km/h. Sounds like i should take it back to the dealer if you guys are saying 230km/h plus.

Got this off the carsales.com.au website for the SX6:

    Acceleration - 0-100km/h (secs) 7.4

    Maximum speed (km/h) 228

Can't find where i saw the 215 limit or if i was told by the dealer. Can't find it in the owners manual either...

I don't know a lot about the set up of the Aurions (Only owned one for the last few days) but in my experience something like this would probably be caused more by an airflow issue than a limiter.

  15. hey all,

it would be greatly appreciated if someone out there could answer some of my questions on the 80 series landcruiser

    1) what is the wattage out-put of the head unit of the car

    2) an easy to follow step by step guide to remove the head unit

    3) is the boot speaker 6inch, is that set up in a way that it only plays bass noises(like a subwoofer would) or is it just my car

    4) kilowatts and torque of the old beast

    5) why would 2nd gear be always hard to get into in the mornings when i first start it up up yet 3rd gear is really easy, almost loose

any help would be greatly appreciated

    kirby

Removing the headunit in the 80 series is fairly straight forward, however it does mean the removal of the entire dash surround from drivers door to glove compartment (the glove compartment does not need to be removed, nor does the drivers door)

The good news is this is only 6 screws and the rest just clips together, you may have to play around with the steering wheel tilt in order to actually get the facia off from above the wheel.

I have to head to work right now, but if you need any more assistance please let me know

  16. Okay... First post... probably not the best first post but anyway.

I just bought a 2007 Aurion Sportivo SX6 yesterday, fantastic drive... Took it for a test drive, got carried away and came back an hour later to sign the forms.

Anyway, I am also a P plater, I'm 26 years old and never really had the urge to get my license before I met my now wife and got into four wheel driving (In a landcruiser none the less) I bought my own 4runner just before I got my P's which was suitable for a while, but I needed a bit more off road capability, so I bought a Nissan Patrol (sorry guys) and wanted to sell the 4runner... A decent offer came along where a bloke wanted to trade a nicely modded (mostly visual, not power) VS Commodore for the 4runner and needing a daily drive I took it up.

Now I've been driving around in this Commodore for a year now, sadly, as per normal with the holden build quality the suspension is starting to give out on me and the gearbox finds more neutral than gear so I thought it was time to upgrade. Having looked around at cars in my price range it came down to a choice between two cars... A brand new Lancer VR-X or a near new Aurion SX6, having driven them both, I made the decision on the Aurion.

Now, sorry about the long winded lead up to my point, but I thought some background would make things a bit better. In response to a couple of points:

1> P plater affording an Aurion, without going into specific details of my income, I can assure you all that this vehicle is definitely something an older P plater can afford and before you call me a special case, its a lot more common these days for people to get their license a bit later in life than in the past. Several of my mates have waited and personally I'm thankful I did, not only have I not even come close to causing an accident (I've been rear ended at lights after having sat there for 2 minutes... by a P plater sadly) but I have no driving offenses and less urge to 'hoon' than the average P plater would. I still have a bit of fun from time to time, but destroying an $800 set of tyres doesn't really have all that much appeal. :)

2> The Aurion is a really really nice drive. :)

3> I think like any body any where there are bad examples of people who have P plates. These days with the tougher licensing laws you see a lot more of us on the road. My father only took a few days to get his license, it now takes us (atleast in NSW) 4 years from go to wo (1 year Ls, 1 year reds, 2 years greens) - Expect to see a lot more P platers on the road and yes, like fully licensed drivers, some of them should not be on the road, but thats no reason to want to see them dead (Sad fact of the matter is, they are more likely to kill someone else than themselves)

I'm sure there are a lot of other points that can be touched on, but none the less, I think that there is a lot of generalization taking place in this thread. Not all P platers are bad, nor are they 17-18 year olds with hotted up commodores that go everywhere at 150kph.

    Anyway... Hi guys! :)
